What do you bowl?

I just picked up the hobby less than a month ago. Went with a few friends and it was real fun but I bowled an 80-90 that time. Then I decided one Friday after school to go with my little bro and we played a few games. Again, fun stuff. Since then we went another Friday or two and I bowled with a friend and little brother this week twice. But yeah, it's gotten progressively better. From the initial 80-90 I eventually broke 100 with ups and downs in my form messing me up. I hit 105+ range. And the last time I went I ended with a 119 and 117. But anyway, my brother and I went to bowl 2 games tonight, Sunday night after the leagues ended. I bowled a 179 my first game. 126 the 2nd because I was trying lazy form on spares which I couldn't do. So yeah, 179's my best which I'm pretty proud of. I think it's definetly progression on my part, not just a lucky game.

Oh, and damn does it get expensive. I'm gonna try going on Wednesdays when you can buy the lane for 2 hours+ and get in a lot of practice and a lot of games. Probably should by some shoes too. Anyway, post any high scores or averages you guys bowl.

I went bowling for the first time in a few years over Christmas...think my mightest was like a 91. If you go bowling four times in a week, you'll be bound to improve. It gets better with time.

I suck at bowling.
I usually score around 100. Once, I think I got near 200. I went last week, and scored about 50 on one game. Pathetic. It's not so much that I'm bad, but that I'm highly inconsistent.
If I get a strike, I don't particularly know what I did to deserve that strike...it's like random.

Can someone teach me how to 'curve' the ball? If I could at least do that, I wouldn't care what my score is - since it look so cool..

I took bowling class last semester since I needed that credit to finish my generals... And well, it was better than anything else available. I finished with a 130 average over like 120 games. I started out at like at 90-110ish games, and by the end of the semester I was bowling 130-165ish per game. I haven't bowled since. It was a lot more fun in Junior High and High School when we spit, or shot ketchup/mustard into friend's finger holes the minute they went to get a drink or go to the bathroom.

i bowled juniors about 5 years ago before i smashed heaps of bones in my thumb. my average was 137 at it's peak. my best game was 199. best i could get was 5 strikes in a row, which i did twice.

When I used to play semi-regularly (like once every week or so), which was about 8-10 years ago, I averaged about 150. The few times I've tried to play since then, however, I usually bowl around a 120-130 or so.

you mean spin? i can't bowl straight, it just won't work. But i naturally bowl right to left, which all you have to do is tweak your wrist when you release.

My best is a 153, I'm steadily getting better. I haven't gone as much as I would have liked since school started. I go maybe once a month if I'm lucky. I started spinning about a year ago, and I've made a lot of progress with it. When I get into my groove, I can go on some pretty good runs. Pretty much my biggest problem is cleaning up on spares. If I don't manage to get a strike, I can consistently get seven or eight pins down on the first roll. But I have a hard time getting the last few down, especially when they're situations where I have to bowl straight. I'm just not very accurate when I'm bowling straight. I need to spin.

The last game I bowled was a 34, but I didn't have money to rent shoes, so I played from behind the bowling floor.

I usually play right around the 100's, I think the highest I ever got was between 130-140. My dad bowls consistently 200+, I suck in comparison.

Curving isn't as difficult as it looks, basically you want to put just your index and middle fingers into the holes. Don't put your thumb in. Hold the ball with your palm facing up. Then, as you're rolling the ball, twist your wrist. You're going to want to bowl down the right side if you're right handed or the left side if you're a lefty. Once you get used to it, you won't want to go back to bowling straight. I'm still inconsistent with it, but I can at least usually manage to avoid gutter balls because the ball is spinning away from the gutter.

Jerome Bettis bowled a 300 game. :D

I used to be into it actually...My highest ever score was a 260, back in the day. I haven't gone bowling in over a year though.

My best is a 222.

My average was probably around 180 when I was bowling often with friends. That said, I haven't bowled in a good two years, but it's great fun, although sometimes far too expensive. We'd always do 6+ games or so, and it wasn't cheap near us.

