The Inside Track
I was reading a post on the gaming forum about someone speculating if people would by an incredibly powerful PC like system that would not be backwards compatible with the current x86 cpus. That got me to think about how many software (besides the usual Microsoft apps of course) I use daily on my windows machine. Lots of people use different tools for the same results, so I thought it would be interesting to see (and maybe discover some new tools) what you guys use.
As for me, on this machine I use daily :
Always running
- Total commander <- this is the first application I install after a fresh windows install, can't live without it.
- Firefox
- Thunderbird
- Trillian
- Virtuawin (virtual desktop ala fvwm)
- Bitdefender (antivirus)
- Azureus
- Sipps (voip phone)
- Exceed (X window system for windows)

Running when needed, but almost daily
- Virtualdub
- Virtualdubmod
- Avisynth
- Virtual VCR
- Media Player Classic
- Winamp
- VNC

I know I have a rather special setup, but it works great for me.

What about you guys?

Cool topic.

Always running:

KDE (my X window manager of choice)
KWeather (just runs in my toolbar, gives me weather updates)
Gaim (similar to Trillian)
PureFTPd (FTP server ... I find it better than the standard 'nix one)

Usually running:

BitTornado
XMMS (Winamp clone)
Firefox

Programs I use often:

The Gimp (similar to Photoshop)
KATE (advanced text editor for coding)
OpenOffice (office suite)
Xine (extremely functional media player)
RDesktop (remote desktop ... I like having access to programs used on the windows computers at school)
KBear (good graphical FTP program)
ssh (remote login to my CS account at school)

Firefox, an IM client, email client, a text editor, a *good* terminal emulator, and a media player for Air America.

Everything else is fluff.

Firefox and its many extensions
Winkey
Virtual Dub
Nero
Agent Newsreader
Outlook
ACDSee
Media Player Classic
AdMuncher
UltraVNC
Notepad

Probably some others I'm forgetting just because I'm so acustomed to using them...
