The best thing that happened to Titanic was a delay that forced it's release out in the middle of nowhere. It was supposed to debut against Air Force One, and it would have disappeared relatively quickly then, I think.

its crazy how all these numbers are so inflated now though. I remember the first real blockbuster i remember following the box office for was Batman in 89. Didn't it set the opening weekend record with like $20 million or something? Now every blockbuster makes $20 million in the first few hours.

Maybe they should rank movies in terms of number of tickets sold, kinda like how games sales are counted in units sold.
