Mario 64 (render96)

This port is incredible. It's like playing the box art. I played this game to death back in the day, to the point that it had no life anymore... so it's been a long time… I had forgotten how interesting some of the decisions made in this game were. It's kind of an open world game and I'm actually getting some GTA vibes weirdly enough.

Also, I miss Miyamoto directing. Mario 64 was surreal. It wasn't quite this cartoony direction that it is now.

Can someone explain to me briefly just what the fuck kind of a game Choo Choo Charles is?

- Is it single player or asynchronous MP?
- Does it have a plot etc, or is it one of those aimless survival games?
- Will I enjoy it as a solo experience?

Super fun indie. Love it.
  1. Fully Single Player
  2. Plot is basically killing the monster train, main story is very short, speedruns are like an hour or less. There's decent amount of side story to get paints/customization. Expect 4-5 hours of gameplay to do everything.
  3. See Point 1
It's a lite-action horror RPG. Gameplay loop is basically do side quests, get scrap to upgrade your train, evade Charles or machine gun it's face, explore for paints for your train or achievements, repeat till you kill it. There's some stealth to enter lairs to destroy Charles eggs (main story) which is guarded by cultists but imo stealth is bad, just kill lol. I really liked driving my train.

Super fun apart from one last achievement that I'm stuck to get 100% - beat the game in permadeath mode in nightmare difficulty. lol

Borderlands 4 is coming soon so I started replaying Borderlands 2 again but with all DLC and finally at 120fps, I remember playing this at <60fps lowest with my shitty hardware.

Right off, the combat after playing Borderlands 3 is something hard to get used to, it's decent but Gearbox cooked really hard with 3's combat/gameplay, imo Borderlands 3 is one of the best FPS titles out there. The story, characters on the other hand are much better in 2. Graphics are quite dated, I do love the sharp look of 3, which helps a lot to spot enemies in this cell shaded world unlike 2 which has a quite a bit of haze/blurry textures.

I plan to complete the game with all it's DLCs in ultra vault hunter (this is NG+2) so it's a long road for me lol, I have picked Salvatore, I like the tankyness and according the the borderlands community this is the easiest class for ultra. I found some old shift code and now have like 150 golden keys in the game lol, just going to use these until I get legendaries.

After this, I'll replay/complete Borderlands 3 with DLC in uvh, never played the DLCs so, long long road ahead lol. (and probably will complete Tiny Tina's Wonderland, I got the dlcs so there's a new class I wanna replay the game with).

Agreed. From a gameplay perspective it's a worthy sequel to BL2 that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. Smooth gunplay, nice gore, countless improvements to the gameplay that make it somewhat hard to go back to the 7th gen titles.
I expect BL4 to be more of a leap gameplay wise as the first proper 9th gen installment.

Finished Death Stranding 2.
About to go on vacation- so im not committing to anything outside of short experiences. MLB 25, NBA 2K, Mario Kart World, and some short sessions of Donkey Kong Bonanza. Will probably stay that way until Metal Gear releases next month.

Fucking nothing lol. Mostly working on my game while gazing at my library of games wondering what to play next.

It's true what they say, having too much to chose from lends to choice paralysis.

GTA V
I haven't progressed too far into the story. The last mission I finished was the one where you 'rescue' Michael's daughter from the guys on the boat. Mostly been driving around listening to custom music and doing some of the stranger events. Game looks great on PC.

Wuchang: Fallen Feather
Love the environments, combat, music and level design. Picked up a couple of spells early on which are both effective and fun to use. I've got myself a one handed sword, longsword, spear, club and axe, and right now I'm mainly using the one handed sword. Only downside is the performance on the base PS5 is pretty rough.

Still Cyberpunk 2077/Phantom Liberty, got the platinum trophy yesterday but the throwable weapons + katana build is insanely fun. Need a new game soon.

Finally finished the last few hours of Ghost of Tsushima this week, trying to clear my backlog out here. Probably FF7:Rebirth next in the queue for completion, then Horizon Forbidden West.

Currently Playing:

AI The Somnium Files (Switch) – Bought this on sale on the eShop for like 4 dollars. (Partly because I was interested I the upcoming release in the series). WOW what a cool game, great story, puzzles can be very abstract, lots of little details, Kaname Date and Aiba are both really cool characters. Just completed this one last night (All paths)

Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) – This one really is something special, the destructible environments, amount of hidden items, great controls/move set of DK. Story is pretty interesting as well. BY only gripe at about 10hours in is the Auto Centering camera.. really wish that could be turned off.

