Every game has rpg elements now so the best genre is survival horror. Throw in some more rpg elements and it'll be undisputed.

Current good rpgs:
KCD2
SMTV
Clair 33
Oblivion

Bad RPGs:
Rebirth

Issues I have:
Piss side quests.
Lack of challenge or option to make game hard.
Dog water writing and dialogue.
Terrible upgrade paths or lack thereof. Green arrow go up.

I hate level scaling
That crap has been around before Oblivion. 😡 With Oblivion being a poster child why it sucks most of the times. "But why"!? …well, clearly to save on cost and not worry about proper zone design and loot placement.

Personally I hate Joss Whedon rip off snarky dialogue and modern verbiage in RPGs.

But there are still great RPGs being produced. BG3, Pathfinder WotR, Rogue Trader, KCD2, and more.

Before voting, just reading some of the choices i want to tell you that this is already wrong, most of those listed are present in old RPGs as much as modern RPGs. So just say 4 things you dislike in RPGs instead, lmao.

By far is the poor interpretation of RPG systems to begin with. Many RPGs just become number games where you constantly chase the same weapons, magic, skills, etc; but with a higher number, to then defeat the same enemies as before, but with a higher number.
Yeah, pure stat-bloat is the laziest of difficulty balance in game design...across all genres.
