Broken Pieces

I finished this. It was okay. Bit disappointed, as I was looking forward to an engrossing adventure game. Definitely choose the "Combat reduced" option when starting the game (you can also change this during a playthrough), as the combat is truly awful and adds nothing. Aside from that, the puzzles were pretty decent. The story was ... okay. I believe this was the dev's first game, so not a bad first effort. Overall, I'd give it a 3/5, for not quite living up to its full potential.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 with the Sigma 2 Black mod that restores the original enemy spawns, proper de-limbing and more.

This is becoming one of my favourite action games ever. The core combat and how it's balanced around the increased enemy count (compared to NG1) is extremely satisfying. I love how aggressive and unrelenting the enemies are, you always have to be mindful of your positioning and how the enemy crowd is moving towards you.

For now I'm liking it way more than NG1.
 
I don't know how it started but I'm quite enjoying a "Shitty" game called Hellslave. Browsing my Steam Library turns out I had this Dungeon Crawler RPG that is so simple in the look that is fascinating.

Original NG2 is better still. Regardless, the appeal of NG1 is the difference in weapon tactics and more acrobatic exploration. There are also knock down executions that are far more effective than delimb follow ups for the most common enemy types. In NG2 I found myself spamming flying swallow and guillotine throw a lot of the time just to keep up with the sheer volume of projectiles instead of proper spacing. Sigma 2 having giant sword swings leading into Izuna Drop always looked weird to me as well. In both games the aggression is largely controlled by the selected difficulty.

I just finished it.

That (in)famous staircase fight was amazing. It was a carnage of untold proportions. I fucking love this game.

The only disappointment is that the last couple chapters are not great, it's like they run out of budget, they are super short. It's a shame that you have to mod the game to play it (almost) as originally intended. One unintentional effect of the mod is that the girls' chapters act as the perfect pace breaker, since those are exclusive to Sigma 2 and retain the reduced enemy count. They act as a good respite from the super fast paced Ryu's chapters.

Maybe I will start Ninja Gaiden 3 RE in a few days. Then I'm all set for Ninja Gaiden 4.
 
Space Venture (I Kickstarted it 10+ years ago!) and I'm not sure how to feel about it. I'm a huge Space Quest fan, but moving objects in the game, at least early on, seems like it is being leaned on too heavily and I'm not sure I wanted box moving puzzles in my classic PNC games.
 
My boys have got interested in playing Beat Em Ups with me, which I throw on to Easy Mode and we just cruise through having a good co-op time (they are still pretty young). Right now we're playing Streets of Rage 4, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, and Karate Kid: Street Rumble, all on Switch,.

Streets of Rage 4 has great visuals and music but the boys were getting frustrated that we could actually hit each other -- I looked online and apparently you can turn this off so will do that tonight. No idea why that would be default turned on in a beat em up, we were hitting each other more than the enemies. On sale for $10, steal.

Shredders Revenge we already owned previously and it just kicks serious ass, what more to say on that one?

Karate Kid is kind of bad, but not terrible, and I love the franchise -- even a bad beat em up in co-op is at least decent.

Any other recommendations in this genre? I showed them Marvel Cosmic Invasion and they're both really excited for it.

It's a bit of a minor miracle that Streets of Rage 4 turned out to be as good as it was, considering how long it was since part 3, as well as the fact the developers weren't exactly veterans of the gaming scene, but in the end it ended up being better than part 3!

I do not know which ones are on Switch but Capcom's Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Final Fight 1/3, Dungeons & Dragons games, and Alien vs. Predator are recommended. Konami's TMNT arcade games, The Simpsons, and Metamorphic Force are great. Rare's Battletoads Arcade, SNK's Sengoku 3, Taito's The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors, Banpresto's Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon, and Sega's Dynamite Cop games and SpikeOut are also awesome. The remaster of Night Slashers is sort of neat. A lot of people praise River City Girls and Castle Crashers but I never tried them.

Playing Shadow Labyrinth. It's ok. Starts off bad, gets a little better. I had some metroidvanias on preorders that were supposed to come out this month that got delayed and they keep getting delayed, so I have no idea when they're coming out. Namely Elypse and Nocturnal. Oh well, a lot coming up in the next month anyway, but was looking forward to having several Metroidvanias in the chamber in case of any lull period. They're my comfort food. I can play them during any mood.
 
Finished Alan Wake 2 for the second time and I still don't like the story, the tone, the annoying jumpscares and some elements of the gameplay (especially the pointless mind palace). And I really hate the fact that the ending doesn't give any closure or the feeling of achieving something, instead tries to confuse you as much as possible and makes you wait for the next game (which may not get released if Control 2 flops).

I've also played the DLC's for the first time and the Night Springs ones were bad, especially Rose's episode and its failed attempts at humor. Also doesn't help that they reused existing locations. The Lake House was the only decent DLC, made me feel like I was playing Control again, exploring cool looking office spaces. But yeah, even that DLC wasn't very long and ultimately didn't work as a continuation of the main story (since it could also be finished as sort of an intermission during the main campaign).
 
