1992: Christin Laettner's stupid shot that beat Kentucky in a ncaa final four game...

That game almost killed me too. That mother fucker should've been thrown out when he stepped on that dude on purpose.

Single greatest basketball game of all time

Funny how many UK fans take the "bank shot from God" as an easy shot. Duke deserved to win that game, in more ways than I can innumerate.

2. Super Bowl XXX. Neil O'Donnel to Larry Brown for 2 TD's. Steelers were driving for the go ahead score at 20-17 on the second one. I will never forgive him for that.

"Please welcome Neil O'Donnell, our Super Bowl XXX MVP from the Dallas Cowboys...wait, what team does he play for?"

Karma's a bitch, though, as O'Donnell found out in the offseason; he signed with the Jets and quickly went down with ligament damage that sidelined him for the year before playing a regular season game, as I recall.

For the Super Bowl game, his "show me the money" antics, and his blatant encouragement or Kordell that would mess with the team for years to come, we can never forget.

Vancouver Canucks vs New York Rangers 1994 Game 7 Stanley Cup Final, 3-2 loss. Bishop already outlined everything.

A part of me smiles every time a New York pro sports team loses, just because of that game. It pretty much heralded the 90's dark era for the team since Bure was on his way to knee damage and the team would then run into one of the hardest sports losses I can recall: 1995 second round series vs. the Blackhawks. To this day I still can't figure out why the refs suddenly felt that calling the crease rule to the letter was needed.

On the other side that year was also the gross referee incompetence shown as the entire Nordiques franchise was killed by a single bad call in a game versus the Rangers. The Nords may not have won the series anyway, but I've talked to a few former Nords fans over the years, and their fandom died in apathy that night.

Portland Trailblazers losing Game 6 (and the series) of the 1992 NBA finals to the Chicago Bulls after being screwed out of their 18 point lead by the refs.

Screw the bulls !!!!!!!!!

If you're a Blazers fan, I would think blowing the 10 point lead in 2000 Game 7 to the Lakers would be worse, just because they should have won that game, like, easily. And you would've waxed Philadelphia.

And yeah I see a lot of people say 2001 World Series, the only thing that saved it from being a complete disaster, was they won the past 3 WS, and didn't deserve to win games four and five, other than Kim imploding, anyway.

Oh, I think I can mention St John's against Ohio State in the Elite Eight four years ago. They should've won that game, and the next year they were a 2 seed and lost to Gonzaga second round! I think I like the Storm better when they toil in obsucirity ;)

Is Megafoo Chavez a UK fan? I don't think so. He's probably just a fan of the good guys. :)

I saw this year's FSU/Miami game, and FSU did deserve to win, and they would have, dispite Rix, if their playcalling had been up to snuff. It wasn't and they lost. I found it interesting that none of the FSU fans mentioned their meltdowns in title games, rather the crushing losses to their florida rivals Miami. Hell, that game against Nebraska I thought for sure they would win, but Tommy Frazier led them down for the game winning FG in a HUGE upset (1995?). They got shut DOWN against Oklahoma too in 2001? 13-2 was the final score, a very winnable game for a team of FSU's offensive calibur.

Rivalry losses are waaaay worse. FSU has played for and lost plenty of championships, it's the games where you lose those to a rivalry team and should have won or had a good chance to win that really hurt.

Champions League final 2000. Bayern München vs Manchester United. Last minute. Bayern leads by 1:0. And then Manu scores two goals in the last freaking seconds. IIRC both corner kicks by Beckham. I'm not a Bayern supporter (actually I despise them), but it most have been SO hard for those suckers, hrhr.

:(

This is the worst sports loss I have seen, for the same reason. All we had to do was NOT turn the ball over and we easily win this game. Our defense totally dominated Dallas after their first drive of the game. I will say Odonnel helped us get back into the same game he almost threw away, but what hurts is how bad those interceptions were. I mean there was no one stepping in front making a good play, the throws were just so bad it really looked like he was throwing to fucking Brown. Brown should thank Odonnell everyday for the rest of his life, Neil got him a Superbowl MVP and a fat contract and Brown was never heard from again after that.

