I didn't get to play on my PS1 all that much, but I have very good memories of playing Ridge Racer, Wipeout 2097, One of the earlier Tony Hawk games and it is quite possible that it was the first time I played Resident Evil.

Damn these lists are bringing back a lot of forgotten memories for me. PS1 might be my favorite system after all

Fear Effect, Einhander, Ridge Racer Type 4, Heart of Darkness, Legend of Dragoon. Those are a few outside of the common FF7/MGS/SotN lists

No other system has so many amazing titles from pretty much every genre imaginable

PS1 and PS2 are a deadly combo when it comes to the libraries
If you add in the Nintendo Switch it be like;

PS1 and PS2 really fulfilled the promise of Sony making an AV Component quality gaming console. PS3 was kind of a hybrid. PS4 and PS5 are just AMD gaming laptops with Sony branding that lock out a ton of PC games the hardware is capable of playing. Wish they'd reconsider.

Really, you didn't have an extensive innate knowledge of all its thousands of games so you somehow find many when looking into it? How weird.

Anyway, I liked Treasures of the Deep, Echo Night 1/2 & Silent Bomber for relatively niche stuff. The actual best are probably more or less known.

Funny I just bought a copy of treasures of the d e a few months ago and I have never heard anyone utter that title since I read a good review for it in next gen magazine.

Parappa the Rapper

Tenchu

Future Cop:LAPD

Die Hard Trilogy

Tekken 2 (3 is great as well but 2 is special to me)

Vib Ribbon

Destruction Derby 2

Rage Racer

Bushido Blade

Alien Trilogy

Twisted Metal 2

Out of all the playstation family of consoles PS1 still is the GOAT for me, after PS2 the library of each playstation went downhill all the fun imaginatively odd & weird games just dried up as devs became more scared of taking risks and releasing passion projects and just went for safe mainstream stuff. PS1 was like the wild west where devs could just make anything they liked, the library is insanely diverse to the point there's still games i discover in Japan that i had no idea existed.

I experienced it mainly from the Japanese side so my faves are pretty different from the norm of the gran turismos the tomb raiders & the crash bandicoots ect.

The weird fun stuff is where my love for PS1 lies, some of my absolute faves on the system.....

70's robot anime Geppy-x a middle of the road shmup made incredible by the fact it pretends to be a saturday morning anime so it has full animated karaoke intros and endings along with commercial breaks and the soundtrack is fully sung it's quite the experience & like nothing else on any other console.

Oh no, a into the screen runner thats totally bonkers. The comedy and level designs are really fun. It feels like tondemo crisis in parts

Segare ijiri another one i really like, it's like playing a fever dream you combine words together to make scenes play out depending on what you select you will get many random & odd animated clips as you make your way through the maze like game world. Stuff like this would never be made nowadays.

Boku no natsuyasumi, playing through the eyes of a japanese kid experiencing summer via the memory of your adult self it's a series that started on PS1 and i'm glad to say exists in some form now on switch but i wish sony would have worked with millenium kitchen to get it on PS4 as now it only seems this type of game ends up on the switch. Even without Boku as the main protagonist it's still a wonderful series of games.

Tokyo wakusei planetokio, this one has a really unique artstyle an adventure game set on a futuristic floating version of tokyo. Has a ton of cutscenes for everytime you do anything i love games like this that make their worlds enticing to explore.

Just as above with planetokio. Planet DOB is another that has a really cool & unusual world for it's setting. Also the story is bonkers as you have to infiltrate someones brain.

Have loads of games like this in my PS1 library it's a haven of rhythm stuff, odd games, shmups and everything else in between. Still pick up the odd title from time to time but some of the more obscure cool stuff now has astronomical price tags.

Koudelka.
Dino Crisis 2.
Sukooden/2.
Breath of Fire IV.
Tekken 2.
Xenogears.

There's way more I can list but these are some recent ones outside of the go to. I have yet to play Tomba/Tomba 2, Galerians, Medieval/2, Vampire Hunter D and others that I wish to own and play.

Early days, Jumping Flash, Warhawk, That game with jet skis and a grapple hook??, disrupter (early all polygonal FPS, before analog sticks), Twisted Metal, and a handful of other stellar games I can’t of at the moment. You gotta dig for them..

Castlevania SOTN is amazing
Alundra isn't bad

Haven't really played any other PS1 games that I've enjoyed much, I detested the shitty early 3D graphics back then and it hasn't exactly aged with dignity.

Never tried that one actually. I watched a couple of videos and to me, it feels kind of weird that instead of words you only hear the guitar. Not sure if that makes sense 😂 The gameplay fit the hip hop freestyle thing from Parappa a bit better. But I might give it a shot if I get the chance because I love the characters from the parappa universe.

After you beat the game, you actually get to play through it again as Parappa. It’s super cool.
