I currently have a (broken) Sidekick and after having far too much trouble dealing with T-Mobile and their new Sidekick II (which is fairly disappointing from what I've seen on my sister's device) I think it's time to start looking into something else. What do you guys use?

I know, its their cheap phone, but it makes me look all fucking FBI with my continental ringer. FU. Govts Cheap deal with it.

Sanyo 4920, my phone before that was a Sanyo 4900 still one of the best phones you can get. Really nice, and got a long battery life.

How's the keyboard on that? Is it comfortable to type moderate memos and emails on? Also, how are the NES emus for it?

i'm so tempted to get the new Treo. i've been toying with the idea of ditching my current PDA and going with a smartphone. The Treo's the closest thing to what i'd like, and since i have a Palm currently, it would be fairly painless to move my files over to the Treo.

The keyboard works pretty well; it may seem a bit small at first, but you get used to it quickly, and I never have a problem with my fingers hitting two keys at once or anything like that. The NES emulator available still has a ways to go before it can be considered "perfect." The current version, NESem 1.5, now plays in full screen, but if you want games to be playable, you have to have the sound turned off. I don't mind this as much since whenever I'm playing anything, it's in a place where the sound would have to be turned off anyway. :) The best version for sound though, is NESem 1.4 beta, which can be pretty playable for some games with sound on and the screen size made small. However, the Game Gear emulator (Gizmo), works extremely well and runs great in full screen and with sound on.

I have two Palm devices, the Treo 600 and the Tapwave Zodiac 2. The biggest difference between them is that the Treo has a low-resolution screen and lacks bluetooth. The Treo's screen is fine for typing, web browsing, messaging, and even watching movies on, but it's definitely a noticeable drop in screen quality compared to other devices. However, considering what you get available to you in a small-sized phone, it's definitely well worth the purchase, and a lot more convenient to carry around with you. I'm often using it to browse GA while in class; it's great. :D

T616.

I'll probably replace it with K700 when I can find it somewhere for less than $500 (and I don't mean 499.99 :P ) So far, the T616 is the prettiest phone there is for a normal price, if you live in Canada (although I paid for it a lot more than 'normal' price, back then) Nokia 7610 is also tempting, but it's a bit too large.

cheapest model they had: Siemens M50.

It phones , sends text messages and has some games. Don't need all that other crap that you hardly ever use anyway.

I'd consider the kinds of games the come with cellphones "crap" way before I would a camera feature.

I have a Nokia 6800. I really like it. I only wish it had a longer talk time on the battery and camera features. The full keyboard is a must for me.

For the price and plans, you know deep in your heart nothing beats the Sidekick II. They're only gonna ask you to commit to another year with the trade-in program. By that time, I have no doubt that there will be a phone that beats out the SKII. Until then, the closest thing there is to an SKII beater is the Nokia 9300 but that doesn't come out until first quarter '05. The Blackberry 7100 is a contender too but since it's targeted for business, expect to pay high cost for data. Trust me, I was in your same boat but after realizing that the SKII is the only device with a QWERTY right now that can Instant Message, Email, and web surf all at once (sorry Treo owners), you get spoiled.