It also hurt almost as much when we blew the AFC Championship against the Pats. That was the first game I have seen where a team won ENTIRELY on special teams (and that homogay bastard Kordell). The sad thing is both of those Steelers teams had great defenses, the 95 team in particular was one of the best defenses I have ever seen. And the 2000 Steelers just dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball like few teams ever have. We just wasted both games by having worthless qbs. :(

Thank God those days are over with Big Ben on the scence. :D

The revionist history with the Pistons is hysterical though...ain't nobody thought any team in the east would do shit in the finals (and most poeple picked the Pacers to come out of the east anyway), while the Lakers/Spurs series was seen the NBA finals. Only after the Pistons murdered the Lakers in every way possible did people look at them as being the better squad...heh, what a joke.

I still think the Lakers healthy were a better team then Detroit. If we had a healthy Malone I think the series turns out totally differently. I can't complain though, the Lakers (and almost every championship team) has had their share of luck with injuries. We got a Minnesota team missing Sam I am last year and the year the Lakers swept the Spurs that Anderson injury was huge. I don't even think the Pistons are going back to the finals this year, IMHO they were a fluke team that will never win another title as currently configured.

lemme tell you something son, this guy is SO FARKING HUGE HE'LL FLEX AND DESTROY THE SUN no shit
Nice seeing Tampa be the cause of many a bad day. :D

Sadly mine is Tampa related: Tim Wansley vs. the Colts on MNF last year. :(

OH! and: Orlando Magic taking it from the Rockets in a 4-0 sweep in the finals....

Nick Anderson: "Hey! I just missed 4 straight free throws! Hahahahahaha!! Man, this is SO funny! I can't believe how hilarious this is! Can you believe it? 4 in a row! From a (at the time) perennial 3-pt shooter! Man, this is comedy gold! LOL!" :\

What the F*** was he finding so funny?!

There wasn't really a moment from the Lakers/Pistons series that was tough for me to take, cause after game 3 it became apparent they were going to dismantle us so it was sort of anti-climactic. The sweeps at the hands of the Jazz in the 2 years before Phil arrived were much tougher for me, because that team had so much potential talent (Eddie and NVE were still around), especially that year we won 61 games and swept the shit out of the Sonics to make it to the WCF, only to have fuckin Utah take us out in 4 straight. Man how cool would it have been to have the Shaq/Kobe Lakers meet the MJ/Pip Bulls in the Finals that year?

^ I reckon France beating Italy in a similar fashion in the Euro 2000 final is also on that list. No emotional value for me though.

:lol 8 rushing touchdowns allowed...good Lord.

I would've said today's 2-0 loss to Arsenal by Man United to end their streak of 49 unbeaten league games (plus a two year road unbeaten streak, plus a similiar two year scoring streak), but I couldn't even find a bar to watch the game in today.

Qualifying for the Euro 2000 Championships when Scotland lost 2-1 to England over 2 legs. Scotland absolutely destroyed England over the two legs. We played them off the park at Hampden (first leg) and lost 2 fecking 0. They had about 2 shots on goal and the wee ginger shitebag Scholes got both.

At Wembley though, all of the English papers had headlines ringing that Scotland don't deserve to be on the same pitch as England and were talking about scores in the 5/6-0 range. Stunning performance from the Scots. Porn star Seaman pulls off one save every 2 years to enamour him to the fans and we really deserved to go through that night.

Shame them kind of performances are now the stuff of dreams for Scotland.

Haha, now I feel bad about beating you in the play-off for Euro2004.

First giving you hope by losing 1-0 in Scotland to utterly destroy you with 6-0 in Holland

last year's packers playoff game... they were kicking ass and taking names. practically no time left on the clock (relatively at least), and all they had to do was stop 4th and 26 and they could have won the game... ANY FREAKING PREVENT PACKAGE IN THE WORLD WOULD HAVE STOPPED THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

and they failed... after that point I knew the packers deserved to lose that game.. if not they would have been just embarrassed in the super bowl.

Lakers and Spurs

When Timmy hit the jumper over Shaq I was about to break open a beer after throwing everything around the room in joy then Fisher hit that lucky shot. I felt like my heart was ripped from my body.

Two words:

Jeffrey. Maier.

Yeah, that date in October 1996 was pretty heartbreaking. And while my team hasn't been to the playoffs in a while, I've had the Diamondbacks, Angels, Marlins, and Red Sox to keep me happy while I wait.
