what jrpg are you playing right now ?

EDIT: ha ha. Didn't realize I quoted from a page that was a while ago. Anyway, I'm not really playing an rpg right now. I might jump back in Dark Souls here in a little bit, or SMT IV. I've been putting things off from school and because I got a PS4.

Gameplay was still fun, fun enough to play it through once. Everything story, character, writing etc related was horrible horrible horrible though.

I'd like to try it again, last time I played it was around the release. I only have a PS3 now tho and ~20e is too much for the game, really.

I've played through the game twice actually. It's a very solid game in terms of mechanics and the usual Tri-Ace stuff. Voice acting is terrible, so play Japanese voices. Story gets better later on in the game, especially during the last leg when the 'Space Opera-like' stuff starts happening. :) First 15 hours are a grind though. Gotta make it through that time.

Just in case anyone was curious, I tallied all the top 10 non-Square RPGs mentioned in the first 4 pages of the following thread (it took awhile, and I even wrote a program to help me):

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=719927

I would say half of the mentions are JRPGs, and I thought maybe someone would find it interesting what non-Square RPGs (but including titles by Enix before the merger) people liked most. Here are some of the results:

There may be some mistakes here and there, but you get the general idea. I am pleased that Grandia received so much love!

EDIT: Also, that thread was closed, so I did not want to have wasted my time... that is why I am posting here.

Is Star Ocean The Last Hope really as bad as people make it out to be? I've always had a soft spot for SO games and been wanting to play this one lately but haven't picked it up due to people saying it's bad.

Its actually decent...just gotta trudge through the first 3 hours and get some in game progress

so I'm finishing up devil survivor overclocked...

currently it's etrian odyssey IV vs. SMT:soul hackers after that. which one is better?

Dunno about better buy Soul hackers is pretty short.
I beat it in under 25 hours granted I had all the easy mode stuff turned on (Game difficulty still felt just right though for me)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for me I'm playing Agarest: Generations of War on PC.
I'm enjoying the characters and story but mad I could care less about the battle system and other mechanics. Glad I can just cheat my way through all that.

After that i'll be jumping back to SMTIV I started it but have yet to play it.

Use only like 2 demons for dungeon crawling. Three tops (you can use a full party for bosses). There, no more MAG problems ever.

Yeah, I've started to pull back a little more and started making more use of Zeeds. Absolutely rolling in MAG now.

Almost at the end of the Monolith, I might go back and play some more Pokemon after this.

They're both good.

FFXIII.

I feel like I might be doing something wrong but, is the weapon upgrade system incredibly grindy?

I thought it was difficult to understand it at all until I realised it's just a couple of steps after watching some YT videos on the subject. I don't remember the game explaining about using organic materials to increase the multiplier, then using synthetic materials to upgrade. At first it just seemed like a huge list of item drops that it didn't explain had what effect.

Other than, loving it. Just have to settle in for a few hours of incentive chip grinding ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just finished Tales of Xilia. Every time I thought the game was over, they just threw in some new random thing. Annoyed the hell out of me. Mixed feelings about it overall. Very flawed game. Anyway probably start up Ni No Kuni next. I have no PS4 games :(

I still play Xenoblade every now and then, even though I've beaten it several times already. My characters are basically perfect in every way — I have the best gems, the best gear, fully-leveled Arts, max affinity between everyone, and so many affinity coins I've broken the game. It's awesome. I like to keep making NG+ games so I can get even more affinity coins.

I was actually just about to post that I was playing Soul Hackers.

Yes, it is excellent. It's not absolutely perfect, but the problems are mostly polish. For example, I've come across one or two bits of untranslated dialogue (minor things, not important story text or anything like that).

Combat is excellent, and demon fusion/negotiation is still sweet. I'm finding MAG a bit of a pain to keep up though, keep running out.

When I played I found the best thing to do is not summon all of your monsters at once... Just have the Hero, Nemissa and 1-2 demons out fighting. Then summon all the monsters during a boss. I didn't particularly care for the MAG system even though as a whole I liked Soul Hackers a lot.

I'm playing Graces F right now. At the final dungeon of the "main" game and doing all the subquests first. Hope to finish the main game soon and then Richard's game coming holiday vacation.

Playing Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and while I like the story and Disney characters so far, the Tarzan world was getting to me. Back and forth to the tree house was getting tiring and the heartless don't stop coming ever. I'll continue because I do like the story and the feels I get watching 90s Disney characters and my daughter freaked out watching me play and seeing the snow white floor. She was like WHATTTTT

I finished Dark Souls, finally, and am screwing around in the new game plus until my copy of Demons Souls arrives. Can't wait. Gonna try to beat Demons Souls before Dark Souls II comes out, and then the triforce will be complete.

The other games I'm playing aren't really rpgs.

Currently playing through Persona 2 IS portable, starting from the beginning, in my attempt to get another playthrough of 2-4(yep, no 1, not gonna subject myself to that again thanks) done before persona 5 is released.

I am also switching to Ys memories of celestia occasionally.

I just beat Persona FES and SMT IV, started on persona 4 and im kinda not feeling it.

Im sure it gets better on later, but it felt like it took a while to be able to fight in the dungeons and im not as interested in the story as I was for persona 3 (the whole dark hour mystery rather this murder mystery).

I also got put off by this (lack of a better term) 'teen drama' thing Chie and Yukiko had.

I wont dismiss the game though, ill keep on playing, im sure it gets better.

I'm playing both Persona 3 Portable and FFX but I'm focusing fully on the latter now as I'm facing the last boss.

Can't beat him though, and my party is a bit underlevelled( Lulu doesn't have Ultima or Flare, Yuna doesn't have Holy or Auto-Life). Any tips on the last boss or best areas to grind quickly?

Just started tales of the abyss, waiting for the combat to really open up, also im playing on 3ds and the skits are dead silent, kinda creepy, were they voiced on ps2?

You don't need ultima, flare, holy, or auto-life. Abuse Tidus's cheers to make your characters stupidly powerful, that's how I did it if I recall properly. Some of the details are a wash, but overall it's just a matter of keeping a high amount of DPS up while you keep cheering your team to the point where damage taken is low.

In Japan? Yes. Anywhere else? No.

Persona 4 Golden

I'm only at the 2nd dungeon and I can already tell the dungeon crawling is crap and will stay crap just like it did in Persona 3. I truly wonder if Persona 5 will break this trend.
No, it won't.

Thankfully I'm playing this for dem social links.

Just started Xenoblade. Doubt I'll ever be able to finish it though considering how long it is :/ Hopefully it really draws me in! Time to see if it lives up to its hype :p

I have been playing a ton of Persona 4 Golden lately. I was up to mid September and decided to reset, however, mostly because I felt I could have done a better job managing my Social Links (which I am). Amazing game thus far. I enjoyed Persona 3, but I really can see why people say Persona 4 is the better game.

3 months or so then an epilogue. The narrative will pick up big time shortly.

Dammit. I was hoping it would end at the end of the year.

Is there any point in going all the way up to the top of Tartarus? (Besides presumably leveling and finding better loot.)
