What is in these PS3 Dev kits?

Ghost

Chili Con Carnage!
All the footage looks incredible if its real time, i really cant watch the sony conference all the way through so i dont know if they said...what is supposed to be inside the PS3 dev kits?

This is me talking outta my ass, but I don't think I'm far off...

It's one of the big things that has hurt X360 showings so far....that X360 dev kits don't have hardware that well-represents the capability of the final system. PS3 dev kits supposedly house a 1st gen Cell chip and, I believe, SLI'ed GeForce 6800 Ultras. Xenon kits house dual-G5 PPCs and an ATI 850x card. Having development hardware that is MUCH closer to the final hardware is going to guarantee far better showings of performance in the early videos and playing demonstrations. One big clusterfuck for MS, it seems.

Someone who works on next-gen consoles could tell me if I'm wrong or not.

I think you are not far. And adding to the problem is that 6800U SLI is alot closer to RSX than X800 is to R500. Infact, nothing out right now is even remotely like the R500.

Yeah that could be it. It's funny how this time it's Sony that uses a rather "classic" GPU, very PC-ish with his own dedicated VRAM, and MS that gets the very new and original technology with this very shader centric R500 GPU.
