"While others are talking, Nintendo is acting. Let me ask you a question: what company right now is driving category sales? If you said someone other than Nintendo, you're wrong. We have momentum -- have had it since late last year, and if you don't feel it yet, you will. I promise you that."

"Well....I've got nothing!"

this thread didn't really go anywhere.

But it sure as hell was funny. :lol

The fact that people are still talking about Reggie means E3 was a fantastic idea.

In December 1998 were people sitting around going OMG WHAT HAPPENED TO PETER MAIN?!? HE HASN'T SAID ANYTHING IN WEEKS

Everyone giving reggie shit for his speech aparently doesn't understand what his JOB is. WTF is he supposed to say "Holy shit nintendo am crying. SELL YOUR GCNS ITS ALL OVER!"

No matter how badly things are going, its his JOB to point out what nintendo has going correctly, and paint a rosy picture

He's not the only one who's not supposed to say that!

I think that thread still ought to be stickied. I myself thought the rules did not apply anymore.
It's stickied in the OT forum. Dunno what happened to the one in this forum, but it applies until otherwise noted.

Reggie injected a much-needed shot of life into Nintendo's conference last E3, even though at the time I most of what he was saying was just super-aggressive damage control and not extraordinarily convincing.

He definitely did his job hyping up the press and crowd though, it's not his fault personally that the performance didn't always end up matching the PR copy.

Actually that was harsh. After all, GDJustin did not use the phrase in the context of which it was banned.
IAWTP. The English language is nothing without context. In the context of GDJustin's post, seems like he was trying to defend Reggie and Nintendo, not trying to be a dick about it. If the GAF mods are gonna be this ban happy now, there won't be anyone left here by the time the real flamewars begin next Summer. PEACE.

I agree what GDjustin said.

Reggie's job is to hype Nintendo at all times! (Even when they suck). Anyone who don't think so don't know what marketing is.

I wonder if Reggie had any idea what he was exposing himself to when he joined Nintendo. All that strutting at E3 certainly didn't help, but I can't think of any industry where consumers follow marketing people like rock stars (HAVE MY BABIES PERRIN!!!)

Reggie vs. Ballmer. FIGHT

I don't think so. I can just see him stepping off the stage afterwards with a zonked "WTF?" expression on his face.

At the same time, you should have actions or products to back up the marketing. If not, it becomes a "boy who cried wolf" scenario. When no one believes you, no matter what you say the next time. Also, a big problem I had was Reggie became more of a running gag and less about Nintendo as time went on. If you get more hype about yourself, rather than the product or company you are promoting, then you have not really done your job.

I support GDJustin.

Also, the Reggie-lution was over for me when I first saw the shitty MP2:Echoes commercial. GameCube software sales are going to be dismal for Q4, and it will be interesting to see how Nintendo tries to spin it in the spring.

Maybe they underestimated everyone's reaction?
