I need to get back into this game, it's because of lack of time and commitments.

Lord of the Fallen 2023. I got it a few months after release as a Xmas gift. Sat on it until about two months ago. I'm playing it in small spurts and I'm just not dying to finish it.

This team has tried so many times now to emulate the Souls series, between Lords 2015(?), the Surge 1 and 2, and now Lords 2023 and I've played every one and, I don't know, man, they just haven't nailed it yet. They're all missing something that many other Souls-likes have managed to hit.

DOOM TDA is my current hyperfixation, and I'll likely complete this one, but as of lately I have had trouble sticking to one single-player game for too long just because I lose interest fairly quickly (dont grt me wrong, loved the oblivion remaster but it just made me want to play skyrim more, and so i ended up switching. Then dropping that playthrough as well)

This id part of the reason why I prefer co-op centric or multiplayer games (games like the souls-like, halo, phasmophobia, fortnite, etc) because of the added dynamic of playing with friends.

As for the reason? Couldnt tell you, could be my age or my AuDHD acting up. Probably both.

This is how it goes:
Wow Elden Ring is the best game ever!! But it's huge. Let me finish these 2 smaller games first so they don't pile up.

Then before I know it, I have Elden Ring and Zelda totk and Baldur's gate 3 and soon Death Stranding 2....

And I'm really picky too.

Those with a backlog of hundreds of games... really don't bother. Just flag the top 20 and fuck the rest.

I keep my backlog very low. If I don't complete a game, it's because it's just too difficult and I find myself being frustrated more than having fun or it's just not a good game. My most recent unfinished game falls into that latter side, Ultros. It's that ridiculously colorful metroidvania, that's actually a roguelike, with really rough combat. Feels like it should have been good, but it really wasn't.

Perfect Dark (final stage) and Conker Reload (jet race). These "developers" simply can't make games.

Blazing Chrome. Gave up at 4th or 5th stage. Too hard. I'm not going to waste the rest of my life on feeding the developer's ego.

Subnautica. After 40 hours of exploration and collecting the game demanded another 10 hours of material collection for the most advanced underwater suit. I need gameplay, not collecting.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (41 Hours in)

After been away for 2 weeks, I got back at the weekend and i have just no interest in picking it back up ..
In fact I'm just not in a gaming mood at the moment, must be the weather ....

First time playing all of them:

1. The Witcher 3 (~55 hours) - I played until the story sent me to Kaer Morhen. I put it aside in December because playing in DX12 with RT i keep getting crashed every 5 minutes and without RT i dont feel like play it.
2. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1 (~41 hours) - I played it until the second one come, saw the big improvement of the sequel and kind lost the drive to finish it
3. Satisfactory (over 300 hours) - I build and rebuild my factories until i burned out. Reached phase 4
4. FF7: Rebirth (62 hours) - I am a completionist and like to clean out the maps, but this game is absurd
5. Clair Obscur (38 hours) - this is the main game right now, i am near the end of Act 2.

I was a trophy hunter for a long time and not going back to games because I had the trophies. Lately, I got married and just dont have the time for unknown games.

I have been replaying games I enjoyed. Like XCOM 2, BG3, and a few others. I am now scouring my played games for just some fun without having to use my brain to the fullest, and can pick up and drop off on a whim.

Black Myth Wukong, for a game with a monkey there is not much trees. All I see is rocks, rocks and some more rocks. I got bored and stopped playing in the 3rd chapter, with a huge rotating statue in the middle.

Cuphead.

I admit defeat. Gave up on the sunflower boss, which isnt even far into the game. I could had cheesed through the game as I think it has an easy mode. But didnt bother.

I gave it up, because the stage selection is confusing as hell. A bunch of random missions all over the map... Why didn't they make normal linear missions?

Lots of for different reasons:
- Too long like RDR2 or Phantom Pain
- Too boring like most cinematics
- Too difficult like anything Souls or Super Meat Boy

I'm trying to start Clair Obscura but it feels so much like a final fantasy that I don't know if i want to play it.
I've only played the first 30 min so far.

Also need to start Bauldurs Gate 3. Got it installed and just can't get motivated to start such a ginormous game.

Same vibes here. 20+ hrs on BG3 on PS5, it's too slow for me, too deep. I already had 40hrs on PC...

Aaaand I also happily bought Clair Obscure but it's not clicking with me.

Instead I've been playing the THPS remakes again, and some Balatro.

I think I'm just not in the right mood for these slow, lengthy, deep, videogame experiences.

I should add that I'm waiting for my new gaming PC to arrive, so I can mess around in Repo, Nightreign and Arc Raiders.

TotK. Loved it and was playing like a completionist, but I had to stop the summer it came out due to eye issues and the school year spinning up. With the health stuff all sorted, I'm just waiting on the current school year to wind down and that sweet "free" Switch 2 upgrade to dive back in.

What does "unfinished" mean nowadays, anyway?
When I read the title, I thought you are talking about games that needed to be patched.

In open world games, I usually play for a while until I finish the main storyline. Then I stop. Did that with Hogwarts and just recently with AC Odyssey. I like to grind some sidequests early on to be a bit overpowered for the main storyline, but after that, I just don´t have the nerve to continue.

Thank god this thread popped up because I was thinking about making a similar one. Suddenly this year went full force with great release after great release. Ever since Oblivion dropped I've been drowning in good games and they aren't stopping. Fucking MindsEye comes out in three weeks and then Death Stranding 2.

Like others have said, I'm in a gaming slump at the moment. I haven't played anything in months.

Here are some of the games I've bought but don't feel like playing:

- Stellar Blade. It sure looks good, but I haven't felt interested in continuing. I'm not sure why, really. I'll try again sometime.
- Atomfall. The setup grabbed me initially, but I haven't felt the desire to follow through and continue.
- Horizon ZD remastered. The graphics are improved, but I don't think I'm up for another run. I've already been through the game two or three times.
- Mass Effect legendary edition. Tried several times, but it just doesn't grab me like it used to. It also feels like a big time commitment, and I'm not up for that right now.
- Yakuza 3 and 4. I bought them on a recent Yakuza binge, but I overdid it. I'm Yakuza'd out for the time being. I'll probably play them eventually.

I have a couple dozen games that I bought, tried, and didn't like. I don't really consider those "unfinished," though, since I have no intention of playing them.
