For those who are interested in the Perian builds, here's a link to my friend posting it over on my forum. (I've turned guest downloads on for now.) It's the April 10 build, but it'll still give you a lot more than the current official Perian release.

I was just talking to said friend about more recent builds, and supposedly things are ramping up to an official 1.0 release. So, try this for now, and the final version should be out sometime soon.

Awesome, thanks.

Hello There.
Does anyone know if there is a program as perfect as Irfanview for the Macintosh operation system?
I've tried Cocoview and a few others but they all seem to suck compared to Iview.
I want something that is quick, simple, lite and can handle every single image file under the SUN and most importantly it has to be Zero Dollars.

Okay so sticky windows is amazing. Glad I picked that up.

I just got my mac so I haven't really added too much to it so far.

The nice thing about Leopard is that you can be really lazy with these threads now :)

Outside of what's listed, about the only other things I use are Apple's developer tools & Synergy (which is currently somewhat broken with Leopard since you have to manually start after each reboot).

What's a good (preferably free) program for CD burning? I just need to make some duplicate.

Edit: I saw Toast on the OP, was just hoping for something more free.

Burn is a pretty good freeware burning app. It's just called "Burn."

Visualhub is a good "more free" alternative to Toast at $23. It does better transcodes of many formats (uses an ffmpegx core) and creates better looking DVD/VCD discs.

Mac Book Pro (work machine)
G4 tower (home machine)

Leopard
Adobe Creative Suite 3
Safari/Firefox
iTunes
Reason
Soundtrack Pro
Amadeus
Toast/Jam
Skype
VLC
Popchar

hardware:
M-audio MobilePre USB

ImageWell for minor image editing, Its so quick and easy to resize images and it also has a cool feature where you can send an edited image directly to your hosting site with just one click. :bow
No irfnaview but its the best free image viewer/editor on the OSX.

Transmission Legal Torrents.

If anyone remembers Color It! (a fantastic and cheap photoshop substitute that could use photoshop plug-ins), you may be interested to know that after all these years there is finally an OSX version available.

I haven't tried the new version yet - awaiting a demo.

I also still use GraphicConverter for dealing with all manner of weird file types and also for doing batch changes and so on.

I was SO about to make his topic.

Anyways, I need he best of everything. I need a good image editor (needs to scan too), i need a good word processor (if it's a suite, thats cool too i guess), i need an ftp client, and whatever else you might want to point me towards. It also has to be free. I am a windows fogey and I think shit should be free. Thanks and much obliged!

I really like Burn

I use:

NeoOffice (word processor)
Adium (Instant messenger)
Tomato Torrent (bit torrent)
VLC (media)

That's about all. I use Safari for browsing, but I also have tried Camino and Firefox. I ended up going back to Safari.

SnakeXs

about the same metal capacity as a cucumber
Intel C2D Macbook Pro, Leopard

Some of my most common, day to day stuff.

Chat - Adium

Email - Mail.app, Gmail Widget

Music - iTunes of course

iTunes helper - CoverSutra; I love it. Sexy album cover icon, very nice quick key shortcut capabilities (like I would use with QS, but with perks, like actually having a display of the action done, or current volume level), and Last.fm capabilities. Plus you can get more detailed info at a glance with F6.

iCyclone - OS X fan control. My MBP is at a desk or plugged in the majority of the time, and one of my little issues was always that the left "speaker" area, where I have my left hand anchored a lot, is a little too toasty. This little app lets me run the fans at whatever speed I wish, never lower than the MBP's needs for the moment, and cool things down just enough.

Aurora - Alarm Clock. Not the newest version, since that doesn't use iTunes any longer. It's simple, it works, and as of the version I have, it launches iTunes playlists, which I much prefer, since I have Airtunes and having things play through my sound system = the goal.

Snapz Pro X - Screencasting and more controlled screenshotting app. Handy, nice and simple. My only issue is that it "steals" OS X's default "full screen screenshot" command, no matter where you move it. That said I don't take full screen TOO often, and even then the extra clicks are usually worth it, simply because if it's higher quality, compared to the native snaps.

QuickShareIt - Already been said. Simple little app that's an instant host for files. Quick, works, the files hang around a good long while.

Quicksilver - I liked it as an app launcher, I love it as a weapon to utterly destroying OS X. Mastering this changed everything. I have shortcuts to launching GAF, to uploading my current Finder selection to Quickshareit, for a ton of things. I fuckin' loooove it.

Connect360/MediaLink - Sucked having to buy both, but they're for 360/PS3 media streaming, respectively. Again, they simply work.

That's all that's unique or note worthy. The usual Toast, Perian, Flip4Mac,

safari
sling
flickr uploadr
iphotos
itunes
photoshop
indesign
fcp
idvd
toast
transmit
ichat
skype
vlc
msword
motion (rarely)

...that's about it i think.

thetrin

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Macbook Pro Mac OSX Leopard

Adium
Firefox
Photoshop CS3
VLC Player
FFView (for comic viewing)
Unrar
Scrivener
Xchat

That's all I can think of....for now!

Not a whole lot except the Apple software (Safari, Mail, iCal, iTunes, Pages) and the stuff I use for work (ArchiCAD, Illustrator, Photoshop), but I have found a couple of gems:

Really nice "app switcher" that gives you a list of all open windows (not on the app level as the built in command+tab). Got it mapped to alt+tab/~.

Springy
Very good archive utility. Supports pretty much any format and allows you to drill into an archive and extract a specific file (that don't sound like much for a Windows user but isn't a built in feature sadly).

I've been looking at Forklift as a universal file/archive/ftp utility to use for stuff that Finder won't do, but haven't taken the "plunge" yet (oh $29 how I love you weak dollar.. :)). Anyone use it?
