This. When I was 16 (11 years ago), I grossed about $16k (in a year) working 32 hours a week at the local grocery store.

Not sure how you're not making at least $4,600 a year... unless you're not even trying.

Well, to be fair, that poster could be going to school and working in the summer. I usually only cleared about 6000-7000 on the year while working in the summer (and a bit during the school year)

Yes, I was 16, thus going to school full time. After highschool I worked full time and went to school full time as well... it's not impossible.

Bolded the only part of that I find really questionable. What exactly is all included in that 'etc.' 'cause that's a lot of cash.

no I don't do hookers

mainly eating out, dates

Well to respond in support of Canova my "etc." bill is around 900+ a month but there's a lot of stuff that falls under that umbrella. Not everything happens every month but here is an idea:

Food - Home cooked/eating out
Cooking products
Cleaning products
Home products (Towels, sheets)
Exterminator
Entertainment - movies, games, sports
Travel
Tolls
Cash for boozing
Misc shit I want to buy

You guys would be surprised to see how quickly it adds up. Just this month I had to pay for two wedding gifts and for my car to be inspected, $250 right off the bat.

bingo! that 'etc' include home supplies cost

I don't think this thread is about "how much money I got" It just a snapshot of where everyone is, and its all mostly relative to your current stage in life. I think it's interesting, and stimulates conversation.

So

Mortgage/Insurance/Taxes: 1380.00
Cars: 727.00
Car Ins:
Budget Money:200.00(my wife and I allow each other 25/Wk for personal spending)
Fuel:250.00
Gas: 60-150 Mo.
Elect: 70-100 Mo.
Cell:90.00
Food: 400-500 Mo.
Cable/internet: 128.00 mo.
Water/Sewer 130.00 every three mo.
Entertainment is between 200-300, but it might be lower, we hardly leave the house.

NO CREDIT CARD DEBT.....PAY THAT FUCKER OFF, PEOPLE. CC companies are coming in thick and hard with no lube. I payed off almost 30K in 8 years, and a fuckton of interest. so go to it. If you dont have the cash, you probably don't need it.

In Canadian, and split with the girlfriend:

$450 rent
$150 food
$75 Entertainment
$50 bus fare
$50 phone/internet

personal debt:
$100

So my total is $875?

Things to take into consideration:
My girlfriend is going though a bit of a financial bump, so lets tack on $300 until that's ironed out. By next month (or the end of the month if I feel like it) that $100 in personal debt will be wiped out. And my friend/roommate will probably pick up a job by this month, and begin to contribute $250 bucks.

So realistically, $1175 is my expense
And ideally $650 is my expense.

You people who spend 3-5k a month, goddamn, sometimes I feel like I spend frivolously, but I guess you guys are still living within your means - and I am jealous =p.

Being in the military, all my bills are paid for.

The military gives me my rent and food money. I live outside base in a big, beachside apartment (3 bed, 1 bath) here in Rota, Spain.

The only bill I have is $500 going towards vacations in Europe.

I save about $2k a month (base pay + overseas COLA) and plan to buy a house outright when I get out, because mortgage payments in this thread scare me.

A lot of shit can happen during that 20 or 30 yr mortgage (loss of a job, divorce, expensive hospital bills), that is why I want to own my house outright.

Fuck the bank.

Rent: $345.
Utilities: ~$120/4 = $30.
Food: ~$80
Eating out: ~$30
Tuition: $36
Phone: $20
Insurance: $30

Totals: ~$571

I make about $150 a week, so I get by.

Rent - $200 (1 bedroom apartment) I'm on Section 8.

Gas - Free (On Section 8)

Water - Free (On Section 8)

Food - $100

Bus - $20 a month for everyday pass

Phone Bills - $30

So that's about $450 monthly. :lol

i really need more money :lol

i spend maybe 1k a month on necessities. save a little, spend a little.

well, simply put, I make enough to cover my expenses

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that your expenses grew to your income level?

The $250 a month for electricity/water/garbage really sucks considering I'm in a 1300sqf house. That's mostly due to us keeping the thermostat at 70 during hot South Carolina summers and only having single pane windows. I added a bunch of insulation to the attic and one of the rooms that didn't have any in the exterior walls and this year I'm going to put in all new windows around the house. They should pay themselves off in no time thanks to the reduced power bill and the 30% tax credit.

Take home is about $2,500 a month and I'm supporting a family of four.

Man we have this thread every month. I make a bit under $5500 a month (before tax) and I have $500 left over at the end.

Rent: $450
Utilities: $40
Gas: $40
Car Insurance: $120
Cell Phone: $88
FIOS: $29
Debts (student loans, credit cards, etc.): $575*
Food/Misc: $300

* - This is minimum payments, in actuality I am throwing a lot more at this to pare it down.

