What game are you currently playing?

Just started my first playthrough of Skyward Sword on the Wii U. Maybe it's because I'm experiencing this outside of its time, but I don't see what the big fuss is about. About 3 hours in and I'm loving it.

Skyward Sword is a great game when you're expecting it to suck.

When you're expecting the "once in a console generation amazing Zelda game", it definitely fell flat.

Finisher Cyberpunk Act 2, took me 77 hours to figure out how to kill the boss in the bossfight (and apparently I wasn't even supposed to do that ?)

Pretty fun at the end, but I barely did any sidequest yet

Did you find it on the lake or did you pay for it?

I grabbed it in the middle of the lake. Don't think I've actually bought it from the merchant before.

Fought my way to the cabin - more intense than I remembered. Cleared that, and beat Mendez. Now I'm in the castle coutyard wondering if I should buy the broken butterfly magnum or save my pesetas.

Robocop: Rogue City
I'm actually enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. I like being able to roam the streets, solving odd jobs, and dealing with minor crimes. The combat is satisying and the game looks and runs well on PC.

I am playing my annual run of Earthbound on the SNES currently. This is still such a special game. They really don't make them like this any more.

Front Mission 3 Remake on Switch 2. Just completed the Ba Kui Dam battle, managed to maintain stealth after 2x tries, killed all the enemy Mechas fast enough without giving them time to call any reinforcement Recorded it.

In the original game only the Enemy missileer mecha that could call for backup if I recall correctly, now every enemy Mecha could call for backup as long it's pass turn 7. Making it harder.

Picked up kingdom come deliverance from somewhere recently (probably a psn sale) and I was remembering it had a controversial release. So I'm looking up info and clicked on an article from our sister site about the whole issue.

Holy shit, it was funny. I only looked at the 1st and last page but almost everyone was banned from the forum; people arguing for and against kcd were gone.

Id heard good things about the sequel so I'm gonna fire up the original this weekend.

I had no idea that it had released already. Just bought it, can't wait to dive into some wanzer goodness when I'm done with the current game. 🥳

How's the remake in general? Did they do a satisfactory job?

The 3d graphic upgrades and Mecha animations during Realtime 3d cutscenes are alright enough. And the small 3d character models are alright too. Minus the AI stuff they used on the network 2d artwork thing and some 2d backgrounds, the rest are alright enough, including combat animations, weapon particle effects, damage effects, 3d environment effects and textures, lighting, etc imo, fun enough for me. Gameplay wise am enjoying it! and that's the most important thing for me.

Started a replay of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart on PC. It legit looks like a Pixar movie maxed out!
But omg not having dual sense haptics is such a letdown… Just went with default settings so I don't know what can be tweaked but I'm not holding my breath that a Xbox Series controller can do something cool in this game. Normally I don't think the haptics add much but in this game it truly does. Did the first Glitch segment and I can't believe how lacking it feels. I guess I need to play this wired.

Sweet, thanks for the feedback. The network stuff isn't a huge deal to me. I usually spend as little time in there as I can get away with. No way they had the budget to redo all the artwork by hand, the alternative would be to cut it/scale it waaay back.

The rest seems like what I'd expect. The gameplay in the OG is goated, so I'm glad they didn't mess anything up there. 🤖

Someone posted about this game in a different thread and I can't remember their name, but I'm glad I saw the post. I don't think I've played many games like this before. It's got this sorta weird charm to it. It seems pretty basic - going through these little dungeons in search of keys, hacking away at pretty standard fantasy enemies like skeles and goblins, and getting new equipment and magic. There's something I really like about it which I can't put my finger on.

