What game are you currently playing?

Started a new playthrough of Alien Isolation. Man this game is so good! A proper survival horror experience. Tense and scary as fuck. My nerves are on edge constantly. And it holds up incredibly well graphically.
Should have been shorter though. The bloat put a real dent in it.

started Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.

god i love this game so much. i'm only 2 hours in so far but can already see some changes. i'm doing the vengeance route as i played the creation in the original.

does the creation route have the new gameplay features like the teleport thing (can't remember the name of it) that takes you to new areas (not leyline founts) and the Demon Haunt? or is it exactly like the original version of the game?

On the last main mission now. Really enjoyed this second playthrough. Will buy the DLC when it's on sale.

I will move onto the first Dark Souls game afterward. Never played that past the first boss.

Bloat? I don't recall any bloat. Felt like a proper paced game last time I played it. Was a couple of years ago but I have a very fond memory of this game.
There is this one scene 3/4 in where the game is basically finished and the main character is escaping on for the obligatory HOLD ON… and then the game just tacks on a few hours even though it’s not needed at all. Medium ruined the game for me.

Okay, I remember now. I agree that part kinda stretched it a bit too far. Still excellent game though 👏

Wreckfest on PS5

I am in the second championship, National Amateurs. I have 9 of the 15 events done there. I did most of the fun derby stuff first so now I'm slogging though some races. It's stull fun to race, but the derby stuff is the best part in my opinion. I will admit that I've seen some very crazy stuff happen in races, and it was especially fun to see the CPU initiate it.

Finished Indiana Jones and the Great Circle yesterday.

Great game that however peaks in its first area already. Found the Vatican by far the most interesting and fun area of the game and it’s a bit of downward slope from than on as the new areas get progressively worse. Did almost everything in the Vatican and the in the final area only the main story plus the Field Reports as I could not be bothered by anything else.

Story and writing was good. The reveal at the end kinda took me off guard but then the resolution itself ended up a bit cheap and hastened. Felt like they ran out of time. Had some other issues too but don’t want to get into it at this point.

Good 8/10 game. Hope Machine Games gets another shot at the series.

I'm having an absolute blast with this game. It's like the devs sat down and asked me what I wanted after Onimusha 3. Great cast of characters, plenty of weapons, character switching, and better level design.

I was planning to play the first Dark Souls later too, but I can't get it to work on PC :(. Might just move onto Dark Souls 2 or Stranger of Paradise.

Timelie

What a pleasant surprise. The way it lets you manipulate time for both the girl and the cat makes for some really satisfying puzzle-solving moments. Pulling off a perfectly synchronized plan after a few failed attempts always felt rewarding, and the touch controls made scrubbing through time feel intuitive.

The minimalist art style and relaxing soundtrack create a focused, almost meditative atmosphere, which I really appreciated. The difficulty ramps up at a nice pace—just when you think you’ve got the mechanics down, the game introduces something new to keep you on your toes. Some of the later levels had me pausing for a good while, but finally solving them gave a real sense of accomplishment.

If you're in the mood for a smart, unique puzzle game, Timelie is well worth checking out.

Wrapped it up recently. Has to be one of the most oddball games I've ever played. Not sure it could actually be pinned to a specific genre. Maybe a mix between a 90's internet browser homage sim and "point-and-click" adventure.

Just some call of duty: modern warfare II (2022)
Not much else interesting to me at the moment, unless I go back and replay something

Beat all the battlefields, both story and side. I played new game plus for a few hours and don't think I'll continue. The five-star drop rate seems to be dreadfully low and I don't think there's any other reason to play outside of a slightly bigger challenge. I'll grab the DLC when it's on sale. Was £11.99 the other day and now it's back up to £19.99.

I'm going to install Stranger of Paradise and decide between that or the Nioh 2 DLC.

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams
I've joined up with Tenkai and Ohatsu. I like all the characters so far, but if I were to pick a favourite from a gameplay perspective, it'd be Ohatsu. She's the only one with a ranged weapon as her primary method of attack.

Finished Kill Knight, one of the most fun twin-stick shooters I've played in years. Incredible gameplay loop, fun weapon selection and love its doom eternal-like reward system. Can play for hours on end with only my skills being the limiting factor.

Still playing Avowed and it's great, don't care what anyone says. If you're on the fence - you should absolutely try it.

Not sure what's on the horizon after this though... Atomfall later this month, I really want to try out. I'm sure Avowed will keep me going for at least another week because there's just so much in the game. I did play a little Sonic Mania and was surprised how good it was - though I still hate any and all iterations of Casino Night Zone.... good god.

I need an action game on PS5. I've played them all or I don't like the ones that are left as options. I'm eyeballing Stellar Blade; I played the demo. I don't like how floaty EVE moves and feels. I want action games to feel tight and responsive. And I didn't like their system of colored attacks by enemies. I couldn't gel with it. I know that I should give the full release a try, since, well, I am really at my wit's end for a game until the next four action titles release. I've been in such a gaming funk for many years.

Game is much better than the trial, it is fluid and very responsive tight controls. PS5 Pro HFR mode is insane! Crisp 4K image running 80fps. Gameplay is amazing! One of my fav games of 2024. It's well worth playing.

Since MH released completely broken I'm back to satisfactory for the time being. I still have the Talos principle and Hades lying around but can't bring myself to boot them up.

I've had this on my wishlist a long time, is it worth playing?

Dark Cloud and finishing the achievement set for Resident Evil 3 on RetroAchievements, I'm going full analog gaming as of late. I will jump on Rise of the Ronin PC launch and probably AC Shadows

I started SW Outlaws over the weekend, and I'm about 7 hours in. It's honestly more fun than I expected, with some of the linear missions and exploration reminding me a lot of Uncharted. The combat is serviceable, and it does its job. As for the story, it's good enough to keep me interested.

Oh and the visuals are a real treat (have more pics in the console screenshot thread):

Since I have room for one more short game before my holiday, when I want to tackle a longer RPG again, I decided to replay The Darkness again.

The game hasn't aged too well I have to say. The controls are super sluggish and the game looks bad on my OLED. Well, at least VA and writing are just as good as I remember them.

If it helps, I saw this yesterday, and it bumped my interest in the game up. He talks a lot about how great the combat is:

Nioh 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black (still need platinum trophy for that), and replaying a bit of the Master Collection... basically 100% Team Ninja at this point :D
Also Astro Bot sometimes, but I'm not the main player, just helping sometimes.

I probably should have played this before beating Elden Ring, but here we are. It is very solid but, given that I beat Elden Ring so recently, I can't help but make comparisons. Still, its a really solid Souls-like that deserves some love. Also, it has fully seamless co-op online, which has been nuts so far. Looking forward to chipping away at it more tonight.

These controls are absolutely abysmal. It's all so clunky and unintuitive. And what is it with eastern games always trying to cram in 1,000 tutorial messages in the middle of learning a game's basics? Modern game design is terrible.
