In the past and in some modern cultures yes, but for most western cultures it's a milestone rather than an indication if this girl is worthy of marriage. "Going to the next level."
 
Lesbians seem to be getting a raw deal.

I mean for a straight couple its penetration and for a gay couple its penetration but for a lesbian couple its oral, if oral is loosing your virginity for lesbians it should be for everyone.

I see it two ways.

Oral is losing your virginity
Lesbians who have never had sexual penetration are virgins.

Id say any form of sexual stimulation that involves genitalia to the point of receiving a not self induced orgasm qualify's a loss of virginity

To me, this is a very similar question to the "how can you have gay sex but not be gay?" thread. Rely on your own definitions and keep your nose out of everyone else's business.
 
As long as the other person sexually gratifies you it hardly matters. For most people it is important only because society says boys should lose it immediately and girs should hold it for true love/marriage.

We all love a good orgasm. So whatever.

Hymens can break during nonsexual activities, a woman can break her own hymen, some women are born without hymens. The hymen myth is just that.

So, in the end, depending on who you are/sexual preference, you can 'lose your virginity' with anything involving your privates, with someone else's privates.

I think virginity is more of a mental state than a physical one anyway.

For a straight dude, you definitely know when you've lost it. I'd assume it's the same for all other groups.

From a technical standpoint? Yes.. still virgins.

You could have 1,000 hours of intense foreplay including ejaculation and still "technically" be a virgin.. or you could be a guy, who 2 pump chumped one girl in the dark. and had zero other sexual interactions, and not "technically" be a virgin.

So it's sort of a pointless designation in some ways.. unless.. you don't want it to be, then you are probably better off sticking to the "technical" definition, if you are straight at least. In communicating with someone else describing yourself as a non-virgin has a particular meaning.. my "contextual" point had more to do with the idea that homosexuals who don't engage in heterosexual sex will never "technically" not be virgins.. so the word becomes meaningless, or subjective.. so why not make it be subjective for straight people as well at that point?

What technical standpoint. There is none. It's a made up concept that doesn't even have roots in medicine.

I think it's because straight people like myself are lead to believe that it's supposed to be this life-changing magical experience that will make you a man/woman rather than what it really is:

Assuming it doesn't completely suck, there is usually a significant change in your mental state before and after. You feel like you understand certain things better. That's how it was for me anyway.

My first time was pretty good thanks, i was well informed knew what i was doing and had a good time it lasted long enough everything went well.

I didnt feel different after really but still my first time wasnt terrible.

You can refer to eating a burrito as virginity if you choose, but these words do serve a purpose in communication.

Yeah, if you are trying to communicate your "status of ever having heterosexual sex", claiming you lost your virginity when you haven't penetrated a vagina, or had your vagina penetrated is going to confuse people.

So again, from an objective there is only really one original definition of the word.. I just see no problem with this word being used subjectively on occasion. And in general, the word, even objectively, is now considered to apply to multiple forms of sex, in context with your sexuality.

I wasn't uninformed, it was just that awkward sex. We actually had sex a few more times that day, and things did get progressively better, but yeah it didn't make me a man or a woman.
