What happened to Lego Games?

They used to come out at least 1 game in two years and since Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga , they never released anything more?

Yeah the last one was not very good , way to big with stupid things like challenges in levels and even the levels itself were so small.

Good were the days of Lego Harry Potter , LOTR, Hobbit (even though they never released the 3rd movie which was suppose to be DLC) , the first marvel one (the 2nd one, avengers was trash) , Pirates of The Caribean Indiana Jones or even the first 2 batman (3rd one was trash also)

Well, every major movie had a Lego game already right. It's time to let the Lego games rest. It already peaked with Jurassic Park and City Undercover.

Always thought the series is designed for parents and young children to play together. The humor is clever and movie references pretty great but not worth the mind-numbing gameplay unless you have a kid.

Lack of any good source material. I guess they could do a Superman or Fantastic Four, but seems like Hollywood just doesn't make epic movies and TV shows any more

I think they put a lot of resources into the last game (Star Wars one) and it didn't do well.

I thought that one did really well?
It was the fifth best selling game (in the US) in 2022. If that was disappointing for them I think they had some unrealistic expectations

It seems like they've mined most of the major pop culture franchises already; Marvel, DC, Star Wars, LOTR, Pirates, Harry Potter. I would have loved a take on the Matrix movies but I imagine if that were viable we'd have had that already.

I went nuts recently and bought 3 Sony games for my PC including the Lego Horizon, It's a lego game. I've only played less than an hour so far, It's a lego game.
Also bought the first Aloy game and Uncharted.

edit-Also I bought the physical Tallneck lego set. It's still in it's box.

The last lego game from Traveler's Tale, the skywalker saga had a huge scope. You could fly around the galaxy and explore planets in free roam. It probably takes more time to make these games.

Conversely the PS2 games were just levels and a hub world. Simpler in scope.

I also think lego might have shifted their focus in the video game market. Their recent efforts have been lego horizon, lego fortnite and those indie lego RTX games.

Yes, not only was it a massive project in story (even though previous LEGO Star Wars games had covered these Skywalker eras) and content and mechanical improvements / world construction and current-gen graphical design, but it was also on a brand new engine at TT Games.

(Unfortunately, instead of enabling a brighter future of LEGO games on an up-to-date and impressive technology base, the new engine became an albatross during development because it was unexpectedly unwieldy and could not work easily with familiar workflows/apps and caused massive headaches and delays in production; likely any future TT Games project will be on UE or another familiar engine, unless somehow the crucible of Lego SW Skywalker somehow ground out all the rough edges of this engine.)
(The borked new engine also increased crunch, which stressed an apparently toxic work environment, for whatever people think of the modern Glassdoor movement to labor management/whistleblowing. Public reports are out there of long-standing strife from the grind of all those LEGO games, without a lot of profit sharing back to the workforce or the studio for making massive blockbusters which often had two global brands taking their cut before the dev team got their share. Also there has been some talent loss as well as canceled projects.)

It's not known what the status of TT Games is after their most recent game, rumor says they have something coming up soon, but with major team leads having left and some issues to deal with and tech decisions to make, hopefully the downtime (or at least quiet time) was healthy for TT Games in getting back in shape and ready for its future.

Im gonna play the lottery this week after this 😅😅😅 what a coincidence

Looking forward to lego batman, it looked great and specially small in scope compared to star wars which was gigantic with so many planets

Maybe, but I don't think so? "LEGO Games" (which was never really a publisher or anything tangible as far as I know, more a corporate brand for licensing, although there may be more of a producer's office there now given the cool indie stuff they're trying out now) always had multiple access points in the market and studios pitching projects with their bricks, but when Travelers Tales merged LEGO and big brands and then did it over and over again to massive success, the thing that you think of when you think "LEGO videogame" solidified even though other stuff was coming out here and there.

The question I think I have is what is WB's focus in the video game market in relation to LEGO. WB has a long-standing relationship with LEGO, but they don't own the company and they have to fork over a lot when they make a LEGO game. In the past, that relationship was easy, because the games were reasonably budgeted and the brands were blockbusters and the sales flowed plentifully and sometimes Warner could even use its own brands like DC or Harry Potter to keep as much of the profit flow coming into the house as possible. Now, the factors may not be as promising (and Warner Bros corp seems to be locked into safe plays after some noted failures and some unlikeable cost-shaving tactics, which personally seems like foolish business for an imprint flush with viable brands, but what do I know about cheapskate, tax-chicanerous, money-hoarding, big-business management?) If TT Games could get back on its feet and produce LEGO ## hits with big brands again (especially brands in the WB staple,,, how ironic would it be to finally make that LEGO Looney Tunes game SilentStorm suggested after the tragic sell-off/shtdown of the Looneys at WB?), I think Warner Bros Games would be perfectly happy with that and would see it as a logical avenue of business for its current corporate model. But, it would have to be the safe play.

Horizon Zero Lego??

Eh, it's a meme to clown on this game for being peak-too-much Horizon from Sony and also for apparently not selling well, but I think this was less LEGO brand fatigue/disinterest and more just a brand combo and marketing/timing approach which didn't hit. (And reviews said it was only so-so as a game, I haven't played it myself.) It didn't have the same push behind it, and despite the popularity of the two Horizon games on PS and PC, it hasn't proven to be a brand to expand upon.

It was also a different developer and publisher (...if there even was a publisher.) TT Games had no involvement, and although some play mechanics and visuals are similar, the games and creatives don't have much to do with each other. Developer Studio Gobo (whose first in-house project was this LEGO Horizon game) was founded by people more connected to Disney Infinity if I recall.

(Interestingly, the project which has more LEGO seeds is the Funko Fusion, as developer 10:10 Games had some noted TT Games ex-pats in the founding org.)

If/when Warner Bros Games wants to get serious about making traditional LEGO games again (which the rumor above about a new LEGO Batman points to just happened a second ago) I don't think the weak performance of LEGO Horizon would be much of a speedbump for them to get moving again.

...But it probably would have moved things along faster if LEGO Horizon had been a big hit.

The lack of Lego Looney Tunes is a tragedy this world will never recover from.

Would use Duck Dodgers instead, also, i imagine Tiny Toons characters would be available so more there.

I wonder if they could get away with having Tom and Jerry as guest characters, the Animaniacs too.

I would say Scooby Gang too but they aren't really old cartoons in the same style or meant to reference or parody them.

Not that WB would do that, just glad a new Lego Batman is being done anyways.