I've been working my way through THPS3 in the 3+4 remake. I finished all the challenges and grabbed all the collectables. I wanted to put down my thoughts prior to tackling THPS4 as that seems like where most of the cuts and changes have occurred. I loved THPS 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast. I was naturally excited for THPS3 to arrive on the PS2 and then all the glowing reviews came in and my hype went to eleven. And then I played it. A bit of series fatigue may have played a part, but I really didn't care for the level design or the addition of moves that allowed you to more easily link combos together. And here I am some twenty plus years later with a feeling of deja vu, having loved the 1+2 remake to pieces (and still booting it up from time to time just to do a run or two) and THPS3 leaving me a bit cold. The level design just doesn't do it for me and I think part of it is the increased density of objects exposes some of the flaws in movement which can lead to you feeling a bit like a pinball in a dense sea of bumpers. I don't expect my opinion to improve much with THPS4 as that certainly wasn't my favorite either and that was before the cuts and redesign. I only played a few hours of THUG before abandoning the series, but ironically I'd like to see a THUG collection as at least it would be a new experience and I know there is fondness for those titles.

Resident Evil 4 Remake
I've played through about 5-6 times on the Base PS5, but I have a new PC and I wanted to play something that looks good, and boy does it. Not sure what has impressed me more - the actual visuals or just how good it feels to have better frame rate. On the actual game itself, I think I like it more than the original, which is one of my favourite games of all time. The knife and parry is a great addition to the game and the couple of locations I don't like in the original have been greatly improved.

P.S Anyone able to recommend some visually impressive games to play? Thought about picking up Robocop in the Steam sale.

Haaa I just went through the thing with the new pc. Where my next game has to have great graphics lol. I went with indiana jones. Looked awesome. Pretty fun, too.

I just got a steamdeck and playing a bunch of stuff. I'm focusing on quantum break, and beyond two souls at the moment. But basically switching between so many stuff in my library.

Witcher 3.
Utterly intoxicating.
I did a couple of hundred hours in the base game, years ago, then barely scratched the surface of Blood and wine.
I dropped it for some reason or other (most likely because I didn't want to finish it because obviously that'd be that)
Started from scratch with the Ps5 upgrade, and it's utterly magnificent.
Great to play on a balmy summers eve, by candlelight, for that extra cosy atmos.

System Shock 2 on PS5.

Aside from the cumbersome controller controls I'm loving this game as much as I did back when I first played. Perhaps even a bit more now as I'm more familiar with the gameplay.

It will always be a mystery to me why immersive sims usually always fail. Such a great genre. Great level design, great story, great exploration.

Finished The Callisto Protocol. Second playthrough. I don't care what anyone says, this is a great survival horror game. The graphics are incredible. Probably the best looking game to date with some insane motion capture and facial animation. The melee combat makes for an interesting approach to killing monsters. It makes the combat scenarios up close and personal amd there's real weight to the punches. The game doesn't overstay its welcome and ends on a somewhat reasonable conclusion, although it's clear that the devs definitely had a sequel in mind. Gonna try out the DLC The final transmission and see if delivers a satisfying end to this underrated horror gem.

Just finished the System Shock 2 remaster.

I've really liked it! Glad to finally get to play this one. The exploration and atmosphere are pretty cool all around, they make it very easy for the player to feel immersed in it's corridors and rooms, and more often than not you are rewarded for exploring every nook and cranny. Combat could be way better but hey, it's an RPG from 2000 so I think it's fine, as your stats, weapon and ammo type matter much more than you skill.

Something I didn't try at all was the psionic powers. Instead I made my character proficent with most weapon types while also being good at hacking and maintaining. No points at all were spent on Repair nor Modify either and honestly I think I did the right thing, didn't miss those at all. Played on Hard and overall the game felt quite easy, only dying a few times and mostly because of things like falling damage or eating my own grenade. :goog_relieved:

Last part of the game was very cool and kinda crazy, which is a nice change of pace coming from SS1 and it's shitty ending and "final boss". Sadly this one ends in a cliffhanger and something's telling me that SS3 won't be happening any time soon, but oh well!

I hear you, I think THPS2 was the best one by far. Something about later games didn't sit with me back in the day, and with the changes to 4 and the soundtrack I don't really have a lot of ambition to revisit it. Maybe if it's really cheap one day.