I average around a 115, but I went insane once and got a 221. It goes without saying that I have never come close to repeating that performance ever, but it was still amazing. Bowling is just too damn expensive (atleast where I live) to do it with your friends on too many occassions. It's usually more suitable to just see a movie and dinner than a night of bowling.

I remember the days when my ignorant ass considered bowling was only for white people, then my friend invited me to bowl one night, go whenever I can now.
The highest I ever bowled was 186. My average 120-140.
I bowl with a 13 lb. ball for my first bowl and if its not a strike, I pick up spares with a 12 lb. I've also learned different ways of bowling, like curving or not curving, but im still no pro.

I only bowled for a length in my middle school's bowling league. By the time I graduated, I think I averaged about in the 160s or 170s.

My highest game was 212. I was pretty hot that game. I almost got robbed of a 5th strike (in a row) in that game. The 10th pin just slid across the lane without falling over. My opponents corrected the scoring and gave me a strike for it though.

I've only bowled a handful of times since then and my favorite bowling alley has been closed down. I miss Japantown Bowl... :(

Highest was somewhere in the upper 170s-low 180s (This was 3 years ago, don't remember exactly). My average around that time was 130s.

I bowled a 164 when I was like 12. That was the height of my bowling prowess. Now I suck but I learned how to curve the ball like the pros do.

I started bowling when I was 12, participating in a couple of youth leagues. I haven't bowled in a league in years, but still goto the alley a few times a month. I average around 175-180. My highest game is a 254.

My best is somewhere around 212. Generally I get more like 150-160 though.

people hate me cuz they learn to put some power on the ball and curve it perfectly and I just walk up and sorta slide the ball in a straight line at the pins and beat them.

I was the anchorman of my high school bowling team. We went to state championships our senior year (and got snuffed badly). My highest game ever was in high school (278). 7 strikes, 9 spare (that really pissed me off), 3 strikes, 9 pins. 2 pins away from 300. :( My most recent high game was a 243 in league play (I play in a spring/fall league). I used to have a 200 average in high school, now I'm about 180-190. I was pleasantly surprised to find out The Bus bowls! I'd love to get a game against him, then I could boast that I took down Jerome Bettis! :lol

My dad has a Woody Harrelson like history in bowling. He once bowled a 299, 289, 279, etc. But he told me he hurt his wrist one time and swore off bowling because he couldn't handle not being as good. But yeah, he always underplays his bowling talent until you force it out of him.

Since we always have beers when bowling (rock 'n bowl), I peak a few beers in. The avg games for me are:

1st game- 100-110
2nd- 130-140
3rd- 150-160
after that it usually drops off rapidly (probably 5-6 beer in at that point). Last time I think I finished below 50.

Damn, now I wanna go bowling this weekend!

I only get to bowl about 1-2 times a year now. I'd say my average over the past couple years has been around 160. I don't recall any specific high scores other than a few 200+ games. I really wish I had more opportunities to go bowling, but the alleys around here are crap and so I only go when I'm back home visiting the family.

i usually bowl around a 100-130, but i drink and play with the bumpers. Bumpers are awesome. If you throw the ball hard enough, it will use the bumper like a trampoline and jump over to the next lane.

Correction: my record is a 133.

I got really close last night to beating it when I bowled two strikes in the last two frames. (got a 123). :D

My friend got somewhere in the 200s (he has his own bowling ball and everything). Damn his ass. :-/

I bowled last saturday for the first time in about three or four years, and I bowled a 180-something. Somehow I managed three strikes in a row.

Man, some of you all have no athletic skill? A friend and I were a after school bowling team when we were in 3rd grade and we both averaged 200+ each. We did rock that league though, oh yes ....we rocked.

Ummm...we are talking bowling here...i didn't know it required athlectic skill...

I was having a really unlucky game two weeks ago, I was getting nines and eights on every shot, I even got two 7-10 splits in a row, but I managed to get four strikes in a row as my last four shots which saved my game to a 140ish score

There's no way you did that well in third grade. Or at least, it's certaintly not common (as you can see from this thread).

I bowl on average 150 and my high game is a 190.

I ran track and played basketball. I won MVP of boys' track my junior year of HS.

I would consider myself VERY athletic. :)