Might not be "playing" in the strictest sense, but I am checking Alien Earth, first episode in it already nails the Alien Isolation vibe! Part of me wishes the Halo TV series was given as much care and attention as this Alien series has...40 years in the making as well, as this is the first time we've had an Alien TV series..
 
Playing Order of Ecclesia and they really went all in with the dificulty in this one. Is like a great mix of Classicvania and Metroidvania and its prety good so far
 
I've recently found out about Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition .

I enjoyed the remake and have always wanted to try the original.

Seems easy to set up apart from getting hold of the original game - I have the PS2 ROM but that doesn't work with the mod and the only place to get the original PC release is my abandon ware.....

Anybody heard of or used this site? Seems to get really mixed reviews regarding the safety of it for malware viruses etc

Messed about with the .ini for those 60 frames, and it's glorious on PC.

I miss games like this that had adult themes with macabre settings, the excellent soundtrack helps too.

Awsome, vastly overlooked game.

..I used that version, no problems here. Just make sure you do scan anything before executing (y)
 
Soon done with DK Bananza. Fantastic game. Been having so much fun with this one. A true killer app for Switch 2.

I've also finally gotten around to Eiyuden Chronicles. I was so pumped for this during launch but somehow I just dropped it due to too many games releasing at the time. But now I'm totally on board. It's gorgeous looking and holds very true to its Suikoden roots. I can feel this is gonna be a good one. Can't wait to play more.
 
In a bit of a lull at the moment and find myself bouncing around.

I'm playing either Helldivers 2 (PS5), Phasmophobia (PS5/PC) or Walkabout Golf (Quest 3) with friends about once a week.

But nothing much in between. I'll return to Turtle WoW (PC) with the big 1.18.0 release tomorrow :)

I've been very busy lately and haven't played much of anything really.
 
Been playing the Doom 64 Remaster (?)

The port is pretty good although the intro videos are def unnecessary. The high res makes the visuals sharp at least and it's very playable on controller.

Now the whole "look for key cards but get lost" thing is kinda lame. 2016 does it so much better than Classic Doom in general. Kind of gives a better appreciation for it.

Resident Evil 4 Remake
Man, those regenerators still freak me, no matter how many times I play this or the original. One of the highlights of the game imo. Still think the Island is the weakest part of the game despite having some epic moments, moments like the Krauser fight.

Zelda BoTW on Switch 2 and Fortnite is pretty much all I've been playing right now.

Hooked on Zelda again near like I was in 2017. I think I clocked in something like 6 hours just earlier. Trying to find all the shrines and get all the quests done is fun as heck. Going to use the app a ton for finding all the koroks and the new Zelda memories too. I have a ton (All) of the Zelda Amiibo to scan from my family getting them so I get all that bonus stuff too which is cool.

Fortnite is fun to play with my siblings to do the dailies. People are extra hard this season. We still got 4 crown victories though! Most of the shader stutters I had in the past are gone this season which is a relief. I feel like they're finally nearing the nail in the coffin with shader stutter on Fortnite anyways.
 
Sons of the Forest with a buddy. Game is like crack haven't stayed up playing anything till 3 am in a long time but this did it. Building log cabins was my shit in Valhiem and it's no different here. It's the forest but improved and has some new surprises.

NOTHING will compare to the terror of our first cave in OG The Forest.

Actually there is a mod, made by the same guy who created the Sigma 2 Black mod.

It's called Ninja Gaiden 2 White. The two mods should be the same from what I'm reading. Beware that the mod works only from the Warrior difficulty onwards, at least for Sigma 2.

This game sat on my wishlist for many years and it recently went on sale, so I thought I'd grab it for the weekend. Played a little and I really like the vibe I get from it. I've played a few similar games in the past, but couldn't get into them, and I think that's largely because of the setting and locales. The underwater setting here is fantastic. Really nice music and ambient sounds. Looks quite good for an older game also.

Make the most of it, as the sequel's prospects are sinking fast....who knows if it'll even end up being as good as the first part, let alone released
 
Just finished Ninja Gaiden 3 RE.

What a weird game. Not bad but not great either. The focus on cinematics was really a bad idea, and the boss design is terrible in general. Still, I had my fun: I enjoyed the core combat, the new Steel on Bone mechanic is pretty cool. For sure this game is not as good as NG1 and NG2, that is clear.

Now the wait for NG4 begins.
 
I've become from a total noob to an intermediate connoisseur of Civilization games.
Currently i have Civ 3,4,5,6 and 7 installed on Steam and now i'm trying all out to find my favorite Civ game. So far i like 6 the best.
 
Finished Bugsnax yesterday and with that cleared my backlog once again. Originally wanted to go for the Platinum now but decided to put it aside after all. Going to use the remainder of August to dig into Clair Obsure.
