what jrpg are you playing right now ?

The Guiding Fate Paradox, was iffy about this at first and seen that people enjoyed the combat and story I decided to try it. Its actually pretty funny and tough, I really like the humor and how the game makes fun of itself or other things. I like the whole start your lvl over every dungeon, the weapons are pretty cool as well.
Also decided to try and get everything in Persona 4.

I liked the combat, the bonus board (which added a great risk/reward element to the combat), the environments, and the fact it was a bit more sci-fi than the other SO games. The alchemy system was vastly better than the one in 3... apart from the characters, I didn't like how grindy some of the sidequests felt (those MMO style "get 10 boar hide" ones) especially since some of the drops you needed for the alchemy were quite rare.

Just finished Dragon Quest 8 recently. I thought the localization was pretty odd and didn't like the character designs (the monsters were fine though). The combat was pretty boring outside of a select few boss battles. I liked some plot threads a lot more than I expected though. It was unexpectedly dark sometimes. Overall, I thought it was decent.

I tried playing Xenosaga Episode I today, but I think my copy of the game is bad. It keeps freezing when I try to get past the tutorial battle. :'(
 
I'm at the last chapter of FE: Awakening. I want to do all the paralogues and fight all the Streetpass teams but the game's started to get rather repetitive. I can trash through most battles with a few units and the battlefields are all same-y large maps.
 
Valhalla Knights 3 (vita) and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Reminds me of Phantasy Star Online with a heavy dose of sexual themes. I know it gets a lot of shit from people who say it's disgusting or juvenile or whatever, but I've never played anything quite like it and I enjoy it for what it is. It's not a perfect game, not by a longshot, but it's fun and I like seeing chicks running about in their underwear in the shops. It's been fun recruiting them and romancing them as I slowly build a party of Amazonian babes dressed in lingerie. I mean it just makes me laugh and brings a smile to my face.

Next up: Ys Memories of Celceta
 
Currently I'm rather enjoying Crimson Shroud on my 3ds XL if you'd count that. Certainly not a traditional "JRPG". I've also got SMTIV on deck, though I may wait until I see if I'm getting LBTW for Xmas as I suspect.
Anyhow, I do recommend you pick up Crimson Shroud especially as I think it's currently on sale for a bit longer.

This is my first time through the game (and my first Star Ocean). About 12 hours in, Claude is level 50-ish. Man, what a good game this is. It's like Final Fantasy 6 and Tales of Phantasia had a baby on the ps1/psp. The plot twists have been epic too.
Like while in Eluria Tower, Claude got transported back to the space ship by his dad. Only to find out the planet he is on is going to collide with another planet in 70 or so Minutes. His dad sends him back down despite it being dangerous. Claude, after being transported down, leaves his walkie-talkie behind to live on the new planet. After some fighting with the Ten Wise Men they get transported to the planet that collided with it. Too bad I didn't know Leon was going to get left behind in the collision like that. I even tried talking with him before going up to the last floor. >_> I was leaving him behind to mourn his parents then BAM death. I still feel bad.
 
I'm playing through a lot of PS1 games lately.

After I finished FFIX, I started to play FFVII and it's what I've been playing lately.
Even took a break from Pokemon Y to finish this game.

When I was younger, I never got past disc 2 because my disc 3 was scratched.
Now I will finally enjoy the entire game.
 
Tales of Graces F. It's no Vesparia, but still. Played about 35 hours now, and really had no idea I already spent that much time with it. Guess it is the battle-system which is fantastic.
 
I always hear such good things about P4Golden, Its one of those games that is always on my backlog that I never get too. Perhaps when I am finished with FF8 on Steam.
 
Goin through Persona 4 Golden again and trying out the various social links I didn't get to. Though I'm doing the same social links for certain people because they're still pretty enjoyable.

Hahaha as I clicked on this thread I was thinking how I might continue procrastinating on my 30 hr save in Golden and start FFVIII again instead (I've only ever finished disc 1).
 
Right now, putting an uncharacteristic [for me] amount of focus into Xenoblade Chronicles. That game is goddamn awesome, and has already held my attention for longer than any JRPG I've ever played.

I was out on a business trip last week, though, and I sunk many, many hours into Fire Emblem: Awakening. I've been meaning to go back since I returned, but XC has me held pretty tight.

If we count all the ones I've started as still "currently" playing, though... Shin Megami Tensei IV, Ni no Kuni, Kingdom Hearts HD, and Pokemon X. Wow, it certainly doesn't seem like as much as I thought it was when I list them.

Did you turn off the combat animations? As fancy and entertaining as they are, they're a huge waste of time when you just want to focus on the combat.


As for me, I finished Valkyria Chronicles a few days ago. Years worth of hype, a year in my backlog, and I can safely say it lived up to it. There's nothing quite like the feeling of finishing an RPG. After dozens of hours and growing attached to the characters, there's a sense of accomplishment but also that bittersweet feeling of having left those characters behind that we've grown attached to.

Really want to start Persona 4: Golden but I still need to finish Pokemon Y (on my way to the 8th gym) and Shin Megami Tensei 4 (about 15 hours in, after the bridge crossing part).

I hear that, particularly the ones that you want to catch for the Darwin Tasks. The last one you have to upgrade 3 familiars to the final form(All of which use your good Gem upgrades)

The only Familiar that I think is a must have are the Big Horns from the volcano west of Al Mamoon, they are resistant to physical damage so they are the best Tanks IMO.

the day before our vacation after all the crap that happens between the team and stuff about Mitsuru/Tartarus comes out.
I kind of messed up by not running the dungeon
right after finishing up the previous full moon mission
so now I feel like I'll have to rush to finish everything up in the next few weeks in game.

The fatigue system is probably the only aspect of the game I don't care for, even if it does add a layer of difficulty. The soundtrack has been solid, but I liked P4G's soundtrack better. The overall social links have been better too and seem to have more of an underlying story for most, while a few too many felt way too surface level.

At 40 hours, I have no hopes in finishing this game in under 100 hours.
 
I'm 50 hours into SMTIV but haven't had time to play it.

I was also 20 hours into Tales of Xillia before I set it aside. I need to go back to it but I honestly haven't had any desire to turn on my PS3 (or 360 for that matter) since the new generation launched.
 
So close to the end of Earthbound now - I'm back at Onett and I need a piece of the meteorite, it's all come full circle. :)

As much as I love the style, music, story and atmosphere of Earthbound, there are so many things I hate about the menu system, item storage, endless dialogue windows, yes/no questions in between selling every single item etc - It's really archaic and a huge pain. I would not go through this blood-boiling annoyance for a generic medieval fantasy RPG, it's really the unique charm of the series that saves it from being a very average, maybe even sub-par JRPG.
 
My problem with Jrpgs is that when I start one and don't stay with it and finish it I'll end up taking a break from it and when I come back I forgot EVERYTHING.
 
STILL playing SMTIV.

I must have spent a total of 30 hours just GRINDING so far. I think I have about 45 hours of gameplay in, and I'm like level 54 or something. Tons of cool demons in tow (mostly dragon-types). This game is getting good. Currently in Ginza where I'm about to find out
whatever Tayama's secret is. Kinda scared, lol.
 
6 hours into my third replay of FF VII

last one was about 10 years ago

still so damned good and the vita makes this the definitve version
 
Been playing 3D Dot Game Heroes, and while it definitely isn't anything other than a nostalgia throwback with a great artstyle, I feel like it gets unfairly criticized. It's lite and not exactly jam packed with content, but the sheer novelty and unique artstyle make me like it a lot.

I'd probably like it a lot more if I hadn't just played Nintendo's own retro throwback, Link Between Worlds.
