Websites that force you to change your password periodically

Am I the only one who hates that shit? That happened a few months back with my online management account for my cell phone, I was forced to change my password. Then of course 3 months later when I actually need my account I don't remember a thing about changing it and get the account locked after 3 attempts.

And then I need to contact the company's terrible outsourced customer service just to get it reset. Obviously, the number doesn't work on fridays at 10PM, so I have to wait until tomorrow to restore my access.

Who the fuck is the genius who thought this shit is a good idea?

Apple does this. And it gradually drove me away from the iTMS. (along with not being able to re-download previous music purchases)
 
Hey, you can't deny it's secure. I mean, if you can't even get into your account, how the hell is anybody else supposed to?????
 
my work system does this. i just put sequential numbers after my password. as a 'plus', it's also an easy way to track how many months i've spent being miserable.

Where I work, we have around 5 different system logins and each requires a new password every 30 days.
 
I think the reason they do this is because a lot of people pick easily crackable passwords, so changing it often helps security. On the other hand, they could just do better at having people think of better passwords.

most people end up doing this.

i seem to recall reading something a year or two ago that suggested that changing the passwords doesn't actually provide a security benefit, but many places still require it.
 
I don't understand why my work makes me change my PW every 3 months or whatever. I just keep the same root word and add an incremental digit onto the end. If someone compromised my password they'd know the root and could just try various numbers at the end. AFAIK everyone at work does this as well.
 
My work did this obnoxiously. I had to change my password every few weeks and of course you can't use the last 8 passwords and you have to have a capital letter and a number and a special character and it has to be 8 characters. And the goddamn keyfob that only works 20% of the time. Ffffffffffffuck I'm so glad I don't work there anymore. Stuff like this makes me hate IT people
 
As an IT guy, I can tell you to blame the people who always use passwords that are too easy and use the same password for everything.
 
At work I have upwards of ten different logins with ten different usernames and ten different passwords, that force me to change them at different intervals, and have different requirements (numbers, letters, special characters), and don't let me do the same password twice ever. fml

Damn, I thought I had it bad.

At work, I have five different logins with three different usernames and five different passwords that I'm forced to change monthly (at different intervals as well). Also, I can't have the same password twice.

I also need to know the code to get into my building (it changes every three months or so) and the password to retrieve my voicemail from my telephone, which I have to change every month as well.
