Not every gen. The PS4 launched in february 2014 in Japan.PlayStation don’t give a shit about the Japanese market anymore where they know its safe when stocks finally get easier, they need to land as many units as possible in NA and European markets to counter xbox early on.
If I was a Japanese living in Japan I would be absolutely fucking livid that’s how a home grown company now treats them. This has been a slow burn of happening since the move to Cali happened.
Japan used to get every gen first, before anyone else in the world. The way it should be for a company created in said country, we now have world wide launches great for the rest of us but the stock being sent to Japan is an insult.
That happened already with the 360.If Xbox ever beat Playstation even for just one week, limited supply or not, that would be historical, green rats deserve to gloat
360 did outsell the PS3 on occasions.

Microsoft Xbox 360 outsells PS3 in Japan in Sept
Microsoft Corp's Xbox 360 outsold Sony's PlayStation 3 in Japan in September, beating the rival machine in monthly unit sales for the first time in Sony's home market, a game magazine publisher said.www.reuters.com
The 360 outsold the PS3 several weeks in 2008/2009. Beating the PS5 in 1 week just because it doesn't have stock when the PS5 has outsold the XS almost 10:1 in Japan is nothing to gloat about. You should focus on Xbox returning to even 360 levels in Japan because launch aligned it's still behind x360 and even the original xbox. PS5 has already sold in Japan more than what Xbox Series is likely to sell lifetime.
More like 10 years.
360 outsold PS3 in some weeks due supply issues too.
That happened already with the 360.
Do we have to see this every week?
Clearly Playstation has supply issues lol
Another one of these threads, feel like every time sales are mentioned its either the UK or Japan
It ain't that seriousIf Xbox ever beat Playstation even for just one week, limited supply or not, that would be historical, green rats deserve to gloat
Compared to the Xbox one generation the Series generation is doing fantastic so far.PS5 Lifetime Sales - 1.17 million
XBS Lifetime Sales - 0.12 million
PS5 is outselling XBS by a 10 to 1 ratio.
Has Japan totally given up on the Xbox brand?
Who even cares about the japan console market anymore? lol
We get more data from Japan, UK and Spain than anywhere else. That's whyAnother one of these threads, feel like every time sales are mentioned its either the UK or Japan
That's fine, but from a business perspective many Japanese gamers are buying games that are different from what's topping the charts elsewhere. The bulk of the games that are selling - are they going to sell in other markets?PlayStation don’t give a shit about the Japanese market anymore where they know its safe when stocks finally get easier, they need to land as many units as possible in NA and European markets to counter xbox early on.

That key is rather than thinking "I need software that will sell well in the West" or "I need software that will sell well in the East", is to think "I need software that will sell well globally". That's the path to success. That's fine, but from a business perspective many Japanese gamers are buying games that are different from what's topping the charts elsewhere. The importance of the Japanese home console market is finishing year-after-year.
Yes but then you look at the Japanese top 40 and realise that's harder than it looks. That key is rather than thinking "I need software that will sell well in the West" or "I need software that will sell well in the East", is to think "I need software that will sell well globally". It is laughable, but both ps5 and Xbox Series consoles are in extremely limited supply in Japan. This thread is laughable bait.
Trying to extrapolate meaning on 4,100 sales (extremely limited supply) vs 3400 sales (extremely low demand in this market) when Nintendo is just laughing with 170,000 consoles sold.
Japan has a perception for being into wacky stuff but its not really true. The stuff Japan wans to play is fairly similar to what the West wants to play. If we look the top 30 games from Japan last year:Yes but then you look at the Japanese top 40 and realise that's harder than it looks.
Like how many Western gamers want to play half of that wacky stuff. Yakuza, Final Fantasy, sure, maybe Persona or Monster Hunter. But some of the other stuff? Nah.
I thought maybe you were perma banned within the neogaf purge
Doesn't really seem to be impacting thier bottom line this fyGo woke and western, go broke!
I guess Sony agrees with you.Who even cares about the japan console market anymore? lol
I guess Sony agrees with you.
Meanwhile Nintendo grabbing handfuls of money..
This is not how supply chains work. There's certainly not high demand in Japan for PS5 software, and that's quite telling. You would think Sony would allocate Japan 50k units to sell in its native territory just to make a statement at this point, if the demand was actually there.
Not sure I agree with that.Japan has a perception for being into wacky stuff but its not really true. The stuff Japan wans to play is fairly similar to what the West wants to play. If we look the top 30 games from Japan last year:

