What game are you currently playing?

Doom Eternal. At first I was disappointed coming to it straight from Doom 2016, but I think I'm getting the hang of what it's going for now. Combat is a puzzle where ammo/health/armor pickups are scarce so you gotta rip and tear to pinata the enemies to earn them.

The combat encounters are exhilarating and end RIGHT before they get exhausting.

I wish enemies didn't vanish after dying. This seems like a perfect game to have the Hotline Miami thing where after you win an encounter, you walk through all the viscera you caused.

The First Berserker: Khazan - I finished my first playthrough of this, clocked it just over 40 hours. I did all side quests, but I've not read up on any multiple endings so I'm not sure which, of any available, I received. What a fantastic game! I absolutely loved the combat feel, the animation, everything. It consistently had my jaw dropped with story moments and epic goings on. About my only complaint is that the locations are all very same-y. Like, you're almost always in a ruined castle or a cave. However, it fit with what was going on with the story, so I can't complain too much. I really, REALLY hope this does well enough for a sequel. One of my favorite games of the year.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers - I started this up the day after finishing Khazan, but I'm putting it back on the shelf, for now at least. It looks great, but after Khazan the flow of combat/movement is just too stilted and I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it. My fault for starting another Soulslike as soon as I finished another. There are a lot of technical issues as well, so I'll hold off on this one for a bit, but I'm definitely going back to it.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition - I have a massive Switch backlog, and I'm finally getting around to playing this. I started it back on the Wii and never finished, and then when the Switch DE released, I started it again, and yet again fell off it. I've even went and beaten Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which I loved! So, despite having a bunch of new Switch 2 games, this is what I'm obsessed with now on the Switch 2. I'm about 30 hours in and am in love with it, so I'll definitely finish it this time.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound - Bought this yesterday on PC, and am having a blast. Really well done old school style!

I'd recommend sticking around at least until the cultists base level. That's were the game truly clicks imo.

1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses. First SRPG. Blue Lions. Hard/Classic. Bit over twenty hours in. Loving it (but not for the monastery parts necessarily). Always wanted to get into SRPGs. Have quite a few but this is the furthest I've gotten in one.

2. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Sucker for souls slop. What can I say?

3. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. My childhood is back.

4. Earthion (haven't assaactually started it yet). Love me a shmup.

Didn't finish Scorn nor Dredge :D just not for me. Started and finished Dying Light and What Remains of Edith Finch
Also Played and finished Outlast 2 and GRIS. Nowstarted Playing, Hunt Showdown (MP game), Little Nightmares 2 and Dishonored 2

Animal Well
Finished this. Loved it. It's a really, really weird game, though. I think this is the first time I've ever used a slinky to solve puzzles in a video game. I had to look up the final 10 eggs, and some of the puzzles were clearly designed to encourage collaboration in the player community, as there's no way in hell a single person could work that all out themselves (well, not in any reasonable time frame).

I just finished DK Bananza and MY GOD the final boss and the end was soooo good!

I still I want more, thankfully there nice post game stuff to satisfy me.

My personal GOTY.

Figured it was time to check in, it's been a while. On PS5, I've been diving into Death Stranding 2, and I'm absolutely loving it. It's been getting most of my attention lately. Over on PC, I haven't been up to much, mostly sticking with Star Citizen. My recent rotation includes Raidou, Expedition 33, Date Everything, Stellar Blade, and Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Death Stranding is an absolute masterpiece, and I'm hoping to keep enjoying it for a while longer. Star Citizen is still my jam, but lately it's been driving me up the wall. CIG keeps running these events that always seem to feature broken mechanics, elevators that never work, for example. It's been frustrating enough that I've decided to put it down for a bit and focus on other games while they fix their shit.

I hit a game-halting save bug in Doom Eternal on the penultimate level. I think I'm done. The checkpoint I went back to is after hitting a switch to open a gate needed for progress, but the gate is closed. And I can't restart the mission as a workaround because the game won't save any new/updated progress now. Sucks, because I was having fun but can't find a way around it.

So I tried out Doom: The Dark Ages, but going from 4k 120fps Doom Eternal to 4k ~50fps in TDA is so distracting...Wish there was a way to disable ray tracing.

Just idling at the moment. I'm 5 hours into Stellar Blade and not sure whether I want to continue or not. I'm not feeling interested in the characters or story. I'm running around doing side-quests that feel like pointless busywork to me. We'll see.

Now if only Capcom give us a new Strider (2014 was pretty fun all things considered) i can die a happy man

I just started playing CO E33. While it seems like an excellent game and I want to keep playing I am not sure where the auto-GOTY and all that is coming from.

The story and characters are kind of dopey in Stellar Blade, although it does get slightly more interesting later. You really play it for the combat and Eve and all that

Beat death stranding 2. While I'm waiting for my copy of donkey Kong bananza to arrive, I started playing berserk and the band of the hawk.

