What is this trend of starting videos/trailers with mini-previews?

It''s so stupid! Like, I'm literally watching the video or trailer, why do you have to put 5 seconds of something I'm just literally watching? Why do I need a mini-ad about the ad that I'm currently watching?

Sony is the one that does it the most with their trailers, but it also happens in Youtube videos an other trailers.

Why? I would like to know if there's a scientific explanation (probably pulled out of someone's ass) or it's just stupidity beyond my understanding.

Blame the zoomer generation, gotta titilate their ADD in the first 5 seconds or else they won't bother watching the rest.

I'm like that. Rather waste 5s than 10min.

I think its because youtube tried to move away from clickbait or misleading thumbnails, showing instead a quick preview of whichever video is in focus depending on the platform the youtube app is running on.

Viewers click videos that have interesting looking preview-thumbnails so youtubers might be trying to game that.