Then I'd split it out as the below:
Only released in Japan: 3 - Fishing Spirits (based on a Japanese arcade game) eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 (based on a Japanese sports league) and Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!
Only sold well in Japan: 3 - Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. MaxiBoost On, Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch (not released in the US) and Pikmin 3 Deluxe
Sold well in Japan and the West: The other 24 games
So its not that Japan is into stuff the West isn't into. its that the West is into stuff Japan isn't into.
They cant give up what they never had to start withPS5 Lifetime Sales - 1.17 million
XBS Lifetime Sales - 0.12 million
PS5 is outselling XBS by a 10 to 1 ratio.
Has Japan totally given up on the Xbox brand?
iPhone is more popular than all of PlayStations hardware combined in gaming revenue and profits. Notice how many times you brought phone vs Switch when discussing about Switch market domination while you're leaving PlayStation against phone when discussing about its sales. Not sure I agree with that.
There are a few games I've never heard of there. But also there are a lot of big Western franchises that don't sell anywhere near as well over there as they do here - BF, CoD, Red Dead, AC, Far Cry, Uncharted, God of War etc.
Also bear in mind that many people here keep the Switch as a secondary console, over there mobile/portable gaming seems much more popular.
And all Playsation hardware is more popular than Nintendo hardware - it's why three Playstation consoles voted in the top five of all-time at the GJ awards the other week, and one Nintendo console.iPhone is more popular than all of PlayStations hardware combined in gaming revenue and profits. Please try to spin that into "well you can't bring phone market here when discussing about gaming".
Apart from the ones that weren't localised, how many of that list have you not heard of and which were they? Not sure I agree with that.

Err yeah and Japan is into stuff the West isnt into - otherwise why would some games not see release here. Railway sims sell well there, obscure 'board games'. They just have fundamentally very different tastes. And the west likes certain games more too, look at the FPS genre for example.Apart from the ones that weren't localised, how many of that list have you not heard of and which were they?
In terms of Western franchises you are agreeing with exactly what I said. The West is into stuff Japan isn't into.
Mobile phone gaming is popular everywhere. It isn't a Japanese specific phenomenon and it doesn't really help the Switch in anyway apart in pushing foreward technology. Someone owning a phone doesn't make the Switch secondary just like someone owning a Switch doesn't make that a phone secondary. They are different devices.
Using GJ awards(British) as a barometerAnd all Playsation hardware is more popular than Nintendo hardware - it's why three Playstation consoles voted in the top five of all-time at the GJ awards the other week, and one Nintendo console.
There's no need to act triggered because about it though.
Momotaro is the outlier though. The vast majority of games that sell in Japan also sell in the West. They don't buy some of the franchises that are big in the West, but what Japan likes the West also likes.Err yeah and Japan is into stuff the West isnt into - otherwise why would some games not see release here. Railway sims sell well there, obscure 'board games'. They just have fundamentally very different tastes. And the west likes certain games more too, look at the FPS genre for example.
And I never said mobile gaming wasn't popular everywhere....
That was an internal record for Sony as well.
Said by someone who's always crying about mobile phones when talking about Nintendo Switch domination.
You're getting upset, and ignoring the fact that I said "over there mobile/portable gaming seems much more popular".Said by someone who's always crying about mobile phones when talking about Nintendo Switch domination.
Funny when you're the one who acting up as one while giving out false information about market situations and calling other as immature. You're getting upset, and ignoring the fact that I said "over there mobile/portable gaming seems much more popular".
No grown-up (assuming you are one of course) should be acting that fragile over such a simple statement.