Astro Bot
I went back to this to get the remaining trophies (3 challenges, and 1 regular). Took me 2 hours to hit the platinum, with at least 90 minutes of that trying to do the Grand Master Challenge. Hard as hell, but the euphoria when I finally got to the end was worth it.

Just finished tears of the kingdom on switch 2. It was awesome the ending in particular is fucking great. It has been a while that a Nintendo game hadn't impressed me. But this game did. I finished botw last month I enjoyed both a lot. Could not stop until I beat them both. I will pick up DS2z later this month.

Destiny 2; more accessible than before but I use google sometimes. First time playing destiny at 60 fps so it plays nicely. Graphics are a bit outdated though. Its silly that they called it destiny 2. Its just more of the exact same.

Cod bops 6; for silly multiplayer fps dose. I don't play hardcore mode anymore so ttk feels right, gun fights are more enjoyable that way.

Bf 4; it still looks beautiful. First time playing with ultra graphics. I would pay for a new dlc for this, no need for a new game, but probably they can't monetize this.

Prehistorik; one of the best 2d platformers, playing it on miyoo mini plus.

Xcom 2; played it a bit on switch, performance was ok, I want to play some more.

Penny's big break away demo; it was cool but penguin thing was irritating.

I will play wuchang? after destiny 2.

Try skipping the sidequests, they are painful.

Xcom 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. There are few things as satisfying as killing an advent soldier in this game.
Anyways Firaxis is long overdue with a sequel to XCom 2.
Xcom enemy unknown was my favourite. It was simple and fun. Then I bought the dlc and it made things more complex and harder, so I dropped it. And I just can't get into the second game— this is my second time trying it. This time I decided to skip the tutorial, let's see how it goes.

Heartworm (demo)
Excellent PS1-style survival horror. Great atmosphere, solid combat and gameplay mechanics - pretty much a mix of Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Going to buy it for sure.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
I'm up to 3-4. Having a blast. Just a blast to play.

Mortuary Assistant
The concept is excellent and the execution matches. So very creepy.

Nier Automata. Took a big fat hit of weed before playing the boss of the amusement park and got a little teary eyed during the fight, with the music bumping loud asf from my stereo. Felt like a magical experience. Game is so good.

Astro Bot - having a blast.
Donkey Kong Bananza - good and sometimes great game. Not sure if I'm going to complete it.
Majora's Mask 3DS - at last I beat it. 3ds is such a great console.
Gears of War 3 on Xbox X - it's great, looks great, plays great and on X it looks like remastered. I started to play on X360 and switched - amazing difference.
Tomb Raider 2013 Definitive edition - I just love all Tomb Raider games - the old ones, survivor series - everything. TR2013 is one on my favorite game. BTW Cory Barlog was a cinematic director. Amazing game. Can't wait for new main game.

Yeah, I'm getting that sense. I do enjoy the visuals - Eve in particular, of course, but also the other characters, the effects during combat, and so forth. I half-enjoy the combat. It's punchy but also kind of repetitive after a while.

Try skipping the sidequests, they are painful.

Yes, I think that's a good idea. I've started doing that. Even the main story seems to plod along fairly slowly, and the sidequests drag the pace down further.

Thanks for the input, guys. It's certainly a looker, and I can see why action fans would like it. Not sure it's my cup of tea, but I'll stick with it for a while longer.

gnome 48 upgrade screwed up some shit on my tablet. Controller issues, in particular. but also hangups and crashes. some of these were new games to me and some i know worked before the update. how shitty. Its great for touch and drawing but they are too willing to break shit. maybe ill try a different de because im not it the mood to start trying other distros atm.

Played a couple games this weekend during the downtime for Evo (that is, when games were streaming that I didn't care about):

Blade Chimera

The latest title from Team Ladybug, a Metroidvania their own, entirely original creation. And... it kinda sucks. Like with their other games, it looks gorgeous. Pristine pixel art over an attractive aesthetic - in this case, a cyberpunk look that more than one person has said looks kinda early SMTish. The central gimmick is that you have a magic sword that can be used creating a barrier (that can also absorb damage to be restored to the player), be shot into walls to create platforms, and temporarily turn back time to open pathways and help with puzzles. And that you have guns in addition to the usual melee weapons.

Unfortunately the execution is fumbled on nearly every front. The game does almost nothing with any of its ideas - usually introducing something and then rarely bringing it up again or coming up with additional layers of complexity. Enemies tend to be spongy, even with better gear. Progression (i.e. double jump, hi-jump) is locked behind level up rather than campaign progression, which both enables you to skip what puzzles there are if you pump your skill points into movement abilities and means that story progression just consists of unlocking doors, which is kinda boring. You get an ability to warp anywhere you've been on the map before from anywhere, but this generally just kinda kills tension. The OST is fine but such a big step down from Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth's glorious, frenetic dances.

