Well, for a start you're missing Viva Hate, Kill Uncle & Bona Drag as far as Morrissey albums go...Then there's the recently released Live At Earl's Court album...

Woot, this reminded me to pick up the "Who put the 'M' in Manchester" DVD that just came out.

*another silent prayer for "Live in Dallas" and "Hulmerist" DVD's before I die*

Also, you should probably get "Rank", although it's not the best live album you'll ever hear. Actually I prefer Moz's 'Beethoven'. I still... cannot... speak French. I am... very... lazy...

Meat is murder

Strangeways, here we come
Sweet and tender hooligan
The queen is dead
this charming man (single i think?) - this is the one with Work is a Four-Letter Word, no?
Rank - live album
The World Won't Listen - import "best of" kinda thing... only song I've not seen on other albums is "Money Changes Everything"
and if you get into singles, forget it... there's like a billion different covers and tracklisting differences by region, etc

Moz
Beethoven was deaf
Introducing Morrissey
My Early Burglary years
The World of Morrissey
Vauxhall and i
You are the quarry
Your arsenal
Interlude
Viva Hate (the centenary edition comes in a slipcase with a booklet and has extra tracks (which are all on MEBY, iirc)
Southpaw Grammar
Kill Uncle
Rare Tracks
Maladjusted
Bona Drag
There's two boxsets of singles, 88-91, and 91-95. Both have some tracks I haven't seen on other albums.

edit - for dvd, there's Oye Estaban for his solo work, just a collection of videos.

I'm sure shoplifter knows of more

Hulmerist and Malady are both out, but they're only available in Europe afaik. They are, however, region free iirc.

Yeah, aside from the stuff already mentioned, you're really just missing the slew of singles that exist in multiple forms depending on where they were released.

I'm also waiting for an 'Introducing Morrissey' dvd, that tour was outstanding.

And yes, BUY KILL UNCLE.

edit: and the DVDs...where else can you get classics like

Morrissey001.jpg

Morrissey006.jpg

(that record shop is really fucking cool btw, I made my wife go there with me)

Morrissey007.jpg

and I sat in that chair in that window

Morrissey009.jpg

The%20Smiths003.jpg

and where oh where would we be without

The%20Smiths.jpg

\/\/ but i'd argue that Best I and II are a better overall package aside from 'I Started Something I Couldn't Finish'.

You definitely need to pick up Viva Hate and Southpaw Grammar for your solo collection. Both are great. Bona Drag is also worth a pick up.

For the Smiths, you need Singles, it is - as the title suggests - their singles compiled onto one disc in chronological order. It's a great disc, and even if you have all the songs individually (it sounds like you do), still worthwhile.

im asking btw because in that concert there was an instrumental i hadnt heard before and wanted to know the name.

I don't know the concert you're speaking of, but the instrumental is probably either "The Draize Train" (available on Rank) or "Money Changes Everything" (available on The World Won't Listen).

My guess is it was the entire Rank concert. That's the only Smiths concert I know of the BBC playing in the past.

I'd add Kill Uncle to the list, but it's probably not a good choice for Moz noobs.

100% Agree. I listened to Vauxhall and I so much as a young teen that my mom took it away day because she was sick of hearing it.

Smiths:

Smiths (debut)
Queen is Dead
Louder Than Bombs (or Meat is Murder if you want to skip compilations, although LTB wasn't really a compilation in NA at the time because the other albums weren't available)

Morrissey:

Your Arsenal
Viva Hate
You Are the Quarry

Not an absolute top 3, because I tried to get a wide range of their output (which is why I picked Quarry over the probably better Vauxhall and I).

Live at Earl's Court is great.

I don't know if you made it to any of the shows from his recent tour, but his voice sounds amazing. It's matured like a fine wine, or something.

The Queen is Dead - not just a classic Smiths LP, but a classic LP full stop. Every song is wonderful, from an absolutely blazing opener to the beautifully absurd "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others".

Vauxhall and I - Beautiful and reflective. Morrissey's most mature (and I mean that in a positive way) with or without the Smiths. "Speedway" and "Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself" are both amazing.

Strangeways, Here We Come - Patchy, but cuts like "Death of a Disco Dancer" and "Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me" save it. Not to mention what is quite possibly my favourite song ever, "Stop Me if You Think You've Heard This One Before".

By the way, You Are The Quarry sucks. The music is bland, and the lyrics are nowhere near as clever as they want to be.

Sort of on topic but does anyone know where I can watch videos of either The Smiths/Morrissey. Have either released any DVDs worth buying? (The other day, I saw this awkward one about some obsessed fan)

Only clips of stuff I can find are at Mtv.com. Also, Morrissey is SO lipsynching during that live performance of Shoplifters of the world (looks like it could've been a performance from SNL or something).

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
Please don't cry
For the ghost and the storm outside
Will not invade this sacred shrine
Nor infiltrate your mind
My life down I shall lie
If the bogey-man should try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
To tease, torment, and tantalise
Wavering shadows loom
A piano plays in an empty room
There'll be blood on the cleaver tonight
And when darknesss lifts and the room is bright
I'll still be by your side
For you are all that matters
And I'll love you to till the day I die
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Ceiling shadows shimmy by
And when the wardrobe towers like a beast of prey
There's sadness in your beautiful eyes
Oh, your untouched, unsoiled, wonderous eyes
My life down I shall lie
Should restless spirits try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
I once had a child, and it saved my life
And I never even asked his name
I just looked into his wondrous eyes
And said : "never never never again"
And all too soon I did return
Just like a moth to a flame
So rattle my bones all over the stones
I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns
Oh, see how words as old as sin
Fit me like a glove
I'm here and here I'll stay
Together we lie, together we pray
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Mine
Climb up on my knee, sonny boy
Although you're only three, sonny boy
You're - you're mine
And your mother she just never knew
Oh, your mother ...
As long ... as long ... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
As long ... as long ... as long as ... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
Oh ...

i think this concert was a bootleg or something :( it was a good concert too :(

Was it live like in a stadium, or very clean? Could it have been the Peel Sessions? There was a LP of their appearance on the John Peel show.

Hatful of Hollow and The World Won't Listen are such groovy collections.