Still messing around (going back to) with:

Mario Kart World (Switch 2)

Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma (Switch 2)

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforge

I have a massive nostalgia boner for this game. I played it first as a teenager when it released on PSX back in 95 I think and I loved it. It was such a different experience to what I was used to and going on an adventure with George Stobbart and Nico Collard was so much fun. The game really captured my heart. And it still does time and time again. I´ve bought this game countless times. I had the GBA version, the mobile version, I bought the Directors Cut on PC and I also had the original versions on PC on disc. And now I bought Reforge on Switch and it is beautiful. Looks so good with the new repainted backgrounds and characters. The funny thing is that the game is exactly as I remembered it when I played it in the 90s, but when you switch to the original graphics you immediately see how much has changed and how much is improved. It´s a testament to the talent of Revolution, to recreate the game as close to the original as possible while improving graphics and QoL. Reforged is the ultimate version of the game, very true to the spirits of the original. It´s so good to finally have it physical on Switch.

Robocop Rogue City - I like this game a lot but wish it had a bigger budget and went full immersive sim. Combat and headshots are immensely satisfying.

Tears of the 60fps, I do basic stuff, talking to people, catching a horse, cooking, activating towers, and it's fantastic. I'm used to rush the main quest and then close the game (I do that for Cyberpunk for eg, already in Act 3), but now I want to take my time somehow

Just platinumed Death Stranding. I had no real interest, but I randomly got the urge to check it out for some reason. I ended up loving it. I can't even explain why, as on paper, it still sounds like I should hate it.

I'm now playing Visions of Mana, which is exactly what I expected and is "fine".

No big triple A developer would have done it, and if they did, it would have been a half-baked edition...or have a lot more bugs, or a paywall behind it of some sort...it takes the smaller developers out there in order to get a modern day Die Hard trilogy, because none of the big studios would know how to do it well...

Everspace 2
I binned the game off. It has lots of little issues, that all build up. Once again, the huge difficulty spikes were a big deal for me ditching it.

Animal Well
I think this is the game I've ever played where you can use a slinky to solve puzzles ...

I just finished playing God of War (2018). Was sitting in my backlog for way too long. Great game. Hated Atreus. Was begging Kratos to pull a Calliope on him.
Can't decide what to play next. My son got me Fire Emblem 3 Houses for my birthday a couple years ago and I never played it. I feel bad because he goes to college half way across the country and asks me if I played it yet every time I see him... which is only like 2 or 3 times a year. Leaning toward finally jumping in to that one.
So over 2 years after I made this post, I finally played through 3 Houses this week. Now I'm working on God of War: Ragnarök since one of my OTHER kids got that for me this year for my birthday.
My son that got me 3 houses is now graduated from college and still lives halfway across the country. We had a long 1 AM texting session about Fire Emblem after I finished up the story. I think he was happy I finally played it.

DK Bananza

It's good. I'm in the Lagoon Layer still. How do I unlock the Stuff Shop here? Spoilers are cool but please tag them accordingly for the benefit of others.

And why can't I find the OT anywhere? I am probably being goofy as usual...

Monster Hunter 1 Japan and Monster Hunter G (Playstation 2)
Rediscovering the series' ground level roots. Using the PSP controls Plus patch on real PS2 hardware.

These games are no joke and not for the faint of heart. Just finding herbs and crafting potions is a true grind. In comparison to the new games in the series that hand out piles of items for free at every turn. Im sitting here in MH1 trying to time the cooking of food perfectly because I have no stamina left to finish the mission. Rathalos and Diablo are a legit insane challenge at first. But the series extremely fun gameplay staple of learning their patterns and openings has been there from the jump.

Im amazed at how many animations and monster traits were there from the very beginning. To Rathian's moveset - to breaking off monster horns and tails.
I finished all the 1p quests in MH1 and carried over my save to MHG. Its been an absolute blast - and the high difficulty of it all is what makes it all the more worthwhile to me.

I have some tips for this, try creating a "now playing" playlist with only 10 games or so…

when you finished said game take it out of the list and insert another game to fill the hole.

I've been shredding through my steam backlog with this method, helps you to stay focused instead of constantly browsing my 500+ game library

Will be playing Oblivion again this weekend and finally tackling Shivering Isles.

I dipped into yesterday for a bit and am not really feeling it. Should have played this back at release. Feel like I'm lttp… But lets see, that may change.