The cardinal sin imo is no hit stun invincibility where boss fights, especially the later ones, are clearly designed for it due to gravity pulling abilities, fast moving hitboxes that ram the player, and prolonged and wide series of AOEs (that knock you into other AOEs). I'd played most of the game without healing items, but the third act's fights broke me. The final boss in particular is very easy to go from 100 to death on and I just noped out and full stocked on healing to chug in the menu. There's also a couple hamfisted play sections - a brief stealth section as a dog, and a long and slow crawl (and I mean that literally as even the base movement speed is reduced by like... 30? 40%?) across most of the map as a depowered version of the player meant to tie into the story that get an enthusiastic thumbs down from me.

My Team Ladybug tier list:

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth (fantastic)
Drainus (pretty good)
Touhou Luna Nights (whatever; I don't see what people love about this... and I barely even remember it)
Blade Chimera (nah)

Super Hot

Simple, almost framework FPS which focuses instead on puzzle-solving by allowing you to slow down time to survive encounters against a gauntlet of enemies who can all one-shot you. A friend had asked me to play this for years and I decided fuck it. It's really fun. The ""story"" interludes are kinda dumb and lose their luster after the first few interruptions, but the core gameplay has just enough legs to last the few hours run time the game has. The final segment was particularly demanding and had me resetting a few dozen times to survive.

My buddy and I purchased Nightreign since they recently added Duos. After being pretty cold on the beta, I'm having a surprising amount of fun though we are getting our ass kicked by the first Nightlord. RNG can be a real mofo in the game as can the target locking.

Still playing Monkey Kong and having a good time. I think my overall perception of the game has cooled as I'm coming to the realization of how Nintendo married a classic collectathon with modern design tropes (skill trees, gear with stat bonusses) to make the insane amount of collectables feel meaningful even if they are generally unnecessary.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers
Battlefeels 4 + Alcohol
My Favorite Combo

I got invited to the Battlefield 6 beta for the 7th tho
Not sure I'll even bother, probly pass the controller to my sister so she can knife someone

Played through Mouthwashing yesterday.
As far as walking sims go it was fun, well written and with a cool visual style, well worth a playthrough. But I couldn't help being a bit underwhelmed by the end, I guess after hearing a lot of positive buzz about it over the last year I set my expectations too high.

Been on a war game kick since July 4th weekend. Feeling patriotic. Beat MoH, Underground, Frontline, Pacific Assault (all 4/5 games), rage quit European Assault (2/5), barely made it through Vanguard that fell off hard at the end (3/5), and LOVED 2010 (5/5)

Now started on the COD journey. Classic was an easy 4/5 on PS3 and Finest Hour on PS2 is a lot of fun so far! Just gonna stop at 3 as I don't wanna be stuck on these forever and then getting back to Ace Attorney probably as I never finished the first game on my collection.

Roronoa Zoro Roronoa Zoro if you want a weird but cool one and want to feel patriotic on the go, check out Medal of Honor Infiltrator on the GBA.

Fun game, and it even has a Michael Giaccino score on midi.

Prey (2017), again. My third playthrough and it's even better than I remember. It might become my favorite game of all time, and I've been into gaming for 35+ years.

STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor

The performance on PC is absolute trash, but damn I love this game. I was genuinely surprised when I reached the first open area and it was way bigger than I expected.

That said, I really can't stand when games pull the whole "come back later" gimmick with puzzles or areas you cant access until the story progresses. It just feels inefficient. I end up wasting time trying to figure out what I missed, only to eventually Google it and find out it's not even doable yet

That does look pretty fun ngl but I'm so backlogged. Once I finish CoD3 it's gonna be a rush to get Ace Attorney done, then Lost Soul Aside and then it's horror gaming season right after that's done which the backlog is long and full of terror for

I'm planning to do a full second playthrough of Alan Wake 2, this tim with all the DLC's. I've only played a few chapters and I'm already tired of the mind palace mechanic, definitely didn't change my opinion on it. -_- This should be fully optional, what's the point of it if you aren't even allowed to make wrong deductions.

Good news is that Mafia should arrive on Friday or Saturday so I'll have a nice distraction.

Played through the demo of Shinobi Art of Vengeance. Awesome game. Fast paced ninja action with smooth af platforming and combat. Pre-ordered the classic edition for Switch right off the bat. Game has GOTY written all over it.

Started Resident Evil 7 Biohazard for the second time over the weekend. The first time was years ago on my brother's PS4 and I only got past the first Baker encounter. Now I'm playing on PC. After all the recent remakes (which I loved) this game is an interesting, slower-paced experience. The atmosphere is quite chilling!

Other PC games I'm working on include Elden Ring, UnderMine, Crypt Custodian, and UFO 50. On Switch, I'm enjoying Donkey Kong Bananza and finishing up a Proto Man run of Mega Man 10. I've been on a Blue Bomber kick so I'm considering doing my first ever replay of MM11 afterwards.

Basically, I play games in a rotation based on mood.
