Ever since the Rage Against the Machine break-up (which only happened because he quit the band), he's been writing music and locking it away unreleased.

He didn't even want to release Renegades but the rest of the band released it without his approval. After the break-up, he wrote 20 songs with Trent Reznor and decided to lock that away as well (the one released song), an unreleased solo album, and probably more.

I honestly believe he's waiting to release all his music when he dies.

I heard he became a Republican, and his songs about fiscal responsibility and trickle down economics just did not have the same punch as his earlier work.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

RatM did a couple reunion shows in the past few years and the ever-present rumor that they're doing a new album, but that's all I know.

Out of interest, did they ever do anything to actually distance themselves from the machine they were raging at, or was it all for show?

After going through my requisite RATM phase as an angry teenager (thankfully avoiding the Limp Bizkit phase as a result), I did always wonder what the hell happened to him.

Here's a quote from Tom Morello addressing your complaint:

"When you live in a capitalistic society, the currency of the dissemination of information goes through capitalistic channels. Would Noam Chomsky object to his works being sold at Barnes & Noble? No, because that's where people buy their books. We're not interested in preaching to just the converted. It's great to play abandoned squats run by anarchists, but it's also great to be able to reach people with a revolutionary message, people from Granada Hills to Stuttgart."

I've always wondered if RATM would ever come back. It just seems that everything that has happened in America since 9/11 would make for outstanding material - War on Terror, Gulf War II, global financial crisis, union busting ... you get the idea.

Sure, Tom Morello's Nightwatchmen get in on this but it just ain't the same.

p.s. That One Day As a Lion song is pretty cool!

I have to wonder why he wouldn't just release his vaulted works for free or at a pay what you want fee. That seems pretty inline with his beliefs instead of make stuff just for you and never share it.

I think what he has to say is too controversial for his own good and he knows it.

Kinda sounds like Prince, who supposedly has whole music videos of unreleased songs that are shot, edited, and ready for release, but he shelved them.

That song is pure magic.
