About 20 hours into SMT Apocalypse.
A great podcast game for me. Hard to beat the tried and trusted battle and fusion loop of an SMT game. Story isn't too interesting so far but im interested enough in some of the characters plus whatever Dagda's really up to.

Still chipping away at DQVII
I just unlocked Aishe
, I've also been having a bit of fun grinding vocations. I've just left Ruff on monster masher as his Scorch ability can one shot most mobs.

My next game will probably be Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE as I'm keen to clock that as it probably won't hold up well post Persona 5.

I was playing Tales of Berseria and loving every minute of it. Something about me is I save a lot in this game... I mean a lot. Well lets just say I was at the end of the game and saved it to go out. Well, when I got back my save was like 10 hours behind.... Needless to say I may not finish it anytime soon out of sheer anger.

I'm still playing Xenoblade Chronicles on WiiU. Never expected a boss to take me this much time to beat :
Fucking Gadolt
. The way to that boss and the next one felt like an eternity, the pace in this game is all over the place: sometimes you reach the next development of the story pretty fast and sometimes it takes you hours and hours. But after I beat
Eigil
, the story kind of exploded. It was so good! Right now I'm in
The Chest of the Bionis
. I have like maybe three major enemies to beat and I'm looking forward to seeing the conclusion.

It's very curious that despite both the characters and the story itself are all pretty tropey, the game has managed to kept me interested in what happens to the world and all the characters I've met.

Narrowed next game down a bit to one of:

Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht
Wild Arms Alter Code: F
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
Baten Kaitos Origins
Valkyrie Profile

Aww man the last 10% of the game ARE SO GOOD. I love the conclusion and the last areas. I hope you enjoy it!

Wild Arms Alter Code: F
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
Baten Kaitos Origins
Valkyrie Profile

My personal order:
1. VP - one of my all-time favorites
2. Baten Kaitos: Origins - this game established Monolith as one to watch, it's leaps and bounds over the original (I assume you've played the original)
3. Lunar 2: EBC - some dungeons that tend to drag on, but it has fun characters and was an impressive aesthetic treat back in the SEGA CD days (I only played it for the first time a few years ago)
4. Wild Arms: Alter Code F - an unnecessary remake of an otherwise great game
5. Xenosaga 1 - found it extremely slow and couldn't get into the plot nor the ~45 min cinemas

Seems Lunar 2 will be the game I beat after Breath of the Wild because I randomly started playing it. That is if I don't end up just buying Nier 2.

Is Legend of Legaia a game worth playing? I've been noticing people mentioning it on GAF a lot lately.

It's like Legend of Dragoon. Pretty B-tier PS1 JRPG but does cool things and was a fun part of my childhood, at least.

Also, one of the main villains is just basically Vegeta which is fun.

I must say that I am loving that SE still makes smaller games that fit my old man gaming tastes.

World of Final Fantasy (Vita) - trying to get the true ending. Very fun game so far.
I Am Setsuna (Switch) - Just started. Really enjoying the piano-based OST
Bravely Second (3DS) - Got bored with the demo so I jumped into the real thing. Liking the quality of life improvements for party loadouts.

First time playing IX? If so, I'm excited for you. It's not an 11/10 epic that some would call it but it's a damn fine game.

I just started Digimon Cyber Sleuth. Interesting stuff so far, though I've only played like an hour of it.

Yup it's my first time playing through it. I'm almost finished, hope to be done with it either tonight or tomorrow. I love the characters, story and world building but I feel like the combat is a bit too simplistic and the map is a chore to navigate. I'm playing on PC so I can use 2x speed and no random encounters so that's made up for these two shortcomings somewhat.

My first ever Final Fantasy game was X because I felt like the boss fights were so epic and I really loved the battle system in it. I know it's not a popular opinion but X is still my favourite one and don't know why it gets so much hate. I've played VII, IX, X, XII and XV. XV is definitely my least favourite one but I don't know how I would rank the other 3 yet.

Final Fantasy X is best Final Fantasy. i loved everything about that game.

I finally beat Xenoblade Chronicles. I started playing it back in December; my save had 96 hours of playing time, although the WiiU says I played it for 105 hours.

I was not expecting that I wasn't going to be allowed to save the game since the fight against
Dickson
. The final boss beat my ass several times and I was about to give up yesterday because I had to go out earlier today... which surely would've affected my final perception of the game, but I made some changes to my party, changed my strategy a bit and slowly started to beat each stage of the final battle until I finally emerged victorious. It felt so good. I guess that's the demonstration of how effective is the battle system, which didn't resonate with me tbh.

I didn't like the big revelation of the origin of the world... it felt unnecessary and rushed.

In the end I liked the game but I definitively feel it was lacking something: For every element I liked I could easily find something I disliked. While good I wouldn't rank it as high as I've seen many other people do; I could easily pick several games that surpass it in my personal favorite RPGs list.

