I have been out of the downloading loop for a while, and haven't really paid attention to any kind of downloading software out there (free or pay). I used to use Winamp about 2 years ago, and stopped using it due to the RIAA starting to flex their muscles and threatening to take downloaders to court. I do know that Kazaa was big, but sucked because when you clicked the readers agreement, they festered your pc with lots of spyware.

I would like suggestions on what kind of downloading tools to use (if it is not against TOS, if so, then ignore this thread), both free based, and pay based. This would be for music purposes only.

Thanks

Winamp to download? 0_o

For individual, hard-to-find music files, I use WinMX.

For full albums, movies, etc., I use IRC.

But in order to search for things via IRC, I use Packet News and IRC Spy. You also need to learn how to use their servers. Here's a tutorial on how to use the bots (if you don't already know).

I forgot to state that I want something without Spyware attached to it as well. How is WinMX these days as far as spyware... I have a router and a firewall attached. I just don't want a bunch of junk on my PC when I download the program, which I know Morpheus, Kazaa and Limewire have...

The rest are garbage.

Best music source is Soulseek (and has been for years), although if you are into electronic music then it isn't probably the best bet.. few friends are big elec fans but the people who leech and share are dickheads and morons.