For the first time ever I am investing in an expansion HD drive for any console that I've had, (this is for the Series X) because outside of the backlog, there are some great deals on their sale which is going until next week, ie Sleeping Dogs, which has had a HUGE discount, and I've barely got any room to add that in amongst all the other titles I still have to get through! (ie complete the 2017 sci-fi thriller, Observation, Mad Max, Force Unleashed 1 and 2, Robocop, eventually Cyberpunk if I buy it on Sale,) I've still yet to finish Indiana Jones, I am also interested at some point buying the "Invincibles" as that looks interesting too..

Still playing KCD2, 95hrs, PS5 Base.

Huge jump from KCD1, what a masterpiece.
But I'm looking for the next one, probably Death Stranding 2 or a title with a small size between those two.

I know. I am saying I wish that this game was just a bit more ambitious from what it was. I finished the game today and it delivered a lot and all the elements were there but ultimately you can see where they had to cheap out.

It's interesting that game devs are now far more capable of making updates to these older properties than Hollywood is.

Exactly, in both instances this game and the latest Indiana Jones game were better than the last movie releases in these franchise, and I think that would be the case with a Die Hard game, more so as we won't get another live-action installment of it
(*Also forgot to add Alien Isolation being better than Covenant)

Resident Evil 4 Remake
Nearing the end of the castle. This is the most improved area of the remake, in my opinion.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Just beat the big tree boss. Really enjoying this despite the performance issues. Still primarily using one handed sword and magic. I love the look of the armor in this; I'm using the centipede armor and it looks fantastic.

7.5 hours into Stronghold Definitive Edition. What can i say besides that i love the game although i'm not the biggest RTS fan there is but it's really fun and cheap on sale for 5 bucks.

SMTV Vengeance on Ps5.
It's pretty fun so far, the quality of life improvements compared to previous entries are pretty cool, and the demon fusing is as addictive as ever. The combat itself is great like usual and I like how many unique attack animations they have now.
I did like the setting, story and art direction a lot more in SMTIV though. And visually it's quite ugly, specially outside of combat, it's not really the graphics which are the issue but just the ugly filters that make everything looked kinda washed out. Also the anime run of the main character looks silly as fuck.

But overall enjoying my time with it even if it isn't quite everything I wanted it to be.

Popped in some LoK Defiance after recently playing Soul Reaver 1+2 Remastered. Kinda hard going back to the PS2 textures but emulation and a texture pack or two makes it a bit more palatable.

In general, while this is a *MUCH* better game than Blood Omen 2, it's still a big drop in quality compared to Soul Reaver 2.

Same, and I loved V as well but IV is just on another level. Story and scenario for that game were written by Kazuma Kaneko who's also the main demon designer in SMT although he's been missing for years until he revealed to be working on some AI slop card game or some shit like that. Truly sad to see but the point is, we might never see anything on the level of SMT IV again.

I just hope the next one goes back to the cyberpunk setting, love that shit.

If you were playing on PC, I would suggest mods. There are a few, including a female MC mod that greatly improve the look of the MC

I'm on Ps5 sadly.
I don't really mind the look of the MC, and I like how he can learn quite a few unique attacks with cool unique animations.
But the anime running with the arms hanging back just looks dumb as fuck.

Yeah I've only played 3, 4 and now 5 but 4 is easily my favorite.
Loved the cyberpunk inspired setting, and that whole opening segment where you start in a more fantasy inspired area and you then descend into post apocalyptic Tokyo was really cool.
I even found the story pretty compelling. It's not like the story is ever the main appeal of SMT, but I found myself invested in the plot of 4 while in 3 and 5 I'm really just here for the gameplay.

Yeah 3 and 5 sure are on the minimalistic side when it comes to story.

If you liked IV I'd recommend you checkout both Strange Journey and Digital Devil Saga. Both have very interesting stories and characters, and the setting is specially cool in both games. Strange Journey has some sci-fi vibes while DDS has some of that plus lots of hindu stuff.

I'm thinking about finally diving into KCD1 (and eventually 2).

Are there any must-have mods for the game? I seem to remember reading about a few that didn't really impact gameplay but reduced annoyances

KCD2 is fine without mods.

For KCD1 I remember using one that removed the collision box in bushes (probably this one) since that shit was super annoying when riding the horse. You could also use a mod for saving anywhere (not really needed imo) and another one to have a crosshair when using the bow, which I think I did end up using.

Have fun, take them slow and if possible, play on hardcore mode.
