Right now I have dreamhost serving my site, but someone told me about '1and1.com' and I just looked at their packages and find them really good. I'm definitely going to give them a call and ask them to clarify some info, but has anyone here dealt with them before?

Like how's the service? Server speed and stability? Extra costs hidden between the lines? Quality tech support?

Anyone has any other web hosts to recommend?

I know a bunch of people that signed up when they were giving away free accounts for three years (unlimited space I think). So far there haven't really been any complaints.

i use globat.com

they give you a lot of space (2.5 GB) and insane bandwidth, but limited to bandwidth per day, which is 2.5 GB.

support sql DB and other goodies, for $100 a year.

My gf got a dreamhost domain for $10 when they had their deal, but I find a lot of their support and tools 'crypitic'.

That's one thing about dreamhost I don't like. I don't like their control panel. It's not really professional. And their statistics page is beyond atrocious.

Dreamhost's Control Panel is like they hired a PHP/ASP college student and asked them to make it.

Im using the 1and1 root server 2 option to host my linux server. I doubt this is what you're looking at getting, but so far the service has been excellent. I've been very pleased.

Smegging smeg of a smeg!
Dreamhost just doubled their bandwidth, so that's a nice addition to a decent package.
H2oH Hosting is good too. Oh and I make money if you sign up via that link. :D

Seriously, that's my only beef, that control panel.... thank god the help engine, seems to have alot of answer in it... it's like they had to student right it... didn't change it, but then answered all the questions that people get when they look at it and go... well where the hell is this? And how do I do this?

I use powweb.com for work and am about to switch over the band I'm about to start working for's site to powweb as well. The only thing that sucks is with the new referral thing, all these people are sending out spam for powweb to collect the $65/per referral.

(If anyone wants to sign up and let me refer them... heh...)

But seriously, for the price/features, it's pretty good. 2gb/storage, 650 pop3/webmail accounts, 150gb/xfer a month, 5 sql databases, etc. for <$8/month.

EDIT: ooh, just checked. They expanded it to 6 extra months (a total of 8?) free for the hollidays with a 1 year signup. Not bad at all... that's under $5/month.
