what is the secret to not getting permanently banned from NeoGAF.com?

I cheated, lied, and haven't stole that much except attention and hearts. And lifepoints.

Back On Topic I'm glad I only got banned twice.

I think I've been banned four times.

1. Star Trek shit.
2. Other stuff.
3. Other stuff.
4. Other stuff.

It's funny that I think I've been banned four times but can only remember one instance specifically.

I still remember reading about Blame Space getting banned for peeing on a picture of a user's avatar. I read that entire thread just to relive it.

Best way to survive a minefield is to avoid it all together. It's been a while since my last ban, too. Which is good. Means I'm doing something right.

Same, can't go into heated or intense topics. Better to avoid it all together.

Making myself NOT the ROOT of a problem.

Well, one thing I learned from the Facebook group is you don't replace the "a" in cant with another letter in the alphabet. That'll get ya banned.

The secret is simple; don't be a donk, and you can even ravage gaming side with no ill effects.

Also GAF Gold but you didn't hear that from me...

Follow these two simple rules and you are guaranteed to not only never be permanently banned, you won't be banned EVER.

1. Don't post in gaming. Period. Just don't do it.

2. If you post an unpopular view, never respond to any more than TWO responses to it. Get in, get out. You get dragged into an argument with 15 posters all trying to take their shots, you will get banned. It's just how it is.

I would say, "don't be an asshole" but there's one or two posters I know on here who seem to be enormous dicks and get by well enough.

I'm beginning to think that bookending every post with "idiot" or "retarded" is ok.

#2 you make it sound like a logistical operation, and it kind of is lol.

I feel like my threads have been responsible for a lot of bans.

#2 is some of the most sound advice any GAFer could wish to come across. Good work Sir.

doesn't that predispose some kind of "hivemind", though? like what's an unpopular view.. whoever makes a stink?

it really changes with each thread. It always surprises me to see the same views that were vilified in the last thread going unchallenged all over the first page of the next thread on the same subject

Funnily enough, of all of the shit I have done on this forum. Whether it's the perpetual 'playful trolling', pissing off DiabloGAF, a heated argument with Frank O' Connor and the entirety of HaloGAF about dedicated servers or the time I made a GTAV thread claiming to have 'a new gameplay video' which didn't even turn out to be real. I have only ever actually banned for one post.

'360 port plz'

In the Tales of Xillia thread. I didn't even know port begging was a thing at the time.

So my advice? Keep your head down, be polite, be reasonable.

I'm actually more interested in the people who have been permanently banned and the posts that led them to it.

Thus far, the only guy I am aware of is that dude - Jbird I think, who pretended his girlfriend was missing in the woods or something and it was eventually revealed that she was actually just some random internet chick he was stalking.

I'd take a different approach:

.- post your unpopular view and make sure it's well constructed, well-articulated and serious.
.- leave, let everyone condemn you and call you all sorts of names and come back after a while, until the dust settles.
.- counter-argument one last time if there's something important you'd like to say, don't quote anyone. done

This is hilarious. I agree.

Too complicated. Yours is the path of self assured correctness that will make leaving too hard. They will pull you down, man.

Mmhmm.

I find it best when I have an unpopular opinion to take my time in responding, so I can respond to multiple posts in one post. If I were to try to respond to them individually as they came, it would become a mess of people responding to my clarifications and corrections and elaborations as I made them. I would end up feeling overwhelmed if I did otherwise.

But there is no particular reason you cannot post an unpopular opinion, argue it well, and not worry about becoming banned.

I post in gaming frequently and I've never been banned. Just remain civil and you'll be fine.
