Nostalgia. Such a powerful but painful feeling at times. It reminds us of all the good times, and it really does suck that we can't get some of those moments back. I just wish I knew at the time how special things were, life moves so fast.

I'll start with three of my favourites:

Perhaps the best Windows OS. I just loved everything about XP.

It transports me back to those sweet gaming memories. Resident Evil 1 gave me the creeps.

It cannot be replaced. Sure, there is Discord now but MSN Messenger was just special. I even miss those annoying winks people used to be able to do.

Tons of stuff, mostly music. I was just listening to this beautiful song from 11 years ago, and man... it takes me back.

Music is the big one. I don't want to sound too emotional, but I almost get moved to tears hearing some tracks. Especially really important and special ones. You just get overwhelmed by the sensation of wanting to go back, I guess. I know the music to Halo always gets me, it just takes me back to late night gaming memories with online friends who have been offline for years. I never said goodbye to them. You form so many memories with so many people, and then you all move on in your separate ways.

I don't even want to watch it for too long. It pains me too much. Happy nostalgic pains.

The smell of European cathedrals and their oud'y holy water.

Cigarette smoke, reminds me of the 90s when almost everyone smoked, and the 90s were a simple time for me.

Water tinkling in a forest.

Duck scum on French ponds after rain

The pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire soundtrack. Find the 2hr+ version on YouTube... It's a masterful impressionist, fantasy soundtrack that makes me miss times and places I've never been. It's like Debussy meets Morrowind.

Age of Empires 1 and 2 original scores.

That acoustic motif in OG Diablo's Tristram.

Homeworld soundtrack.

WoW human starting zone soundtrack.

Sim City 2000, 3000, 4000 music

What I hate the most, is live nostalgia, meaning I'm living something right now that I'll know I'll be nostalgic in the future for.

You don't realise what you have until it's gone. I try to make the most of the experiences I'm having now, as I very well could miss them years down the line. Hell, I'm already feeling nostalgic over some stuff that only happened a few years ago. Just seems to go quicker as you get older.

Anything that reminds me of my mom who recently passed, old friends i've drifted apart from, or ex girlfriends who despise me for one reason or another. Especially the girlfriends.

Objects and media don't do it for me as much. I'll always find one back alley or another to access that shit. It's the people.

Sorry to hear about your Mom Teezzy. I lost my Aunt recently. Movies and music she liked really reminds me of the good times, but it's definitely hard to watch/listen to it. Certain foods trigger it too, she was a great cook and some smells just remind me of her instantly.

I'm not any good at picturing people, like you are aware, but smells are the main thing for me in regards to people probably. Maybe they wore a certain perfume/deodorant for example.

Lots of stuff. Movies, video games, tv shows, etc.

Love this soundtrack. One of my favorite PS2 games. I grew up reading HP books, watching the movies.

Halloween in the 90's/2000's was legit. Some of my best memories growing up was watching Goosebumps, going trick or treating around my neighborhood. Still my favorite Holiday. Anything horror/scary from that era is good vibes.

American Idiot is the soundtrack to my kid years. Hung out with the other kids in my neighborhood all summer, riding bikes, skating, swimming at the pool, listening to this album on my iPod (downloaded from Limewire of course lol).

I miss when life was more simple, pre-social media, pre-smartphones

I like to watch walkthrough videos of old stores and malls, especially from where I grew up but not exclusively. Great for watching in bed.

This guy does it the best of any I’ve found:

I love watching the Dead Mall series by Dan Bell, also. It is crazy to see these malls once thriving with life just so empty.

I had one of these as a kid over 30 years ago. Some sounds will remind me of it and to this day, it's start up jingle is still stuck in my head.

I used to spend literally hours at night just talking to random people. The conversations were never any special, but there was just something about I guess. People felt more connected by then. Social media was meant to connect people more, but it honestly did the opposite.

It was great, small window you could run at work without getting noticed you were just chatting with friends. Who were equally bored at work.

Any mention of Okinawa, seeing folks in military uniforms, a lion mascot drawing. Gaming wise it would have to be ps1 and ps2 systems, though not that much anymore since the nostalgia seems to be fading for it. Tenchi muyo and princess mononoke use to rent those from the library when I was a kid. Libraries were crap at monitoring what anime should be rented out to kids back then so pretty much anything they had from kids stuff to 18 and above was okay to rent since it was a cartoon. Gaming magazines like gamepro, gamefan, and electronic gaming. Newtype anime magazine. I've been cleaning house and tossing and selling just about everything that isn't a must except for anime and saw a couple of newtype magazines. We really did use to have some great magazines back in the day. Anime and gaming news comes at you daily. It's nice but I miss the old days of just sitting down and just going through a magazine. It's probably why i like having those E3 or special conferences to get hyped over stuff for.

Pretty much my relatives are farmers and I spent lots of time working on a farm as a child and teen.

So the smell of freshly cut grass, hay or when I walk past a cow stable it makes me feel nostalgic. The taste of certain beverages we used to drink while we were working or such things.

I know this sounds odd, but I am that old, my first computer was an Amiga 500 when I was 13 years old and until I was 17 I still spent most of my time outside.

Most of my childhood memories are connected to learning how to drive a tractor, working on my moped, or such things, the nerd stuff came later, when I left my valley in the mountains. It is so strange when I think about it.

I'm gonna be honest.

I dont have much nostalgia for the 80's and 90's. Shit was rough, I was poor and my family was trash and then in the 90's I was so deep into drugs I dont remember much lol

Take me back to 2006 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was 27 and finally in my stride career wise. First house and such.
My son was 5 and silly little monster. My best friend, who's old lady now, wasn't born yet and we hadn't even met (my dog 😁)

Nov of 2006 and we entered 'THE HD GAMING AGE!!"
This gives me nostalgia

The system wars! And by god I went with the god damn PS3 lol
Arguing on TeamXbox, trying not to get banned other places 😏

Taking off of work to watch E3!
Warhawk matches!!
Playing the 'inferior' CoD and the Lobbies!!
I dunno... it was just 'different' and while the Ps4/Xbox One/Ps5 etc.. are all great..
I'm honestly trying to rebuild a Ps3 collection lol
Even the shitty games!

2006-2007 was just GREAT
