"You know how many kids around the world are happy right now, because the Academy finally agrees with them and has the same sensibilities? They wanted it for Star Wars; they wanted it for Raiders.

That's in Sean Astin's stupid book, which is basically him whining for 300 pages that Sam wasn't in LOTR enough.

Geez

I think Sam was in the movie too much

Heh, Sean Astin never heard of LOTR before his agent called him about the audition. It got so bad that Jackson had to have a private sit down with him to explain that Sam wouldn't be the major star or even that important until the third movie. Astin then explains that he didn't like ROTK at first because they cut out the Sam scenes that are in the EE.

I seriously doubt he complains that much. Sam has arguably the top screentime along with frodo.

The entire book is a big complaint that Sam wasn't in the movie enough (and that he wasn't paid enough at first).

He throws a fit because he tried to get Jackson to put Sam sitting next to Frodo in the Council of Elrond scene.

:lol
Doing that would of made him seem even more invisible than he was in that scene.

At least he gets the spotlight on him when he pops that fat head out of the bushes.

I really dislike Sean Astin. >_< He's fine in the movie, but anytime I hear him speak in the Appendices or on the commentaries I want to claw my eyes out.

Star Wars and Raiders for best picture/director/actor/screenplay? They were highly entertaining movies but they weren't the best in those catagories. Really I think that ROTK got so many nods because the previous two were generally overlooked. The LOTR trilogy is one of the most amazing accomplishments in modern cinema though, so ROTK getting what it got was acceptable...even though Cold Mountain was better overall.

ROTK just seemed like there was too much info to fit into the time that it was on the screen that many important parts were brushed over way too briefly or not even looked at, so you were getting bits of info about this and that but never a whole lot.

The EE fixes that a little bit, but also ruins some of the original work laid out in the original release such as with the army of the dead, and the rohirrim.

Fcuk LOTR, Encino Man is where Sean Astin really shined.

heh, he talks about Encino Man in the book. Pauly Shore is all an act and the actual guy is apparently brilliant at working the system.

Dead

well not really...yet
Cold Mountain certainly doesnt deserve an Oscar Nod.

And only FOTR deserved a nod as well as a win, but I accept why they rewarded ROTK instead.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
Rudy and Goonies must have really done a number on his head, sounds like he's truly full of himself.

It's all about Dish Dogs. He goes from Shannon Elizabeth as a stripper to marrying a hobbit and having gaysex with another hobbit on the side.

Astin has ALWAYS been a pretentious and incredibly self-important fuck. You can hear his giant ego in every interview on the EE discs, so I have no problem imagining him whining about Sam's screen time.

Mama Smurf

My penis is still intact.
He did direct an Angel episode, so he can't be so bad.

FOTR is a fucking masterpiece. The other two are just good.

I saw some snow terrorist movie on T.V. coupla weeks back, where Sean Astin went up against a bald Bruce Cambell. There was was snowboarding! Gnarly!

RotK didn't deserve most of the oscars it recieved. Best editing? Psshyeah right. Anyway, the Oscars are worthless...it's nothing more than a poll taken by a couple thousand people.

Fixed it for you (and Sean)

I'm so glad we're finally past all this LotR shit so they academy can give awards to films that deserve them because they're good and not because they were snubbed the previous two years.

The thing I absolutely detest about "A Beautiful Mind" is that it is one of those obviously "manufactured for the Oscars" films - mental condition, check; hidden genius, check; love interest, check; director who hasn't won an oscar yet but many people think he should have, check.

I love the seires, but I don't think the script was too good. It's probably just me, but it never seemed like anyone really said anything that mattered. :/

I really dont understand Spielberg's quote, what is he talking about?

He's talking about how RotK winning is a triumph for fans of Star Wars/Indiana Jones/fantasy films in general, since it's the first time a film of that sort wins the Oscar for best picture.

About ABM, there's no doubt in my mind that it has better acting, writing and directing than any LotR movie, specially the last two. It's just a better film. FotR was more "entertaining" though. I really like them both, though.

Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark were both nominated for best picture. So with Return of the King winning best picture, nerds can finally stop whining.

You win Jett.

Ive heard this bullshit before, and it doesnt get any less rediculous.

They strive to make the best movie they could while basing it on the life of the real life John Nash - it makes for an interesting story.

Manufactured for the oscars? Who gives a fuck.

Hey lets make a film that wont be well recieved by anyone! Score.

Anyways...if you watch the making of featurette of his little short film on the Two Towers DVD you can see how much of an ass he really is and that the cast and crew really coddle him.
