• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What are you looking forward to most next gen?

PS3's capacity for insanely high-quality sprite work and prerecorded audio (not that I'm gonna have a 1080p set anytime soon, or that any devs will go nuts on huge-res animation); Revolution's potential as a platform for reviving the classics for a broad audience and offering a platform for small-team, quick-development games (although I don't expect Nintendo to take the risk of cannibalizing full-price sales with new or newly-translated old-system games); and Microsoft's willingness to dump large amounts of money into weird ideas in order to get a leg up in Japan (although I doubt we'll see another Steel Batallion-type game, and the dev-team choices for Mistwalker's projects aren't exactly reassuring.)

less threads about looking forward, and more screens/movies so I can figure out wtf is good. But the usual, MGS4, FF13, Halo 3, Zelda, Madden, GTA, Shenmue III

Let me think... I'm looking forward to a GTA that looks at least as good as the first Wreckless, doesn't have pop-ups, an actual AI. I start to get hyped for that GTA clone coming out on X360. What's wrong with me?

MGS4 and the Revolution.

I'm only interested in the Rev because it's not a PS3 or a 360 which I largely view as the same at this point.

metroid prime 3 = more of the same with better graphics (and maybe bigger environments) is exactly what i want and it looks like thats what they're gonna do.

ninja gaiden 2 = i expect this game to be amazing. My mind boggles at the thought of next gen AI for a game like this and how it might play out.

elder scrolls oblivion = This one is actually on the horizon... morrowind was probably my favorite RPG of this generation... i put 100's of hours into it. Out of all the next gen games that have been shown so far, this one seems to have the greatest number "next gen" qualities. It's also in the top 2 or 3 best looking 360 games shown.

the next mario = obviously this will be a really high quality platformer... i have no idea what sort of wierd things nintendo might do with it, but i expect it to be awesome.

next gen GTA = this series can really benefit from next gen power... these kinds of games will improve in numerous ways beyond just the graphics. I have problems with every game in this series (not to say that i haven't enjoyed them) but they were all so full of potential and you could just blatantly see the constraints of current gen hardware holding them back. I expect extremly crowded city's insane driving/wreck physics... incredible AI that creates cool emmergent gameplay, and of course, awesome graphics..

MGS4, anything else is second fiddle.

street fighter 4 with high res sprites and BGs in HD resolutions. *drool*

If that was true, then that would be on my most looked forward game or close to it at least.

Shin Megami Tensei/Persona series.

interesting that you mention that, because i just finished nocturne, and i loved it, but the whole time i was playing it i wondered... can atlus really step up to the plate on next gen level graphics? the game has a lot of atmosphere, but all the environments use basicly the same wall again and again. the characters look awesome, but the environments were almost like simple mazes composed of repeating cubes. this didn't really bother me, but i don't think it bodes well for them on next gen platforms.

I don't really know much about atlus... maybe they have way more money than i thought, but i've gotten the impression that they are kind of a small/indy developer. If so, they may be a prime example of a company that might be looking for some help next gen. Creating graphics this gen is very expensive and time consuming... everybody seems to think next gen will be much more difficult.

The heightened fanboyism as many try to justify their purchase by berating those who bought "the other system". Better stock up on the popcorn kids. You think some of the trolling threads are entertaining now, just wait till post-launch. Good times. :)

As to actual games, I'm most excited for whatever promising new, original titles may come to light over the next five years.

GTA, DMC, Zelda, platformers from insomniac and naughty dog, high profile games drom SCEA and SCEE.

Revolution.

It's such an enigma at this point.

X360/PS3...bleh, nothing too exciting thus far.
What's exciting about Revolution?
We don't know _anything_ about it.

Too Human trilogy (Eternal Darkness 2)
Super Mario 128 (Nintendo)
Forza Motorsports 2 (Microsoft)

And bad games from Rare Ltd, the SFA team has something in the development :lol

The next Mario
Metal Gear Solid 4
The Too Human trilogy
The next Halo
Jade Empire 2
Dragon Age
Whatever else Bioware makes, especially for consoles
The next KOTOR, probably
The next Grand Theft Auto
The next Donkey Kong
New stuff?

I hear ya, I fear they may end up getting gobbled up by a larger publisher/developer. I'm not too worried at the moment though, Atlus has always been good about making games within their means and they seem to have established a comfortable niche for themselves.

Wait, it's not? I was under the impression that the rumors made it a realistic possibility. Short of an official announcement I'm willing to believe anything at this point.

Next big rpg from Square-Enix
Next big rpg from Tri-Ace
Next big rpg from GameArts
Next big rpg from Aruze
Next big rpg from Level-5
Next big rpg from Tales Studio
Next big rpg from Atlus
Next big rpg from Nipponichi

and such :lol

Street fighter 4 (if possible)
new rival schools (if possible)
Resident evil 5 (yes i am a capcom whore)
tekken 6

oh and the nintendo revolution

DOA4. I want to see how Itagaki uses the great new physics engines to enhance the bounce physics.

Nothing's really caught my imagination as far as next-gen goes yet. RE5 of course, but that will be a while off. The closest thing to something I'd want to play is that other Capcom zombie game, but that's not something I'd buy a system for.

Everything I'm really looking forward to is on the current systems at the moment - PSU being the main one, and Zelda, Wanda, Okami ...

More interested in seeing what exactly Nintendo have been up to with Revolution than PS3/X360 at the moment. It could turn out to be a complete anti-climax, but everything seems so predictable and safe with the other machines so far.

MGS4
VF5
Any glimmer of a chance for Shemue III. I don't even need it to be made next-gen, just the possibility that it will be made.

Pikmin

Miyamoto hinted that the interface for the Revolution would work really well with the Pikmin franchise. I want to see alot more of the little guys running around on screen, with bigger, more elaborate worlds and enemies.

DVI 1080p with the Sony PS3 on my 21.3 Inch LCD Computer Monitor

it will be like playing a PC game

oops, i already do that on my SLI 7800s...

:)

um...sequels to my favorite games. obviously.

better graphics, physics and ai?

more functionality from my console.

better online services.

suprising new franchises.

the possibility that insane development costs will actually lead to a more open policy with independent developers in particular areas? everyone says the exact opposite, but I actually believe the madness of cost to the main pulishing/developing arms might actually lead to this. I see glimmerings of it with xbox live arcade and other smaller western developers. I keep hearing that the DS and Revolution are made for that sort of thing, so I'm hoping N gets their head out of their ass with 3rd party relations and really opens things up for smaller groups.

the possibilities of modding :)

Timely Square/Enix releases

Duke Nukem Forever *snicker*

The bloodthirsty Fanboy Wars

Developers cutting back on shitty Movie Licensed games because of development costs

HD Gaming

Katamari Damacy Next Gen with improved graphics and giant worlds with insane amounts of things to pick up

Resident Evil and hundreds of AI zombies (and 3 barrels)

FFXIII

A next Gen FF Tactics

A next Gen Einhander

HD Eyetoy

Full robust media streaming (if 360 fails in this department hopefully PS3 will pick it up)
