What has been your favorite features of the current generation of consoles so far?

Nothing really, consoles usually catch up with pc gaming so fast loading times, high res and 60fps modes didn't really shocked my world and i could not give less fucks about controller gimmicks.

I guess ps5 has usually even shorter loading times than pc so that is nice, i'm not really a guy who get excited for "features" tbh.

SSD and it's use within the UI/games including the former resume activity😢. It's cool receiving notifications of things like your score ingame being beaten and having the option to go directly to it to challenge the new score instantly skipping the boot up screen.

DualSense, like the ssd although game depended has had a real impact on experiences.

Those two are my favs.

60 fps - Almost all games offer Quailty and Perfomance modes now.
Raytracing - Never Available on previous generations.
SSD NVME - We went from 100 MB/s in Ps4 to 5500 MB/s in Ps5

SSD and better performance for the most part. Quick resume on Xbox, dualsense on PS. Portability and handheld gaming on Switch.

The best new experience is Quest 3. It's just god damn cool. New game are released often. The immersion wears off a bit but using the headset always feels fresh and exciting. If I could keep only 2 of the 4 I would probably keep the Switch and the Quest 3! I love novelty more than power.

Has to be the addition of SSDs. Load times are almost non-existent now. That's been the biggest game changer for me.

Instant loading times on the PS5 in the games that actually utilize the IO complex properly, and adaptive triggers. Unfortunately very few games taken advantage of this because of all the cross-gen and cross-plattform games so it's very hard to be impressed.

What I like the most about my Nintendo Switch:

-All of the new Nintendogames on one system, and not split up across two systems.

I really only have time to play games on one system, since there is a limit as to how many games I have the time to play in a year. Or even want to play. There are other things to do in life as well and time passes by faster and faster as I get older.

Nintendo gameplay is what I enjoy the most when I get around to sitting down for some gameplaying activity, so it is nice to have the games on one small system that do not take up much space (another plus).

Charging extra for the vertical stand. Us Vertical Elite™ can now properly position ourselves (vertically) above the riffraff filled with unsteady wobblers and *spits* horizontal gamers. Honestly, if you're gonna put your console horizontal, you might as well dump your food on the floor and lick it off the ground like an animal.

I only wish that it cost more. Maybe Sony will do one of their Late Life Price Increases® like they did for Dualsense controllers and Horizon Zero Dawn. We can only hope.

Controller paddles on elite controllers and full settings to customise.

SSD and loading times being great.

Apps integration, consoles became hubs of entertainment.

Fast loading and quick resume.
Makes you genuinely wonder how we could tolerate loading times for 4 console generations.

nothing for PS5 not even the games have been that good. i did play VII Rebirth which was enjoyable. i use my PS5 mostly as a netflix/youtube machine. sometimes i do play some Valorant or GT7. it'll get some use when GTA VI comes out and up until it releases on PC which is my main platform.

things like high fps, ssd, and raytracing on console don't excite me. i have a 360hz monitor, have been using SSDs since 2008, and i have an RTX 4080. it's funny seeing people happy with 60fps and SSDs which are half the speed as on PC.

Switch is probably my favourite console. The whole handheld/docked thing is cool and there have been loads of exclusives. I'm excited for Switch 2. Steam Deck has been fun too which lets me play my PC games on the go :)

Quick Resume. As someone who enjoys sports games it makes it easy to toggle between different sports games and whatever else I'm playing.

They are quiet and they're fast. My PS4 sounded like a vacuum cleaner when I got it and they were so slow. The speed is actually the reason why I don't play my Switch as much as my other consoles right now…it's just so slow compared to the others. Maybe Switch 2. 🤔

Quick resume. I still can't believe when I am selecting the kingdom hearts collection randomly, how it's instantly at the moment I left off, not even paused, just like the game has been running in the background the whole time. Hopefully it gets even better with next gen.
SSD too!
PS5 triggers are good for single player games but I tried Multiplayer with them & never again. I'll stick to Xbox controller/console for all online aspects.

Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers
Not having to load the game again when putting the console to rest mode
60fps

SSDs finally in consoles. 60fps wherever possible. Haptic feedback is neat. Adaptive triggers are a massive waste of time.

It's underwhelming to say the least, but I don't really know what you do from here. Playstation and Xboxes are just PCs now.

Quick Resume
BC

I love that I can still play the original Sonic 3 with the MJ music on a console in 2024 when Sega is trying to hide it.

SSD drive / Game resume is a massive win for someone with absolutely zero patience and little time for gaming, being able to switch everything on with a button on my controller and be in the game before I've even sat down is a game changer for me

The biggest? for me it was the performance modes, if that counts as a feature.

The first 3 years was amazing in that regard.. truly everything i wanted when upgraded from previous gen, now it's not as good but to be expected.

SSD is my second.. going from more then a minute long loading in The Witcher 3 to mere seconds is amazing.

"What has been your favorite features of the current generation of consoles so far?"

Lack of games. Have plenty of time to catch up and play old games i bought and didn't finish

I agree with fast loading and quick resume, but for me by far the best thing this gen has been the birth of the Steam Deck (and OLED), playing pretty much any PC game I own anywhere, has been a game changer!

Quick Resume and Play Anywhere are amazing features.

Oh yeah, play anywhere is default on almost all games with PC versions that come to game pass. It's a fantastic way to port saves from Xbox to PC and vice versa as well, good for when you want to transfer a .. say .. JRPG save over .. use cheat engine .. and the port that save back to the console (y) 😇

PS5 SSD by far.

Even tho this is by far the worst generation of PlayStation in term of exclusive, the console and hardware in it self is very great, Mark Cerny the goat again.

For me it's PORTAL & Adaptive Triggers.

Remote Play used to be something that I would test out every once in awhile but never became something that I would actually use for hours a day playing games but Portal pretty much let you forget that you're using Remote Play. You just turn it on login & play .

Adaptive Triggers didn't seem important at 1st but now it feels strange when games don't use them.
What years is this gif…

60 fps in most games is by far the best feature this gen. I feel like we are finally getting back to the GameCube, well not quite yet. There was a time when the best looking/most technologically advanced launch title on the GameCube which was Rogue Squadron was also 60 fps.

60fps modes basically becoming a standard feature of most games is the biggest one since it literally impacts gameplay.

Followed by the fast loading. You don't really appreciate it until you play something on PS4 or PS3 and are reminded of how slow they were. Like I'm playing Monster Hunter World with some friends who are still on PS4 and it's crazy how much longer they take to load the missions.
