judging by your avatar i believe you've long since discovered that.

and yes, go USA. we'll be out before the quarterfinals :)

Ah... I shouldn't have been reading the forum. I was going to watch the espn2 replay.... well, I'll still watch. Should be fun even without the suspense.

sorry if i ruined the game for you Chesapeake Silt. oh and i think we are goin past the quarter final's this time and hopefully make it to the final's.... God bless USA and nowhere else (J/k). only if my relatives were still here, they would never hear the end of this. too bad they left back home to Mexico a couple of days ago.

But let's not be too hard on Spain, no team would want to be drawn in a group with Serbia & Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

What a tough, tough draw.

Eff you man, they are hard to beat, they stick together....oh, what? we are not talking about eurosong!? yeah ok, that is pathetic.

Germany/Alemania will destroy them all.

Question. Does Freddy Adu play on the US national team?
not yet, let's see if the great US hype will be ready for the 2010 WC.

And let's not forget the mighty Lithuania!

slowly but surely soccer in america is catching up to the rest of the world. popularity is getting higher and hell the USA team is ranked SIXTH in the world. that's not too shabby (who'd of thought?).

Man i hope when Freddy Adu starts playin next year(??) in Manchester really does help him hone his skills and makes him the best player in the world. still can't believe he is a minor........

while we're currently ranked sixth in the world we are definitely not the sixth best internatinoal team, if that makes any sense. we have the luxury in playing in a relatively weak region and haven't made any stupid mistakes against lesser squads, hence the high rating.

Whoa, USA is going to the world cup after beating a bunch of shitty central american teams? No shit?

The US is a very good team now.. We were ranked 15th in the world by FIFA last year, and this year we're ranked 6th (above England btw :D ) Hopefully we will do decent in the WC.

I thought not making stupid mistakes is a virtue of team quality and not an excuse to put down a team.

The USA are shite compared to England. The World Cup will never leave Europe and South America.

The team that makes the fewest stupid mistakes is usually the team that wins.

While seeing USA lose is always enjoyable, seeing them lose when they have high expectations is even better. :D
I don't think we ever really have high expectations. I'm just happy to see us do respectably against the best in the world.

In related news, I can count the number of U.S. citizens that care on one hand.

wow Oli, you have 18,000+ fingers on one hand? cuz i saw a lot of US fans in the stadium.

oh and it was great that mexico lost cuz damn mexicans around in Lynwood, South Gate and Huntington Park like to celebrate on the streets every time they beat USA.

oh and what makes it better is that Team USA has qualified first from the Concacaf region. First time it has happened since 1934. Sure has improved a lot since their shameful showing in 1998 (32nd place - no wins either or goals for that matter).

Months later

"them" - "HA HA you lost the World Cup!!"

"us" - "There was a world wha....? OOH freedom fries and corn syrup!!!"

OR

"them" - "So you managed to win the World Cup!!"

"us" - "There was a world wha.... OOH freedom fries and bean pies!!!"

I kid, sort of. I remember the Women's World Cup clearly, but most people I talk to it about say things like, "Oh you mean where that girl took off her shirt? Man she was so hot, I'd do her, etc...". Maybe we'll care more about this one, if only to take our mind off recent events.

Mexico (5-1-1) still needs another point in its final three games to make Germany 2006. Its coach, Ricardo Lavolpe, was not impressed by the winners.

"The U.S. is a small team," he said. "They play like my sister, my aunt and my grandmother."

What a fucking sore loser. Sorry jackass, guess you can't beat a trio of old mexican women.

Big deal if USA are ranked sixth, as said previously it means jack shit. They will still get stomped on by 'lesser' ranked nations like england.

STOMP STOMP STOMP.

If Ireland qualifies my boy and I will probably be there. He's irish and I just would like to go to a World Cup sometime in my life, seems to be a great opportunity to see Europe and the WC in one swoop.

However, Ireland is going to need an upset or two after their tie to Israel :(

is anyone actually going to Germany?

I might since my crazy J girlfriend has been bothering me about it for a while now.

I myself of course will be wearing my orange Marco Van Basten shirt or Van The Man one :D :D :D :D

^ We won't win the Cup without van Bommel, Davids, Seedorf and Kluivert.

Van Nistelrooy SUCKS ASS!! (along with Maduro, Sneijder, Van der Vaart, Opdam, Landzaat etc.)

Those guys will be back again in the line up, just give it time, Van Bommel, Davids and Kluivert all need to settle at their new clubs. Give it time

I'd love to see England win or at least perform at a level that isn't a complete and utter fucking tragedy...but I doubt it'll happen

IF England get through the qualifying stages then I doubt they'll get to the last 16. The last England match I watched was a complete joke and I bet nothing changes between now and next Summer.

Well done to America btw :D Anyone else rooting for a USA vs England match at some point of the World Cup? :lol

Same could be said towards Australia, but that entire tirade of football issues is a whole different story. I am just thanking fuck that we're out of Oceania groupings and heading into the Asian Confederation plus with the huge boost that A-League seems to be getting. 2 weeks into it and crowds are averaging 15,000+ quite a lot more than what they were hoping with 10,000.

i'm planning on backpacking through Europe next summer and hope to make a stop in Germany to catch a game. i need to buy the tickets well in advance and plan my vacation around that.

I might go. It'll be 2018 before it returns to Europe, and I don't feel like making the trip to South Africa or (probably) Brazil, so this'll be the best chance in ages. Plus I can actually get by in German to a degree, enough for a couple of weeks anyhow.
