We have never measured the one-way speed of light before

All of the measurements of light have been via reflected light, and we do not yet have a way of verifying if light travels at different speeds in different directions. The convention that light travels the same in all directions is thus just an assumption and not an empirically verified fact.

What I found interesting is that the defined speed of light has changed over the years based not on measurement accuracy, but convenience.
At least, that’s what I’ve been led to believe

Physicists get really mad when you suggest it, but I have a feeling the current accepted speed of light is not the fastest it can go.
