Really? Space Marine 2 is awesome. Nice. I've been thinking of trying this so.....bought.

Currently on sale on Steam for $27

$15 on CD Keys in the US

Do you like CRPGs? You see more depth to the 40K universe than just being a pawn of the emperor.

Yeah, love them. Pawn of the emperor? Sounds like xenos or chaos propaganda to me. As an owner of Ork, Necron and (coming soon) Thousand Son armies in W40k.....I approve.

Bought Warhammer Mechanicus not long ago on sale since I like tactics game. Seems to have good reviews on Steam. Plus Mechanicus 2 has been announced.

They are both very good games of solid quality, but Daemonhunters is NOT a CRPG.
It's more a "tactical combat + base management" hybrid a la XCOM.

They also show very different angles of he WH40K universe, as the already-mentioned Mechanicus does as well.

Rogue Trader is probably the best thing Owlcat have done so far. And the only real Warhammer 40k CRPG. Daemonhunters is not a CRPG. It's a Turn-based tactics game à la XCOM.

Want to play Rogue Trader but I'm waiting till Owlcat finishes the game. :goog_relieved:

As others have said, rogue trader as the other option is just Grey Knights X-COM (and a great game in that genre)

I would state however the next small expansion is due to release soon, so I would wait to play until they releases to play it.

But given its currently on sale, buy now, wait for expansion 2 to release to play would be the way to go.

Daemonhunters could've been incredible if they hadn't opted for the weirdly cartoonish WoW-esque visual style.

Rogue Trader was really good, it didn't quite match the highs of Pathfinder WotR, but that is an impossibly high bar to hit.
As good as BG3 ended up being, I still think Owlcat would've been a better fit for the game.

- Abelard, present me
- Before you, filthy slum dog, is the Only True Lord of Warhammer 40k role playing, the blistering lord Rogue Trader of house Owlcat. And now, kneel before I shoot you for not properly addressing My Lord.

They understand the fundamentals of CRPG of the 90s, they should have made BG3 but hey, we got that 40k RPG so I'm not complaining

I'd love to see them tackle Planescape or Spelljammer.
In a perfect world WotC would resurrect Dark Sun and let Owlcat go nuts with it.

That's what the 2nd play through is for! The 2nd DLC if you are waiting for that is releasing soon.

I do recommend the first major DLC as it ties in well into the main game. Not required of course as the base game already has a ton of content, but it is quite good.

I think I like Pathfinder WotR a bit better va Rogue Trader, but both are excellent and some of the best CRPGs ever made.

What made WotR awesome though was sheer combination of available character build options thanks to Pathfinder and Owlcat's excellent job into translating that to a video game.

D&D 5th Edition just doesn't have the flexibility. I would love Owlcat to come back to Pathfinder some day with a larger budget. Or do a Shadowrun game!

How is the story in Rogue Trader? More nuanced and layered like Kingmaker or straightforward like Wrath of the Righteous?

Never played kingmaker (should I?), but rogue trader is a lot like wotr where you have the 'campaign' map where you can choose to travel to many different places with quests sending you all over but theres always a story quest pointing you in one direction.

I actually am HATING the crusade in wotr right now, in rouge trader you sometimes have space combat but its way less involved than the crusade. Plus I don't have a main story quest right now so I'm just wandering the map doing side quests and letting my armies build up cause holy fuck even on easy crusade some of those demon armies are just bodying me

Rogue trader is a brilliant crpg. One of the best ever for me. It managed to keep the top notch writing through a hundred hours plus. Great art and satisfying combat. Having played their last 2 games and this one , this is a huge step up for me.
