Luckily I was burgled recently and had my entire collection of 2,000 CDs stolen. So that’s a worry off my mind. Thanks burglars!

We're in the market for a large one... to replace the multiple ones we have holding our current almost 400 DVD collection... We've gotta make some time to hit a few stores soon and see what the larger ones look like and what they run.

I have a bunch of those dinky 60-DVD shelves sitting all over my living room, and it's starting to look tacky. Those, plus the surplus stacks and box sets that I can't fit anywhere, and odd-shaped things like Repo Man SE, Disney Treasures boxes, and Akira LE that won't fit on any shelf I can find.

Yeah Exactly, I gotta find a large open shelf one to fit our collection in.

- With a shutter that goes down concealing all the clutter. IMO it looks like clutter.

- 2 of these. Only 1 put together.

And a huge wall unit.

I use a pair of wooden Sauder DVD units. They're five shelves high, each holding about 250 DVDs, and I keep my box sets and odd-sized sets lined up on top.

I'm considering downsizing to one of those compact holders that you just put the discs in, then putting the sleeves in a photo album. That way I can compress one bookcase into a couple shoeboxes.

anyone use something similar and can recommend something?

I was looking for a nice shelving unit that would go well with my oak entertainment center, but didn't see anything I liked in the local furniture stores.

I wound up getting this unit from storeyourmedia.com, and I'm very pleased with the quality of it:

I use the divider things at the top for DVDs, works really well. And then the shelf in the middle as well.

Those crafty Swedes, they certainly know how to make maximum use of space. If I actually had a corner free in my room, I think I'd get that computer desk. Unfortunately one is occupied by my wall shelf, one by the door, one by my bed, and the other by the door. I think I want an octagonal room...

I only assembled the desk the other night, it really is a great space saver. Took like 4 hrs to assemble though. :lol

Currently, the shelf in my small TV stand. It's been shared space with GameCube games for awhile, but not it appears that the DVDs are taking over, and more GameCube games have been relegated down with my cheap ass subwoofer and GameCube itself behind closed doors.

I just grabbed one of the cupboard jobs (Taz's second pick). Love it can't belive I didnt do it sooner. No more dust no more kid and wife leaving DVD's everywhere. When they piss me off I just lock the sucker up. Holds a crap load and was cheap got it at Home Depot for like 110 CDN.

I'm using a 186-DVD metal rack, a 225-DVD wooden rack, and another 300-DVD wooden rack, plus the 80-some-odd DVD storage my TV stand provides, and I have 2 empty shelves among them. I've been repacking my collection into thinpacks to increase space-I have at least another 200 to recase sometime in my life.

Im liking that Botz stuff. I Might be able to get by with something like this for a while. Thanks for the help.

actually I might get one like Tazznum posted. I like the idea of being able to close it up.

Hah, yeah, assembling the entertainment center I bought from Ikea was a battle of missing parts (they give you the EXACT fucking amount of screws, etc, no leeway), profanity, and beatings. Also, I put part of it together upside down. But you can't notice it, it seems to be together well, and it looks great.

Holy shit are you serious folder? I'm sorry to hear that man :( 2000? Fuck! That's among the biggest collection of DVDs documented by any owner I've heard of.

Damn man....I did you at least have them backed up on a server or something?

Anyway I only own about a couple hundred and use the black plastic ones from Laserline. I plan on owning a shitload of films this year but I think I'm gonna start backing them up to HD, take out the DVD inserts, put them in a big binder and just throw away the cases. What do you guys think?

I'm considered a freak amongst my mates for owning about 40 movies/sets. On this forum I guess I'm just a casual DVD buyer (weirdoes).

haha I have that one too. :p

I made one mistake in assembly. I nailed the grey/white board on the back on the wrong side so the colored side is facing the wall while the other one is towards the inside. I have it filled up with DVDs and lots of junk so it's not noticeable now.

A little over 9 feet of wall space + a little over 9 feet of shelving boards, + a few shelving L brackets = big shelve.

Unfourtinatly it is sharing the shelve space with my PS2, GCN and XBox games, and it's just recantly become full, holding perfectaly evrything on it, but now 6 of the last DVD's I bought dont have a spot, time to build a new shelve I suspose.

Hah, while I installed that part facing the right way, I also installed it upside down. I just whipped out the ole' 3-inch hole saw and made another cable hole, which worked out well anyways considering all the electronics and cables shoved in there.

Erm, sorry to resurrect this thread, but I wanted to know the name of that Ikea entertainment center. I might need something like that for my new room. :lol

And assembling Ikea stuff isn't fun, there were these two similar erm, let's call them "things", but one was taller than the other, not realising there were different sizes I nailed one that was too big for the hole in and cracked the wood. Luckily it's on the underside of the table so isn't visible. I was pretty pissed at my stupidity afterwards though. I'm usually careful and lay out all the pieces etc.