Living with roommates definitely helps. I'll tell you what though, I am one of the top earners in my social circle, and I still feel dirt poor thanks to this topic. :lol

Rent: $520
Electricity: $50 (kind of ridiculous that around $25 of that are outright inescapable fees, no matter how much electricity I use).
Phone: $32
Cable/Internet: $60
Student Fees (averaged across the entire year): $200
Food: $150
Insurance: $50

So, a little less than 1100. Too much, and I'm going to have to move somewhere more expensive next year. Fortunately, I'm getting a slight raise, but money will still be tighter.

That's because some (maybe a majority) of the people who post in these threads are showing off their income. It's like the post-your-picture threads sprinkled all over the internet; only the lookers post their picture because they're showing off.

I make ~$650 a month and I posted, so don't feel bad.

Two people and a dog in Toronto, from my Monthly Budget spreadsheet.

Rent: $861.46
Phone: $20.00
Internet: $41.00
Transit: $221.00
Groceries and Cleaning Expenses (overestimate, on average): $400.00
Eating Out (overestimate, on average): $100.00
Dog Food: $15.00
Laundry: $18.00
Total: $1,676.46

We have no outstanding debts, and our 'entertainment' cost go for a couple hundred bucks per month, at most. We save. A lot. :D

-Mortgage (includes home insurance and taxes): 1830
-Student Loans: 135
-car insureance for wife and I: 190
-car payment: 230
-Elec 50
-gas/water/trash: 100
-cell phone f/ wife and I: 100
-food: 400
-Gasoline: 200
-cable/internet: 100

comes out to about 3350 a month set in stone. We've been doing home improvement though so it's closer to about 4K a month right now.

Pay check to pay check baby.

Edit: can't forget ...

-Medical Chron: 120 :lol

Between my fiance and I:

Rent: 650
Cable/Internet: 100
Phones: 160
Electric: 100
Food: 300-400
Loan Payment and credit cards: 150
Car insurance: 50

So around 1500-1600 bucks a month minimum.

Mortgage: $1420
Cell: $85
Car: $280
Credit Card: $130
Student Loans: $130
Car insurance: $75
Electric: ~$200 average
Cable: $160

$2480 a month not county bi-monthly or quarterly bills like sewer/water/trash/etc

Mortgage: 1045
Truck: 575
Insurance: 149
Business Loan: 1460
Random Bills: 140
----------------

So about 3300CDN per month that's already spoken for...*sigh*. This doesn't include other things like food, booze and drugs.

Wow I thought I was bad.

Also, I really can't justify a new car between the car payment and insurance. I'm paying $200 a month for just insurance. Fuck you Bronx insurance!

Cell: 14$
Union fee: 20$
Rent: 240$

Those are my only constant monthly fees. Get most of my food for free so I'm free to do whatever with most of my unemployment "salary". I usually end up saving 90% of what's left each month so I'm doing alright. Saving up for University I guess.

These are the budgets I have set up on Mint.com:

Entertainment: $80 (basically my games budget, rolls over)
Alcohol/Bars: $90 (I spend more than this almost every month, but I don't track cash)
Auto&Transport: $155 (includes insurance and gas. Does not include tolls, which are around $80 a month, cash)
Restaurants: $270 (just reduced it from $300)
Groceries: $270
Everything else: $1400 (includes $900 rent, utilities, and all cash expenditures)

My overall budget is around $2300 a month. I spent about $300 over budget on a bad month, mostly on cash expenditures. I would say I support myself and my fiance on about $2600 a month total. I consider this as a fairly frugal living. I don't expect this level of spending to increase at all until I get married in six months, and will have to pay for my fiances phone, car insurance, and health insurance (at least make a contribution). After that, it may increase when I take on a mortgage. I'm getting a 25% raise in about two months, and I don't expect my spending to increase at all.

Edit: I should note that my fiance pays the rent every third month. She's not a total deadbeat. It makes up for the ~$300 a month I go over budget.

welcome to overpriced California(even more so when we bought the house in 2007)

But if you live in NYC, isn't that MORE than any where else in the US? I would love to move to NYC but a 1000 sq ft apt would cost me what- 500-600k in the city?(easily a 3-5k mortgage payment)

Ooo, this is fun. I fix my budget forecast once a month to make it more in line with what my actual budget numbers are doing. Here's the most recent.

I might have to adjust these further once we get the new electric bill, and our water and garbage are due every three months, so...

what? you think I spend my money on strippers and juicies?!? no way. I'm not stupid. Those places are fun for the first 2-3 times or bachelor parties, but no way in hell I want to be sugar daddy for those bithces.