I guess it's time to move on to a less ambitious rpg, or rest a little from the gender and get ready to play P5 again.

Ah, I'm surprised you didn't like the end as much, I thought it was great. XBC is #1 on my JRPG list, but yeah I see there's things there that aren't for everyone.

I'm currently playing Dragon Quest VIII, it's a nice relaxing change of pace. However, my 3DS microSD corrupted and I just lost about 15 hours from my last save backup! I'm super pissed, but I've been enjoying the game so much, I'm just going to play to catch back up to my lost point.

I have all Spring Break (I'm a teacher, not a student), I'd be surprised and happy if I could make up all the lost progress. I'm going to give it a shot.

I reset my account on xbox one and after redownloading my save files, I realized my lost odyssey save is an old one. I lost 20 hours or so of gameplay. I give up on that game for now :(

I started suikoden for the first time on vita. 2 hours in, the game is ok. The graphic is dated but so far so good.

Playing the post-game content in Dragon Quest IV. After that, I'm spoiled for choice. Do I start up SMTIV or play Majora's Mask to get in on the Zelda zeitgeist or plow thru the short and sweet Crimson Shroud that's been sitting there on my home- screen for nearly two years?

It's not that I disliked the ending, the big revelation felt that came out of nowhere tbh. I mean, it kinda explains the initial conflict but
both Zanza and Meyneth doesn't seem to be In an endless fight, because according to the story they just started fighting after Zanza took control of Argael... which happened like thousands of years after the Bionis appeared... and yet they say the telethia have been the instruments of destruction since forever...
I wonder if I'm interpreting something wrong.

They don't give you any clues that both the Bionis and the Mechonis are actually what's left of Earth until you find yourself going from Saturn(?) to the Earth and they show you that weird cutscene of a moment that should've been big because of its importance but that in the game seems so small and still destroyed the world.
It doesn't help either that I've seen that story before... it's kind of the big reveal of Crisis on Infinite Earths and Avengers vs JLA. The whole
the gods were surpassed by their creations
plot has been done better in other games too. One of my favorite games from the ps2/ngc/Xbox era did it beautifully if you ask me.

And while I think the battle system works pretty well there's something I don't like about it and it's the constant change of timing: you don't care about the timing of the input of some commands unless you have to... sometimes combat is real time and then the time freezes and then everything slows down and then it's real time again and so on. I really disliked that.

I know I may sound overly negative but the truth is I still consider it a good game, I just prefer other kind of RPGs more, like DQVIII actually.

Finished up SMT4 Apocalypse. Got the true/
lets all be friends happiness and sunshine rainbows
ending lol.

Overall it was really easy for an smt game. Now to chill until persona 5

Wow forgot all about SMT4:A... really want to get it but that RPG flood is in full effect.

Still playing Digimon: Cyber Sleuth and its gotten really interesting story wise! At chapter 14, and I think there are 18 total. But man that difficulty spike. There is suddenly a lot of character building and few new dungeons with more exp to grind at the moment but its coupled with a few randomly difficult bosses. I went along assuming I could just plot along easy like before but now its like "oh hey I hope you did not just de/digivolve" haha. Getting through it but been with my current team of mons for a minute and hoping to digivolve them into mega's/ something new soon.

Also plan to tackle the last few hours of Xenoblade Chronicles X this weekend or so. On chapter 11 but its been a solid 6 months since I last played it. Gonna blast to the end and start Nier: A hopefully will be all settled in for Persona 5 :)

Nier: Automata in the midst of route B. Game is absolutely fantastic (possibly the best game I've played since Xenoblade, and yes I like it more than BOTW), and I hear it's only gonna get better.

Guess I should really get back to Nioh and finish it already to make space for Automata before Persona 5 hits, huh. I expected it to be good, but these impressions are nuts... Can't put Yakuza 2 down tho!

Playing Devil Survivor Overclocked on 3DS. Just got to the third day, hoping to finish by the time P5 comes out but I doubt that'll happen.

Kinda stuck on what ending to choose....

I'm either in chapter 4 or 5 of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. But since the release of Breath of the Wild I haven't touched it. Zelda is coming to a close for me so I'm going to be coming back to it next week. So far I am loving the game. Being a massive Persona fan and not being against the idol atmosphere which this game oozes is a good reason why. I dig what this game is all about and frankly the combat is more fun than P3 and P4. In P3 and P4 there were times where it felt a little long in the tooth with how much time I was spending in the dungeons (I could have fixed this by playing on easy, but no thanks as I still like a challenge) and I just wanted to get on with the plot. In TMS I look forward to the dungeons and don't mind grinding. I think it's probably because my party levels up more quickly and I'm one of those "we all have to be the same level. No Child Left Behind" kind of guy. This was more time consuming in the latest Persona games. One thing the game could benefit from though is having a way to skip battle animations. Once the sessions become long it would have been great to have a button that simply skips to the damage animations for each session if I wanted to. and there are enough buttons on the controller for that. Bit of an oversight.

