what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Currently switching back and forth between Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem Awakening. Got a silly schedule going on where I'll play one game for a day and switch to the other the next day. It's weird since it's hard to pull myself from EITHER game when it comes time to switch.

"Alright it's time to switch to SMT now... but man I just want to do a few more battles and get more support conversations!"

"Alright time to switch to Fire Emblem... but the story is going places and I can finally fuse this cool demon!"

So I'm enjoying both quite a bit and it's justifying my 3DS purchase very nicely.

I got the solution to your problem. Buy another 3DS so you can play both at the same time.

You can thank me in cash.

I need someone to help me make a decision, Resonance of Fate or Ni no Kuni?

With the former, I'm interested in the game but the reviews are dissuading me.
With Ni no Kuni, I really don't care about the game, but there's got to be some reason why it's so popular.

Didn't play Ni no Kuni, but from what I've seen and the feedback, it's a bit "my first jRPG: The Game". Beautifull game, but if you're familiar with the genre...

RoF I played and really liked. The gameplay is a bit hard to come around at first, but is quite satisfactory once you master it. I really like the first half of the game, where you more a less just follow the life of the three people of the group.
After that, the narration is really lacking though (in a nutshell, the narrative cutscenes are limited to the beggining and end of each chapter, and quite confusing), and the story is quite hard to grasp.

FF13. I really like this game. Don't know if I should bother doing all the missions after I beat the game though.

Whether you're collecting trophies or not, the Ceith stone missions is fun for a post game side quest. You don't need to do all of them, but most. There was only one really hard mission, I cant remember which though, its been a while.

Playing Tales of Xillia, about 30-35 hours in and at
Elympios, right after I defeated Maxwell and Gaius came in with Muzet to take over Maxwell's position.

Beat FFV last week, about 15 hours into FFVI now. V's class system was sooooo good. Wasn't into VI's system at first but now that I've gotten a diverse group of characters I'm enjoying it.

Story wise it's incredible the jump in quality from V to VI. I had a blasts with V but the production values and overall storyline in VI is just leagues above.

And Kefka, holy shit he's the most evil villain I've encountered in a JRPG yet. Can't wait to (hopefully) kill this bastard at the end.

Once I beat VI it's on to VIII and IX which I can hopefully beat before X comes out (Which funny enough is actually the first FF I beat). At that point I'll have beaten FFV-XIII.

Which of I-IV are worth beating?

EO:U

Bought EOIV during the holiday sale and played it to completion. The day I finished it EO:U went on sale for 50% off so I jumped right onto that. Really great games, though so far I like EOIV more mainly due to the Land's (Overworlds) switching things up.

FFIV, and if you play it and have the means, do the complete version they have on the PSP. It's so well done. The DS version is okay, but the PSP versions stays with 2D sprites and they are all redone and it looks so good.

I'm about 10-12 hours into EO:U. About on the 8th floor. I'm enjoying it, and since I beat the same back on the DS years ago, I figured i'd try out the story mode, and it's not actually that bad.

IV definitely is.
I is pretty good. It's short, and depending on the version you play can be pretty easy. It lacks a lot of the things the series become known for, but it's still fun.
II is alright. It has a weird "leveling" system, that I never quite liked, but it's a decent attempt at telling a story and kind of fun.
III has a job system similar V but it's not quite as good. 3 and 13 are the only FFs I haven't finished. Just got bored with them.

Tales of Xillia. So far so good.

Oh! And Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. Amazing, amazing game.

That is, to me, the best Dragon Quest game. The story is so good. I was enthralled by it the entire way through.

I've been playing through it as well, mostly in bed. It's pretty great.

The multi-generational approach of the game is something unique. The party chat works tremendously well and for the first time ever (playing an RPG) I feel a growing desire to recruit more "humans" into my party in order to get a retort to every NPC speech. Never before had I felt so compelled to sweep entire towns just to read what every NPC has to say.

I just killed
Mostroferrato's giant
and am about to continue my quest in order to
find Bianca and my Mother.

