What!? The PSP has color bleeding in the Jap launch units?

Going by this image, there doesn't appear to be any kind of bleeding at all.

Honestly, I think IGN simply has some uninformed people working there. It's a shame, maybe Rally X has some sort of graphical errors/issues, but IGN calling it color bleeding is probably just flat-out wrong.

So...those are what the infamous dead pixels look like. Shit, that'd drive me fucking crazy.

Dead pixels suck, especially on a super high-res screen that looks as good as the PSP's. If those two pixels are dead pixels, I'd bring the PSP back.

The trouble is, depending on the company, a device may not be taken back because of a dead pixel or two.

Samsung has a great policy. If you find 2 or more dead pixels, you can bring the device back for a new one.

Quite true, very very few companies have any thing like a zero dead pixel policy, before or after manufacturing. I say get used to it, especially if you're getting your hands on something that isn't available in large quantities. It's going to reccur again and again.

Hell, if my PSP had 5 dead pixels, and I was one of the only 200,000 owners... I don't think I'd be complaining. Perhaps if I paid $500+ for one, but you really should have looked before you leaped. :P

I figure I'll keep the inevitable holiday gift cards around until March, and then just let my relatives take the leap for me. :P

You shouldnt have to deal with dead pixels. I sent my monitor back when it had a red dead pixel. That was a year or two ago.

Yeah, if he's referring to ghosting, that was expected. I have yet to encounter an LCD that is as free of ghosting as a CRT. It's one of the reasons I refuse to buy an LCD monitor for my PC...

Load of crap. Todays LCD monitors are free of ghosting. Its an old LCD issue. GBA's screen doesnt even ghost. I assuming its because of the game. RR has alot of blur.

Wrong. Today's LCD monitors still have ghosting. There are still plenty of monitors out there with a 25ms response time. Especially on 19 inches or bigger. Most of the lower response times are only on the smaller LCDs.

Would you buy a good LCD or a crap one?

A high response time doesn't neccessarily mean a crap monitor. Usually the ones with low response times have to sacrifice something (like lower color depth).

Wrong * 1000

Trust me Deg, I've done a lot of research. I've tested many high-end LCDs in my search, and they ALL ghost. Either you are unable to detect ghosting for some reason, or you don't really know what to look for...

Don't get me wrong, LCDs have made major strides with addressing the problem...but it still exists in all LCD products on the market.

I play pc games on my LCD monitor. I have 'never' ever noticed any ghosting in any form. Moving from CRT i didnt notice anything. The only problem i have with LCD's right now is the black/grey levels mainly.

YOU didn't notice anything, but I would bet money that I would notice. Do you realize how many people have claimed that THEIR LCD does not have ghosting issues (knowing how much it bothers me)? Yeah, in EVERY SINGLE CASE, there was ghosting. You're lucky that it doesn't bother you. It seems that only the REALLLLLY severe ghsoting present in older LCDs is a problem for you...but I can't say the same.

Just out of curiousity, which LCD are you using? Model? Brand? I'm curious...

Well its a Dell brand. There is most certainly no ghosting. I can look as fast as i like. Bu ghosting i am assuming the image isnt fully accurate and there's like a lag in some pixels updating in time.

What's the actual model, though. I have used several Dell LCDs (some very recent ones included) and ALL of them have ghosting. It varies per LCD, but it remains in every situation.

Yeah, how dare they shorten the word to three letters...how dare they.
How about the oft-used JPN, dipstick.

"Jap" became associated as a racial slur during WWII. It was used as a hateful word, like "chink" or "nigger". Doesn't matter how you intend it, just how other people might interpret it.

Well whatever make it is. It certainly has awesome response times. :D I read up on google. They just say get the fastest response time and you shouldnt see ghosting. New LCD's rawk.

No, they don't. The response times are still not fast enough and certainly not up to CRT levels. Like I said, they are getting MUCH better and many people are unable to detect such problems, but as I am a framerate whore...those things are EXTREMELY noticible to me. I have no choice but to stick with CRTs for gaming...

Let's put it this way, there is virtually no chance of your LCD having faster than 12ms response time. Samsung has a new 8ms LCD on the way this month (have to check that one out), but the 12ms displays that I've used still ghost (though to a MUCH lesser degree than before). It's still enough to bother me. Am I being picky? Hell yes I am, but I refuse to give up the features of a CRT in trade for so many flaws (poor black levels, ghosting, and fixed resolution are the main issues I have).

You can't beat an LCD for contrast and crisp text, I'd argue. :) I can't go back to a CRT because I get headaches from CRT refresh rates less than 85 Hz, and programming for any length of time on them makes my eyes bleed.

dark10x, have you tried the Dell 2001FP and Dell 2005FPW? If so, any impressions?

Anyway, I don't believe that the consumer should accept dead pixels for a relatively low resolution screen such as the PSP, even though they're inevitable from mass production. I can only hope that Sharp will refine the manufacturing process quickly so I can try one of these devices out. :)
