I also like to make the point that analyst groups absolutely do not reflect what is going on behind the scenes.

You can't assume that because NPD or analyst group X doesn't mention Nintendo, it means that Nintendo is exiting the hardware business or becoming extremely withdrawn as you are implying. Chalk it up to Nintendo being very hush hush about their next generation machine. You can also mix in the fact that the mainstream media generally does ignore Nintendo, regardless of what they're doing.

How about you let Nintendo decide what's going on with their next generation hardware rather than relying on what analyst groups or developers are not saying about it. It makes no sense to come to the conclusions you have based on 'not hearing anything or not being mentioned by developers/analyst.' Nintendo will be glad to tell you all about their plans for the Revolution soon enough.

If Ninty's so-called Revolution is a bust, I'll consider them irrelevant in the home console arena. Going by the DS (if that's even fair), they really need to ensure that killer apps that drive home the point of their unique hardware are present at launch. So far, DS is great for GBA games, though. :/

I wouldn't say that Nintendo are irrelevant, but in terms of the home console market they are slowly sliding into irrelevancy and have been since the N64 days. With revolution they will still need the likes of Mario and Zelda to retain their existing demographic at the very least, at the same time though they need to match the feature sets of their competitors in terms of system performance and online functionality while also offering features that differentiate it from those competitors. Finally, and most importantly, it needs to be aggressively marketed to the masses and it must, in turn, be considered a viable competitor to both Sony and Microsoft. The latter is something they've definitely been hurt bad on this generation, they can turn it around but not without changing the direction and philosophy the company has taken so far.

Well, Conker ain't lookin' so hot, either...but look at what happened when they put him in an XBOX title. I don't personally have a problem with the new Jo...because the old one looked like ass in game, anyway.

I'm sure as a company Nintendo will be fine next gen. The same 5% of their fanbase will bitch and moan about them being a permenant 3rd in the industry for home console, and I really don't see them holding onto the handheld market with a $150 PSP. We will see.