I'm having the opposite problem, just did an upgrade and all I've played on my rig is old games. Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Planetside 2. I picked up a bunch of things in the Steam sale and am planning to play Cyberpunk 2077 soonish, once I have a good chunk of time to dedicate to it.

Not only does the remake have a pinball level but it also allows you to go skitchin' using traffic. All the Tony Hawks prior to 4 had the car bump you off. Now you can even do it in THPS3 levels. While I think THPS4's levels suffer from what you described, I think most of THPS3's levels are easily better than those found in THPS2.

P.S. The game has many tutorials for mechanics that you can look up. I at one point consulted one to find out what the hell a Boneless trick is.

Just installing Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 as i write this. Don't know what to expect. Question: Are there good possibilities to design your character with different skills?

I'm through 7/9 of THPS4 levels now and I prefer these levels to THPS3 but they just don't compare to THPS2. Don't really need tutorials, the controls are burned into my central processing unit and not likely to ever be forgotten.

I'm kind of just killing time until Donkey Kong releases. So I'm still just plugging away with No Man's Sky on the Switch 2.

This might not fall into technically "playing" but I am watching Event Horizon (1997) for the first time ever, apparently it is rated as one of the most underrated sci-fi movies of all time, but also the fact that this film was a major inspiration for Dead Space which was a decade later....(2007/8) USG Ishimura meet Event Horizon, the forefather of it all... :messenger_grinning_smiling:
The movie was good, but the ending was a bit "meh" still was worth the watch though...

Finally wrapping up Dragon Quest XI. I had put a chunk of time into it back when it was released but then just dropped it for years. Finally picked it back up a few months ago and I only have the final fight left to do.

I don't get nearly as much time these days to commit to long RPGs so it feels good on the rare occasion I can complete one.

Clair Obscur is next!

Trying to finish some PS3/PS21 games before the machine (PS3) kicks the bucket. That thing sounds like a jet engine when taxed.

Playing some maligned games that are actually quite good. I'm intrigued buy what is considered a bad game and have to try to find something in it that I like.
Wet (never understand the hate for this one, it's like Max Payne on Steroids). Maybe people weren't going to accept a female gunslinger at the time?
Golden Axe: Beast Rider (Not bad at all, Hard as f**K though)
Started: Unlimited Saga, holy crap the graphics are beautiful. Can't believe Square brought every single Saga game to Steam and then I think decided there done for now. WTF!!! Get this on Steam Square!!!

To do/Finish:
Rouge Ops
Alias
Dark Angel
Sakura Wars
Stolen

Let the flaming begin, I will find it humorous.

Made some good progress in the story. I've just arrived at Eagle Mountain and the enemies are considerably tougher. Not in terms of difficulty, but the fact they've got way more HP. I've also just found a thunder spell to go along with my fire and ice spells. The ice spell is pretty good here as there's a lot of fire salamanders roaming around.

Juggling a lot lately:
-Completed DS2
-Completed Xenoblade 1
-Completed Metroid Dread
-Completed Super Metroid

Currently playing:
-Metroid Prime Remastered
-Dead Space Remake
-Metroid Fusion
-Xenoblade 2

Hoping I can knock out both metroids and DSR before WuChang.

Edit: Shit. DKB next week. Maybe I can wrap up one of the Metroids at least lol.

Picked up romancing saga 2 on a big discount... Must resist starting another massive RPG while I haven't finished expedition 33 and trails through daybreak 2 yet...

Still enjoying Tyranny on PC, what a great game. Obsidian at their best, Dead fire is a close second for me. Think I am getting close to the end of Hellslave now, decent indie game

-Completed Xenoblade 1
Going to be finishing this up in the next day or two.

It's absolutely a masterpiece, but there are some pacing issues, especially when you get to Mechonis. I also question the design decision of locking everyone's last skill tree to quests that can only be completed after Mechonis Core.

I'm almost 60 hours into the game already and have just completed Mechonis Core. I just want to reach the end so I really can't be bothered to jump through the hoops to open those skill trees. There's also zero chance of me completing any post-game stuff, beyond the DLC. I'm sure it's good content, I just have way too many other games to play.

