What kind of speakers do you use for your computer?

I think I've decided that my beloved Apple Design Speakers aren't really cutting the mustard for me anymore, but I'm not really sure what companies I should look towards for a replacement. If anyone has had a really good experience with some nice, compact little jams I would be very interested to hear about it. Also, how many of you guys use subwoofers? It seems like one would be a must, but I'm ignorant on such matters when they don't involve headphones.

Mostly I just want to be able to rock out to all the songs on my computer without feeling like I'm getting gipped on sound quality. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Been using them for about three years now and it's been the longest, healthiest relationship I've ever had.

Just some Altec Lansing 2.1 ACS46, I think. Good speakers. Never will get a 5.1 for my computer, I have never had / will have it positioned in a place where setting up rear speakers would be feasible. For a little better surround I just use my Sony MDRs.

I got the altec lansing 2.1 speakers, they work damn good for stereo sound, and the subwoofer really helps add that extra oomph when you want it.

I'm too lazy to find an image.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1
Best computer speakers on the market, kind of pricey though. Can't go wrong with the 2.1 speaker model either.
EDIT: Biff has good taste. :)

Those are amazing. If I had room for a 5.1 setup, I'd get them in a second. As it is, these 2.1's just blow me away. I can crank them up half way, and can't hear the person next to me. No sound breaking, everything is so full. I can only imagine what a 5.1 setup can do.

The thing I don't like about surround sound speakers is the wires. They really piss me off.

Yeah, it's a minor annoyance, but a negligable cost for really immersive sound in games and movies. I usually cram speaker wire under carpet edges or I pickup some cheap conduit from Home Depot to hide it - it's worked well for me for many years.

I have these at work and they look awesome. They're directional so you have to position them perfectly to get superb sound. I like them because they go with the modern ambiance of my office.

Yep, I've got the 497's also. Quite nice sounding, aren't they? Most of the time though, I use my speakers, Logitech Z-560 or something like that. They're OK, but I find myself listening to a lot of music on my Onkyo/JBL system, and the Logitech's just pale in comparison.

i'm currently only using the front speakers due to lack of space. i'm looking for some smaller speakers that'll produce better sound than these stock speakers.

These things rock, I only usually have them turned up about ½ there potentoal, and they sound great.

And I just picked these up for at night so as to not wake anyone...

And so far these have been awsome.

Seconded.

Although my dorm situation has forced me to go 2.1, it still sounds great.

Klipsch makes the best computer speakers. Clean bass, excellent highs.

I almost bought a set of Logitech speakers with a sub when they were on sale for the steal price of $30. But I figured I could find my speakers after my move. I did. Cheap Yamaha speakers, therefore, are still what I'm using.

I've had Harman/Kardon speakers for the past 7 years, and they are still incredible. I didn't buy them, actually; a friend of mine told me that his former job supposedly had dozens of these "lying around" in storage, as extras. As a result, I'm not sure how much they cost (either back then or now), but they are, to my ears, at least as good as my friend's brand new Altec Lansing speakers (though I'm no audiophile). It retains its clarity at extremely high volumes also. Great little set of speakers. :)

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
I use a 5.1 Aiwa receiver. Dunno why people use PC speakers.

I only have 2.1 for the computer -- no room in my bedroom/computer room for a 5.1 setup, and I doubt it would be worth the hassle anyway since I have a great 5.1 setup for my home theater.

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Klipsch 2.1 myself.. only problem is, whenever I try to turn up the volume, I hear a "pop" distortion sound...

OMG, sweet setup, am i rite? I remember when every two-bit computer shop in town was including these bad boy Juster speakers with their setups. I'd say they're about on par with a 1970's mono TV speaker.
