What is Valve working on these days?

Some companies go years without saying anything about what they're doing. That's software development. It takes time.

Valve is a very different beast, that much goes without saying. Especially now they've got an OS, controller AND set of hardware being worked on, as well as VR stuff, all of which we also haven't heard anything about it ages.

There's a reason it's called "Valve Time", they have a way of somehow being more silent than any other company.

Working on socks instead of hats.

Source 2.0 needs to happen first and easier community design at the heart.

L4D3 first.

Half Life 3 could be an ambitious multiplayer game but Valve haven't figured it out and refuse to fall back to single player design. That's my guess.

For some reason this reminds me of the Game of Thrones author who writes with a DOS word processor.

Has anyone heard if they are doing Steam Dev Days again this January? The talks that came out of the last one are pretty fascinating. Overdue for an announcement if they are.

They haven't announced one yet. It was successful, but devs said they got the impression Valve weren't sure if they'll make one again next year. One of the possible reasons is they blew a lot of their gun powder for the first.

No, they're not. EDIT: This isn't an assumption, they flat out told me there is no steam dev days this year.

Valve are weird. They've released a bunch of games, however they only have one original series created by them which is Half Life.

Everything else they have made was originally created by someone else who was then bought by Valve or Valve bought the rights.

They're a very odd company.

and yet people call them the best developer ever along with nintendo. Nintendo atleast makes a couple of games per year.

Nintendo is also allot larger and already has a platform they need to release stuff for.

And don't tell me valve hasn't done shit, they have released atleast 1 game per year since 2004. 2010 and 2014 have been quiet years and I fully expect a new title in 2015.

Those games dont count. No one cares about Dota or CSGO. The numbers on steam can easily attest to that. /s
That was actually an argument used earlier in this thread.

Valve has more money than they could ever need. It saddens me that they aren't making Half Life 3 because they know it won't make as much as Team Fortress or Dota micro transactions. I wish they'd work on it out of passion.

They are working on Half-Life 3 though

Nintendo have 17X (5,213 vs ~300) more employees. They are compared due to the quality of their games not quantity. Valve are insanely prolific given their size tho.

Today was meant to be "Day 2" of the leadup to the new Dota 2 update and they didn't even update the site.

I don't think Valve wants to unveil an HL3 that isn't unlike anything we've seen before -- sorta how HL2 was back when it was unveiled.

I just don't know if that's possible anymore. We've seen everything. The bar is already so high.

And so they just don't bother.

I WANT HALFIE-LIFE 3. WHY VALVE NOT GIVE ME HALFIE-LIFE 3. WHY VALVE HATES FANBASE. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

- Valve Software 2014, Why doesn't Valve reveal what Valve is working on, pg. 1. Referenced 18/11/2014

My guess is that they are going to make it for VR. That would allow them to break new ground. Of course, to do that they would need to solve tons of massive design challenges.

If that's the case, there is really no reason to talk about it until there is consumer hardware available.

TI4 was like yesterday, they have the right to get some rest. ( and in february : They are now working on TI5 so they are far too busy )