Every time I check in on this thread I disgust myself with how far behind I am on games...

Anyway, currently ACTUALLY playing, as opposed to "well, technically I'm playing it but haven't even thought about it for months/years":

Shadows of Adam (PC) - this won't take very long, it is super simple, but as a cheesy throwback to SNES RPGs it hits the spot.

Nier Automata (PS4) - just hoovering up sidequests now (which basically all have the same melancholy storyline, but are nonetheless entertaining), having done several endings already. I've had an absolute blast with it.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) - this is hard for people like me who are crap at games, almost off-puttingly huge in scale, and Nier has stolen my attention entirely recently. I haven't even made it to Impa yet! My Zelda backlog is already huge - I have yet to even PLAY Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess, despite having owned them for years (and now owning the HD version of the latter) - and despite loving the games I keep putting them off...

Persona 5 and Cosmic Star Heroine in the next few weeks (not to mention non-RPGs) are going to be the death of any attempt at a normal human social life...

Is the PC version of Nier a taxing game to run? I got a pretty old laptop with an nvidia Geforce 580M.

Anyway I'm on Chapter 5 of Trails SC. Excellent game, but I'm getting a bit concerned that I'll finish it before TC comes out. I don't want to play anything in between. Trying to take my time :)

Dragon Quest VI on DS (well, 3DS to be specific). I always hate how it takes so long before they give you access to the class system in DQ games that have one...

I'm just over halfway through DQVII right now myself... 100% agreed.
30+ hours of freelance-class JRPG gameplay is excruciating....
Enjoying it otherwise.

I started to play Nier: Automata this week. It doesn't look pretty but it's so weird and stylish I loved it. You were not joking: the music is great too. Many people will give me crap for it but I actually watched those summaries of what happened in Nier instead of playing the game (which actually arrived the day I decided to start Nier: Automata).

What sucks though is that I'm kind of in the middle of midterm exams: had one on Thursday, have one tomorrow and another one for Monday. I know the first one didn't go well, but I'll do okay in the other two. That means I haven't been able to play Nier: Automata despite thinking a lot about it. And the worst thing of all is that I took all those exams despite them not being mandatory nor are them a big deal for me, but somehow I still care (I want to keep learning foreign languages).

I am Setsuna.

Too much snow. Wish there were different seasons (Just a few hours in so I don't know if it does change)

Probably doesn't help that I'm coming fresh off Nier Automata.

Playing MS Saga: A New Dawn for the PS2.
MSSagacover.jpg

Brother.

Persona 5, the game is incredible.

Where the hell are you people finding it already lmao

Shame I don't have any mom & pop stores around here that'd sell games. Or any mom & pop stores, period. Doubt I could get the game early from supermarkets or Gamestops.

Project X Zone. I bought this at release excited at the prospect of it even being a thing. I enjoyed Namco x Capcom back in the day and this seemed like that and then some.

And then I was greeted with dozens of annoying, extremely easy and long tutorial maps. The game didn't seem to have any depth to it either so I just dropped it.

Now I was feeling like playing some simple handheld RPG and decided to try again, and made it past the point I left it... Actually there is some semblance of difficulty past chapter 10, character interactions are highly amusing and there's some fun to be had connecting combos and trying to maximize damage per turn, but god damn is this game awfully long. It has the worst map design I've ever seen in SRPG too, a lot of them are just a "wipe out all enemies" deal and can take a whole hour to complete, awful.

I've been playing for around 15 hours and just now I met X and Zero, c'mon! I'm sure they'll leave too, but oh well. The music kicks ass and I really want to see Phoenix, Maya, Kazuma and Majima in the sequel.

Beated Nier Automata.
I went through all three routes, and route C with A2 is my favorite route.
One of my favorite games this year. Now, I'm going to wait for Persona 5 to come out.

Still playing: Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS. I lost my save due to a corrupted SD, and now I am finally back to where I lost out. Which is okay because I got to redo my build and I like my builds on all my characters more than what I had before.

Thinking about: Dragon Quest V or Final Fantasy IX on iOS. I've played IX, it's one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. But I'm thinking of replaying it, because the speed hack on iOS fixes my biggest problem of the game, and its been a while and I dont remember it too much. OR Dragon Quest V. I've heard about the awesome story and that makes me want to play it, especially since I am enjoying DQ8 so much.

But is two Dragon Quest games concurrently... a little too much? I mean the battle system in DQ is not SUPER intriguing. I don't know if I'll feel bored out by doing two of those games at once. IX is $20.99 (weird price) and DQV is $14.99 on the App Store, I have enough for one.

Any thoughts? DQV (new) or FFIX (replay) ?