It is one of the best examples of portraying a convincing and engaging story despite the limitations of the medium. It puts several 3D RPGs to shame.

I'm playing SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked. Such a weird combination of typical SMT gameplay and Strategy RPG. I'm not sure how I feel about the fields. Seem a bit small for a good SRPG. At least I don't find the voice acting completely horrible, though I find myself skipping forward when I finish reading the text.

I'm also playing Project X Zone. Only started the prologue, so I don't have an opinion yet.

Ni no Kuni, Project X Zone and Pokemon X (if that counts). Have dumped the most time into Ni no Kuni by far - I'm done with the post-game content and at the grind for the Platinum stage of the game. It has really made me want to get back to the genre - the only problem is playing a bunch of 80+ hour JRPGs back to back is daunting.

SMT devil survivor is a great game just finished it myself not long ago, and the mechanics works surprisingly good.

FFXIII, chapter 7. The combat is interesting, but loosing its appeal since they keep shuffling my team. Getting tired of the constant flash backs too.

I'm finally up to the final boss in SMT: Nocturne (not the true demon ending one, though). Beforehand, I though that fighthing a boss with 60000 HP was pretty rough, but now I realise that I can deal up to 7500 HP damage with a single strike and that doesn't seem so intimidating anymore (that's Freikugel + Focus + maxed out Tarukaja + maxed out Debilitate + crit). Go Demi-Fiend!

Trying to get the platinum trophy in FFX HD. I need Wakka's last Overdrive but Blitzball is so boring, and I've gone through two leagues without his final Overdrive appearing as a prize.

Persona 4 Golden. About 7-8 hours in, and I'm enjoying it. Certainly hasn't "clicked" yet and I'm still not feeling some of the "one of the best RPGs ever" comparisons, but I know I'm still early. Still feels a bit tedious and I'm still not entirely sure how I should be dividing up my days/time in regards to dungeon crawling, going to clubs, doing jobs, working on social links, etc.

Tales of Graces F, amazing game. Too bad Bandai Namco never localizes Tales games.

Other than that, waiting for my precious Bravely Default and hoping for more Fire Emblem and Valkyria Chronicles.

Dead Space 3

alol. did he get banned because he didn't post a jrpg in this thread ?

anyways, i've been playing a TON of disgaea d2 since my last post, and i'm still playing it.

Already in postgame, got all the rank 39 weapons and just grinding to get the 40 ranked ones.

I'll probably be playing quite a bit of the srw games in the coming weeks since i just bought k,l, impact, alpha 2, alpha 3, Z and OGs.

Persona 4 on PS2 I'm about 15 hours in and haven't left the house today because of it. Currently in
kenjis dungeon
i just finished Persona 3 and I already P4. it fixes every aspect I hated about p3 and adds some nice subtle improvements along side. love the story more as well since it feels like the characters connect more. Has a Scooby door vibe too

Realllllly loving it right now

do whatever you feel would be a bigger priority first and foremost. Need some money/stat exp? do a job or go to club etc etc whichever helps and is the more fun too you. need to get your slinks up so new personas gain experience? Hang out with who you think is the coolest. That's how I do it atleast

I just started Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. I played this game years ago when it first came out for the Gameboy Advance. I'm surprised how well it translated into 3D. It's a much more visual experience. The cut scenes show alot of expression. You can really tell this game was made after Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 were released. The cut scenes are superior than those of KH 1.

Replaying Crisis Core. Game still looks and plays great. Zack is such a great character, and I love being back in Midgard but I'm 3D.

I dunno why this game gets so much hate. If you ignore the Genesis retcon, it's still a great companion to FF7.

Finished Ni no kuni which was my first jrpg, i liked it a lot allthough the combat was not very satisfying for me. Trying to figure out what jrpg to play next by reading forums, tales of xilia might be something that i will enjoy. I was hoping that i would find a game with the japanese audio track included but i am not having much luck.

Tales of Phantasia on my phone. I downloaded it because it free, just to see what it played like without a Snes controller. Didn't intend to actually be several hours into it.
