Welcome to the ONE CONSOLE FUTURE

i actually thought it is quite close.

anyhow, despite the asstastic desgin. nothing major was fixed with the controller. still no analog triggers (or at least proper ones), still shitty analog sticks with domed tops, still in secondary position. no headphone/mic jack. no extra buttons or functionality (sans wireless). nothing new except the shitty new design.

and only 1 day battery charge? wtf!
I told you that you would like the controller! Now drop and give me 20!

Geeze. Whingers. You think they'd be GRATEFUL for Sony giving an ACTUAL NEXT GEN EXPERIENCE. No. They have to whine about dildo looking controllers.

Where did we get the 1 day battery charge from? and how do you know that port on the top of the controler isnt for a communicator? I thought you were bitching about the concaveness of the 360 analoge sticks.

as long as that's your controller, you are in lala land. that is fucking HIDEOUS! :lol it makes the old Xbox Duke controller seem like geniuses designed it.

I agree that it sucks, but it really doesn't matter much in the long run. As long as third parties make controllers and/or controller adapters for the system, it'll be possible to find a controller to suit. (I'd love to be able to just plug a DS2 in there, myself, but that's just me.) Besides, if a steaming dog turd like the original MS 'meatloaf' controller couldn't kill the Xbox, then I daresay the PS3 can survive with the Batarang long enough for Sony or some third party to crank out a better alternative.

Besides, do we even have official confirmation that the controller design's been finalized yet? If nothing else, I'd imagine that the negative buzz about it might get Sony to go with another design between now and launch.

i got that from their press conference. where they said "the controller's charge will last one day before having to recharge"

and hell no, concave has always been my preference. you have NEVER seen me ever say otherwise. i hate domed analog tops.

The PS3 blew me away today, but a one console future would still suck. Multiple consoles are helping keep prices down and driving tech forward; a single company having a monopoly on the market would halt all of this.

onc console = Playstaion 4 coming out in what, 2020?

I wonder just how long Sony would milk a console if they had no competition.

This is why M$ and Nintendo should have gotten together to make one console to compete with the PS3... that or Nintendo should have left hardware alone and concentrated on becoming an excellent 3rd party developer.

Oh Jonny, Jonny, Jonny... you backed the wrong horse, pal. But there is still room for you in the ONE CONSOLE FUTURE! Just renounce Nintendo, pal. You'll be doing it in 3 years anyhow when only 1 Nintendo game and no 3rd party game come out per 2 months on Rev.

good post. Logitech makes some great ones. hopefully they will come to the rescue. what i would really love to see is some kind of adapter for the Xbox 360 controller. seems like it should work on PS3 since it has USB 2 slots (?).

Whoa, what's up with that controller? Cripes. I like the color and everything, but those handles are way too fucking long.

That's the only thing I find bitchworthy. Already a step up from PS2, designwise.

Well played, Mister Duke.

We are all brothers and sisters in the glorious ONE CONSOLE FUTURE, where developers are free to focus their creativity and competitive ethic on ONE PLATFORM, uncompromised by lowest common denominator systems or egocentric controller designs. Where a gamer can spend $300 once every 8-10 years, knowing that developers will tap the system for all it's worth and develop great content. Where we come together to discuss games, instead of making uninformed arguments about hardware innovation or brand name preference. Where every game is an EXCLUSIVE.

It's beautiful, this bright and shining light on the horizon, glittering like a thousand -- nay, a million -- individual tears on the acne-scarred cheeks of obese Nintendo fanboys everywhere, as they queue up at Wal-Mart in April of 2006 to part with their money and welcome in the auspices of the ONE CONSOLE FUTURE.

actually, i've played with this controller before... back on the PC there was the almost identical design. it sucked ass back then and everyone hated it, which is why it died out so fast.
Is this the one you were talking about? If so yes it was trash and if you compare you will see that it is very different.

Sony hasn't released proper pics to show off the system yet. It is extremely nice looking in the PC video. EXTREMELY. As for the controller...I think I've said enough on that that issue.

I need to see the video. This is my first time back here since 2:00 yesterday afternoon.

Hope you've got broadband! It totally at the end though. Oh and the video doesn't get good till about half way through.

Tell MS to step it up a notch or two then.

No shit. I wanted my 4GHz ISSCC-Cell. Now, instead, Sony can increase yeilds (and profits) and still beat out MS, instead of giving me what they designed. J.Allard... you're a douche, I'll blame you.

I can't believe that someone my age, who hates Nintendo btw, wants a one console future. Yeah, I sure loved paying $50 for NES carts and waiting 2 extra years for the next gen that was being fought in Japan.

Less competition=We Lose. It's been proven in just about every industry, and it's been proven twice in videogames.

I don't know if this has been said before, because of the number of PS3 threads floating around, but i find it hilarious that people bagged out the Xbox so much for being huge, and now the PS3 is bigger, and people aren't saying anything. :lol

You're saying something about it right now, just like people said stuff about Xbox being huge and others defended it. GAF isn't one huge entity you know.

I was just flipping through my handy ONE CONSOLE FUTURE manual and I can't find a PC game/video card section. who's making 'em and how often?

comfused.

It's as big as the XBox yes, but it's got contours...it isn't just a huge box. Sony made a massive system look sleak. Now if it were a big box like Xbox1, then there would be a lot more bitching I'm sure.

I thought artists hated it when others knocked off their shit word for word.

And the blatant fanboyism in the first post "Oh the controller will be fine..." etc is the same shit I always see Raoul rip on the Nintendo crowd about. Blind faith being all shit and all that. The classy thing to do would have been to not mention that abomination and just go with how sexy the unit itself looks, pimp blueray and keep mentioning killzone killzone killzone.

Here's my guess:

Xbox 360: People will buy it to play LIVE games.
PS3: People will buy it to play amazing SONY games.
Nintendo Revolution: People will buy it to play unusual Nintendo games.

MS's success depends upon LIVE doing well.
Sony will succeed based upon the platform's strength.
Nintendo will sell boxes by trying to do something different.

Next gen will be a repeat of this gen, only with better graphics.

People will make fun of Nintendo; all the while Nintendo will continue to profit, while Sony and MS will need lots of time to recover their hardware & investment costs.

I don't know about that, Chum. The system just look's like a slightly more aerodynamic fat box to me.

I didn't say the controller would be "fine". I said you had better damn well like it if you intend on playing games in the ONE CONSOLE FUTURE.

As far as knocking Doug off word for word, I don't really think myself capable of his verbal panache. I'm more like the drunken, irascible enforcer of the ONE CONSOLE FUTURE. Drinky is the vision guy, and MAF is MAF. But there's a place for everyone! Now get in line or else.

I wouldn't like a one console future at all...

Hard not to be impressed at Sony's PS3 unveiling, though.....I mean...*GOOD GOD!!!*
