Just to fan the flames...

Riddick was in around 1000 less theatres than Potter & Shrek (2700 or so versus over 3800).

And how could any movie compete with those two only having been out a few weeks themselves.

And finally...Riddick was fun so bleah ;P

Bring on the sequels!
 
What the...Garfield is out?

I saw Harry Potter last night. I was actually pretty impressed with how they managed to fit almost the entire story into a 2 hour movie but still felt like the first hour and a half was terribly rushed. The season would change from fall to winter in a span of 10 minutes. The book was much better but I still loved the Harry Potter film look and feel.

Shrek 2 + Harry Potter + 3 midcard releases = mediocre boxoffice.
 
Yep. Looks like Garfield and Stepford Wives sucked a lot of money out Riddick. :\ For god knows what reason. Maybe sci-fi really is doomed. :(