Probably moving on to Death Stranding 2 after I wrap up Xenoblade.

I'm also working my way through Nekopara Volume 1 in Japanese to increase my fluency. Wouldn't be my normal pick for a VN, but the language is easy and it's almost entirely fully voiced.

Once I hit the boss that is level 72 and everything, myself included, was 65 I just said fuck it and turned on casual mode.

The game has atrocious gameplay. I powered to the ending, and the story, characters, music all carry this game. The side quests, combat, leveling, etc are abysmal.

6/10 for me. Xeno 2 so far is leagues ahead of this.

Also, the dlc is apparently not important? It's another 10 hours too so I'm just going to YT recap it later. Just focuses on Melia.

Finished up THPS4 (3+4) last night. It's left me completely cold much like the original did back in the day.

Still roaming around the open world in Mario Kart World and finding Peach Coins and P-Switch Challenges.

Got through the intro of FFIX coincidently to its' anniversary. The battles move so slowly.

Yeah, I did the same thing with casual mode at the same point.

Like I said, the game has pacing issues, especially when it comes to leveling. Until you reach Mechonis you're basically at the level you need to be if you do the main quests and complete a few sidequests, but once you reach Mechonis the pacing and leveling gets all fu*ked up.

Still a 9/10 for me based on story alone.

As for the DLC, I thought it helped to tie the game in with Xenoblade 2 and 3, especially the DLC for 3. Maybe I'm wrong about that?

Unsure. I'll watch a recap today. Google was saying it doesn't go with anything? But maybe it's outdated. I know Xeno 2 dlc and 3 dlc are both necessaryX

So I finally managed to push through the main story in Star Rail this weekend, since I've mostly been grinding ongoing events, archived ones, and clearing side quests from previously completed zones this past month.

Anyway, I'm happy I wrapped up the third act of Penacony because, man, the 2.2 story has been peak fiction!

Finishing up THPS7 but thought this game would have more lasting appeal than this. Maybe the pro goals will be inspiring but gaming has changed and Tony Hawk loses a lot of what makes it fun after you complete each level.

Want to plan MonTrain 2 but I haven't in a week or two but my stepsons are hooked and whenever I'm wanting to play it, they're playing it.

Free roaming and Knockout Touring off and on until Bananza comes out.

How many of us just biding our time til Bananza?

Getting my ass handed to me by the first challenging boss fight in Hollow Knight and taking a break >_<

*edit* taking a break with The Mummy Demastered. A metroidvania lite with lots of run and gun and beatable in 5 hours. $1.66 well spent *hugs fanatical*

Pokémon Scarlet.

This is extremely surprising, but the game is actually super fun to play, all the details nice touches made to the UI are fantastic. And it really shines on the Switch 2… as a 3DS emulation. But still, I'm glad I discovered the game this way.

It is very surprising to see the game updated for free like this

Demon's souls

Continued. Completed the main story (PS3). Really great environmental storytelling, art direction and atmosphere. I'll reiterate how neat the exploration aspect is. Archstone 5 was well done in terms of eerieness. Probably the most uneasy of all locations. Got some mild Drakengard 1 vibes there. That said, that's how you do an mysterious, unnerving build-up and self-contained story quest. I gotta say, after looking up how they handled the remake in comparison, while its definitely got an undeniable graphical boost, it missed to capture much of the original aesthetic and enigmatic atmosphere from my pov. The original had this hollowing and foreboding tone to it which seems to have been lost in translation.

Just an observation, but Japanese developers/artists tend to have a really interesting way of reinterpreting concepts from the central European medieval period, both low and high.

In the midst of NG+ mode now. Already beat a batch of bosses (1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, 4-1 and 4-2). Currently, at Soul level 102. Focused on getting the remaining unlockables atm. Going for platinum. Bummer the online component isn't in operation. Anyway, looking forward to maybe tackling Dark souls and Bloodborne at some point after finally having dipped the toes into this genre.
