What are some affordable and comfortable pillows?

This is pretty important because recently my neck just isn't feeling too great after taking a nap or waking up from sleep. I'm browsing around looking at pillows and amazon, there are always different opinions and pros/cons on things so I wonder what some of you guys feel about certain pillows first hand.

Are contour pillows more comfortable for the neck than a regular shaped pillow? Did you have you adjust your sleep position in anyway to accommodate for the shape? How are tempurpedic pillows for those that have them? Are they worth the price, if not are the alternatives worth it (there are other memory foam pillows but some reviews say it might not be as firm)? Memory foam pillows seems to have smell according to some reviews, how is it according to you first hand, does it disappear or is it always slightly lingering? I noticed that there are pillows that some people position between their knees, does that help your sleep posture and sleep quality enough to get one of those pillows?

Anything else that adds to this discussion will be helpful. Even though I am looking for affordability (I had to pay for wisdom teeth removal + bone graft out of pocket because my insurance doesn't cover bone grafts), if it really is worth the cost, I don't mind investing a bit more in being comfortable. Though if you recommend me to try to get a really good mattress to go with it, I'll definitely hold off on that for now.

I enjoy my buckwheat pillow. It's great for neck support, though it takes some getting used to if you've never used one before.

Reading up on it, what adjustments did you have to do to get used to it? They say it is rather heavy for a pillow. How is the softness of it?

I got a "Side" pillow from Kittles, and I absolutely love it. Its thick and firm, so it holds my head up without sagging, and my arm comfortably under my head (head cant feel arm and can't cant really feel head). I love it. Was $60 and bought it on the spot after using it to demo beds for my girlfriend.

If you're a side sleeper its awesome. Dont have the name right now but Ill have it later.

It starts out rather noisy if you move your head a lot, but I didn't find it hard to get used to, and it's not bad once you break it in. They are heavy pillows. They are designed to conform to you and hold their shape, and i really like the neck support. The first night you lay on one you're going to think it's too firm, but they can be quite comfortable.
