Exactly. I still like his novels (though the constant dialogue tags get irritating, especially in audio form), but his characters are all smartass/snarky/whatever in the same way Scalzi is. It's fine, it can be entertaining, but it can also get old.
I'd totes have a beer with the guy, that would probably be amazing.
I think Scalzi is an awful lot like Heinlein. I enjoy reading both of them, but neither of them ever wrote anyone who wasn't them, regardless of gender, species, race, etc..
