I'll try to keep this short...

First up:
House of Flying Daggers

Good movie. Exact same situation as Hero, long moments of dull followed by amazing scenes of action. Some very heartfelt pieces but the director is trying to pull so much out of so little in the quiet scenes. I like the simple storylines and character archetypes being used which makes for a more intimate affair. I think Hero was more succesful but only by a narrow margin. I was very impressed with the CG, but of course was very obvious where it was being used when the camera was picking up moments that no real camera operator could. 7/10

Second Film:
Life Aquatic

Exactly the movie I expected it to be aside from the gunplay sequences. Wes Anderson has very dry humor and likes his movies to play out slowly. Never is Aquatic laugh out loud funny but it is filled with "whimsy" I can't recommend it to everyone and most likely only Anderson fans will like it. 7/10

Third Film:
Sideways

Certainly the funniest movie I've seen all year. I can see it winning best screenplay and the two leads getting actor and supporting actors nominations. Great film fantastically paced and directed and completely not what I expected the film to be at all. I'm not drinking Merlot!

9/10

Of course. I even did the honest thing in the 5 minutes between House of Flying Daggers and Life Aquatic and got my ticket torn.

I was planning on seeing a 4th movie but my brother wanted to see Sideways at 7:35 and I was wanting to see The Aviator then Sideways.

Good choice. Sideways is the best movie I've seen all year and even after seeing it 3 times already, it's every bit as funny as the first time. I was expecting to enjoy House of the Flying Daggers and The Life Aquatic more, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. I'll probably get both on DVD, but neither is particularly great on the whole.

As for the Aviator, I lie in the minority on it, but I loathed it. It's well done, but it's neither entertaining nor interesting. Much as I adore Cate Blanchett and for all the kudos she's getting on emulating Katherine Hepburn, I dreaded when she was on screen and talking; the accent is killer. Still, despite a stiff script and some directional meandering, the actors did a great job on it and if you like Scorcese, this should be right up your ally.

I'm still waiting for the Assassination of Richard Nixon and The Sea Inside to open here. NY and LA need to share the love.

Well, I've got to check out the Avaitor anyway. I'm in a rush to see the oscar hopefuls. The same theater is also playing Hotel Rwanda and Finding Neverland which are others I want to see. Other than those, Million Dollar Baby is also on my list.

Knows the Score
I don't think I watched 3 movies over the course of last year, let alone do it in one day.

When I was unemployed a couple years ago I would go to the movies once a week and see 2-3 in a day. Only paid for the first one though. Would map out times before I went.

Sometimes you would have to see a piece of dog crap as a filler. I actually saw Van Wilder in the theater! The only time I was the ONLY person in the theater.
