Sorry this happened to you. Fuck, these threads are so common on GAF... makes me scared. Pretty much my worst nightmare. I'm not rich by any means and replacing a lot of my shit would be near impossible. At least it was just wallets.

As for the keys, they may well have zero intention of using them. They just want to maximize your inconvenience by having you replace all that shit. Pretty evil IMO, fuckers.

Even with a gun, I doubt it would be useful on this particular case, as they weren't expecting anything. It was pretty fast.

Just now. My brother and a friend were having a conversation. The front gate was oppened a bit. Two guys, one with a fucking gun, approached them and made them as hostage, while they searched for anything of value on the house. Me and my mother were sleeping on an annex of the house, so we didn't see anything. They simply got mine, my brother and my friend's wallets, some money, the key to the gate and the key of my friend's car.

My documents weren't really that important (my credit card was personalized with the photo of my family, so they leave it behind), blocked the most important and asked for replacements.

But it's so revolting. They still have the nerve of calling us hobos and shit. Man, if I could, I would kill these fucking guys with no remorse. I cant though... Well, at least I'm still alive.

Truly sorry to hear that. I saw you said it was difficult to get a gun.. How about a couple of dogs? Nothing, of course, is foolproof, but they are a great thing to have that may make some people think twice.

You guys seem to have this odd idea that robbers with guns are under an oath not to actually hurt anyone unless they absolutely have to.

Well I would recommend getting a security system and some cameras, but in this particular case, neither a gun nor a security system would have helped because your were sleeping and the gate was left open anyways. If you don't have the cash, you could buy some dummy cameras and security stickers to post all around your gate and house in highly visible places and robbers may be discouraged by that and move on to the next house instead.

I live in this isolated, low population town...there is absolute pin drop silence in my house every night and my house has minimal security (weak glass doors, no alarms etc). I have been having trouble sleeping this past week. Last night I went to bed at 4 AM :/

All the time there have been armed robberies here where I live, nobody gets hurt, because the robbers feel safe enough to just get what they want and leave.

Add armed houseowners to the mix and suddenly they feel a lot more uncomfortable.
