What RPG to play next?

Out of the following RPGs:

Parasite Eve (PSOne)
Dragon Quest VIII (PS2)
Valkyrie Profile (PSOne)
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (PSOne)

And although I don't own any of these... yet.

Grandia III (PS2)
Shadow Hearts 3 (PS2)
Tales of Legendia (PS2)

I like good stories and I would be curious to know about estimated length as well.

DQVIII is the best of those but it doesn't have a super cutscene intensive story so I dunno maybe you would like VP.

I know there's already been a thread on it, but is Shadow Hearts 3 at least worth it if you're a fan of the series? I know that all 3 of those rpgs (sh3, legendia, grandia 3) are supposed to be mediocre, but is shadow hearts at least worth it if you're a fan of the 2nd one?

Besides, it takes 70+ hours to complete. :lol

LUNAR 2! And then Valkyrie Profile...and then DQ8 because its amazing but takes more time than those two, which are must plays also.

Maybe if you rush! My savefile is well over 100 hours.
If you haven't played Parasite Eve and want a not so long RPG, give that one a shot. I love that game. I endorse the top 4, haven't touched the bottom 3 yet.

Valkyrie Profile gets the strongest endorsement, followed by DQ8.

I also give a negative endorement to Lunar 2.

I'd play DQVIII personally.

I'm also wondering what to play between Actraiser, Paper Mario and Shadow Hearts Covenant
Play all three. Seriously though Shadow Hearts is the pick of the litter. the other two are good though.

EDIT: In response to the original query, Parasite Eve and Dragon Quest are both awesome. Lunar is so-so and I have only played some five minutes of VP.

I know im in the minority, but id have to warn against DQVIII. If i were you id atleast look into the negatives with it before playing. I wish i had done so.

from your list ill say parasite eve just because its more likely to be a change from what you last played.

Parasite Eve was a really interesting game, and I'm kind of upset that Square never took the concept further (although the Shadow Hearts series seems to do the 'RPG in modern day setting' idea pretty well).

I wish more RPGs experimented like Parasite Eve did. Fantasy to me feels all the more fantastical if it's in a setting you can relate to.

Is MS Saga good for someone who is not familiar with the license of which it is based on?
You don't need a thorough knowledge of the Gundam universe to enjoy the game, but I think it helps to have some sort of affinity for giant robot type games (e.g. Armored Core, Phantom Crash, etc.) as there is a lot of micromanagement and customization involved with the mobile suits.

Other than that, it's a pretty straightforward "old-school" rpg.

Valkyrie Profile and DQ8 are the best out of the ones you listed... I haven't played Grandia III or TOL yet. Actraiser is pretty short, you might want to play that while playing another, longer game in the background. PE can be beaten in like 12 hours, at the most... depending on whether or not you want to do the painfully boring extra dungeon, which takes about 10-20 hours or so to finish.

Just restarted Valkyrie Profile (played ~2 hours or so previously) last night, it's good but a little weird. It's definitely somewhat different, but it's very refreshing at the same time.

Gotta be ready for Silmeria!

If you played and enjoyed Lunar 1 already, may as well finish Lunar 2. It's an awesome sequel that really lives up to the first.

Otherwise, surprise surprise, Valkyrie Profile!

Edit: Ancestor, you'll get the hang of it and be pulling off 30+ hit combos in no time! :D

dq8 is not only long, it's sloooow. be prepared to wait for a lot of menus to load while you're at it. on the other hand, it is also suprisingly rewarding.

Well, I've started up Parasite Eve and I'm at the beginning of day 3 now. It's very... interesting. It's got my intrigued so far, so I'm definately going to venture further in.

As for Lunar 2, how does it compare to the first? I *liked* Lunar, and for some reason or another, I even forced my way through Lunar: Dragon Song, so I figured its about time I gave the sequel a chance.

The similarities between Lunar 1 and 2 are overwhelming. If you enjoyed Lunar 1, and the propect of more of the same sounds exciting rather than frustrating, then you'll probably enjoy Eternal Blue.

(but probably not as much as DQ8 or VP in any case)

QFT. Lunar 2 was an incredible sequel to Lunar. The battle system is largely the same but moves faster, the music is Iwadare's best soundtrack, and the characters / story is just as good, if not better, than Lunar.

You really should try this game out. Even before Valkyrie Profile. :O
